So I finally had my hair and makeup trial yesterday. It was more about playing around with makeup colors and getting a feel for different hair options. Keep that in mind when looking at the results—the look will be much more polished on the big day!
For the makeup, I told Lauren that I just wanted a very natural look, with fresh glowy cheeks (courtesy of Miss Cowboy Boot) and neutral lips. Lauren tried two different eye colors: a pop of green on one and a neutral gold/brown on the other.

This photo is before she did the lips. Also, please try to ignore the crazy curlers and clips!
The brown/gold is the eye on the left and the green is the one on the right. Instead of the powder blush she used, she’ll be using a cream blush for a dewier look on the big day.
I liked the brown/gold option WAY better, so we’re going to go with that on the day of. Lauren said she’d been wanting to buy this gold Nars eyeshadow for a while, so she’ll be picking that up to use on me as well. She’ll also be adding a few of the individual false lashes and mascara so my eyes pop more.
Now, on to the hair.
Lauren tried out a technique on me called “sewing.” Instead of using a bunch of bobby pins, she sewed my entire updo, and she even sewed the bangs back! I absolutely loved how the front of the hair looked with the bangs back–a little touch of boho without even braiding anything! Lauren said the woman who taught her this referred to it as a “rich hippie” look. He he.
As Lauren was working her magic, two of the other stylists at the salon came over to ooh and aah at her technique–they were just as impressed as I was!
Here’s the side view:
Seriously, not one bobby pin. Magic, right?
And now for the back.

Overall, I want the actual wedding day look to be more messy and have lots more volume on top and in the back, like in my inspiration picture.
I know Lauren can take me there: we really just ran out of time during the trial.
I’m still debating whether to have my bangs sewn back or if I should keep them down. Lauren can easily create the look above with lots of volume and texture but keeping the bangs smooth down in front. (Of course, we’d trim them up a tad first.)
The dilemma is that while I love love love the twisty, boho look with the bangs sewn back, I also love my bangs. I feel so torn! I’m thinking it’s going to have to be a game-time decision.
Let me just leave you ladies with some tips for a successful beauty trial:
Good luck!
