About Mrs. Bruschetta

Aisle Fleet

August 20th, 2009 @ 2:07 pm by Mrs. Bruschetta

- collective noun
a wedding processional/recessional comprised of many people — including a combination of bridal party and family members — with specific roles in the ceremony

Grabbing an aisle seat gives you the best view of the aisle fleet during the processional and recessional.

(You know I think turtles are the cutest –
but they’re really not as slow as everyone thinks!)

Yes, I have a tiny family. And yes, our wedding party is small-to-medium-ish. But our processional? That bad boy’s gonna be pretty big!

As part of our Nuptial Mass, we’re required to have processional that includes all the liturgical ministers. So, initially, our wedding processional will look and feel very much like a “normal” mass. We’ve designated family members to serve as Cross and Bible Bearers, and our readers and eucharistic minister will join in as well.

After our presider processes down the aisle, the more “conventional” wedding procession will begin. First, the three bridal attendants will walk individually to the front of the church. Next, each bridesmaid will be escorted by a groomsman. (We’re honoring our oldest friendships by ordering these three pairs from the duo we became close to most recently to the friends we’ve known the longest.) My sister and Mr. Bruschetta’s brother — MOH and Best Man, respectively — will come next.

Where’s Mr. Bruschetta, you might wonder? Well, our church believes that since the bride and groom are actually the ministers of the liturgy — and the priest is simply a witness — he, like every other minister, must make his way down the aisle. My groom will be next in line, escorting his mother to her seat. And Mama Bruschetta will follow, on BIL Bruschetta’s arm.

Then (finally!) Daddy Bruschetta and I will enter the church. Throughout this entire processional, our organist will be playing the same piece — the Prince of Denmark’s March — but when the double doors open immediately prior to my entrance, he’ll “pull out all the stops”, elevating the music to a full, rich fortissimo.

Our rehearsal’s going to be very important, as we have so many moving parts to keep straight! (And especially since we’re not exactly sure yet how the recessional should be organized.)

How are you organizing your processional? To what song will you walk down the aisle?

Wow, that’s a lot of processional to orchestrate! Ours won’t be nearly as long, but Mr. DD and I still need to come to an agreement on who goes where…

That sounds like a really awesome processional! I’m still trying to figure out how to do ours. We have 3 groomsmen and 4 bridesmaids. I don’t know how to make that not look wonky. :p

I started talking about music to walk down the aisle to yesterday and my FI got all worried and wanted to know what was wrong with “that normal song”. Then he tried to hum it and sounded more like Star Wars……..

sounds like that is going to be quite the processional! we have a pretty large bridal party, so we’re still trying to workout all those details, but we have a while to figure it all out.

OH I love that song! With the organ that will be amazing :) I have no idea what I’m going to use. I’ve thought about traditional and then I’ve thought about something else entirely. ::sigh:: What about your recessional song?

Your entrance will be AMAZING! Whenever I hear that song, I totally think of big, beautiful weddings in over-the-top cathedrals. Gorgeous!

Our processional was very similar (also Catholic), and our recessional went by our priests guidelines of last in, first out. So bride/groom, fg/rb, moh/bm then the maids and men, and then parents

I’ve always loved that song! The entire bridal party will be walking to Kisses and Cake by John Powell and I’ll be coming in right as it swells at the end.. I wish I could find it on youtube! :(

Though we haven’t 100% decided (as there may be an issue with timing), I’m planning on walking down the aisle to the theme song from the movie Love Actually (It’s the song All You Need is Love, it just sounds different). It’s very beautiful and acapella. It’s a pretty long song and right now we aren’t sure if everyone will walk down the aisle to this or if only I will—-my aisle is pretty long.

Oh my goodness! That sounds like a lot of people to keep straight! We aren’t sure yet what I’ll be walking down the aisle to. We are sure it will be accoustic guitar. Right now we are either going with “Sweet Pea” by Amos Lee or “Stand by Me” by Ben E. King. Either way they’ll both be part of the ceremony. The other will be used while we do the sand ceremony.

Holy moly, that is a very involved processional! Good luck with rehearsing it…that sounds like quite an event to coordinate!
