Playlists, Playlists Part 2

August 20th, 2009 @ 11:08 am by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

My last post gave you a preliminary look at our wedding playlist–from cocktail hour, to dinner, to breaks between band sets, and to our dance party. I combed through the suggestions all of you mentioned and surfed the ’net a little more and definitely came across a few winners. By my drive home from work, I had to turn the radio off; I’d listened to so many songs on YouTube by then.

In case you were wondering which of your suggestions made the cut (or if you’re just wanting some inspiration for your own playlist), here are our additions to the music of the night (yes, that’s a Phantom of the Opera reference)…

Cocktail Hour

Dinner

Band Breaks

Dance Party

We’re still short in our dinner playlist as well as our dance party. And we want to groove for that last hour of our reception. Give us your suggestions!

So how does this work for iPod? Are you going to download all of the songs from iTunes? We need a playlist for band breaks too, and I was wondering the best way to go about it.

I’m really glad Iron Horse worked out for you.

For the dance party, have you thought about using some pre-made mixes? I know theflashdance.com sometimes has downloads available. The latest one is about 15 minutes long.

@Lauren: Hi Lauren! Yes, I’ve downloaded about half from iTunes yesterday. I then created Playlists on my iPod and sorted the songs into their appropriate playlists (Band Breaks, Dinner, Cocktail Hour, and Dance Party). I’m considering putting the iPod on shuffle within each respective playlist to keep it fun for me too!

The ironic thing is that after I downloaded about 30 songs from itunes yesterday, I found a $25 gift card in my wallet! Guess I have money for all the songs I skipped over yesterday after all!

Great additions! Glad Say Hey made the cut. I think it’s hard to resist dancing when that song comes on!

So excited to see Josh Radin, James Morrison, Jack Johnson, John Mayer, Rosi Golan, Amos Lee and Spoon on your playlist! My hubby and I put a lot of time and thought into our list, just like you are, and it did not go unnnoticed. I was surprised and flattered by the number of people who raved about our playlist. It goes to show you that people really do appreciate listening to a thoughtfully put-together arrangement of tunes.

“September” by Earth, Wind and Fire really got our crowd of all ages moving on the dance floor! So did Jet’s “Are You Going to be My Girl.” Seems like both of those songs fit your style.

Glad to see much of my playlist on there!

Apparently Que Onde Guero by Beck was a big hit at our wedding, along with Paper Plane by MIA, Jai Ho, and Miss Fat Booty by Mos Def, Brian Setzer- Jump Jive and Wail, MGMT- Electric Feel and the Gourds version of Gin and Juice.

Also someone actually came back to the wedding after leaving because he heard Fat Boy Slim- Praise You start playing.

We were really happy with our music!

Love your play list! I think your guests will have a great time listening and dancing to your selections. Saw some songs that we had at our wedding: 1st dance “Strawberry Swing,” “Kids,” “First Day of My Life” (included in our wedding slide show), Gypsy Kings, etc. For our last dance, we danced to “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane, and everyone cleared the floor for just the two of us. “Don’t Get Me Wrong” by the Pretenders is great song, everyone swarmed to the dance floor.

Hi there! Love your playlist! I just wanted to post a different version of “It ain’t me babe”. I like the Johnny Cash version, but I LOVE the Jesse Cook version — he’s a Canadian guitarist who plays a lot of latin type songs. Anyhow, hope you like it! I’ll be playing it at my wedding!

Great playlist! I’m definately going to reference this post when I’m doing mine.

How about some old school MJ for your dance party? “Don’t Stop til You Get Enough” or “PYT?”

I don’t understand… how is your dance only an hour long? Shouldn’t it be longer? What time is your dinner starting at?

I think you need more oldies. Neil Diamond, Journey, The Beatles, etc. Gotta play some stuff to get everyone dancing - not just the young people!

Glad to see Adele made it she is amazing..I would suggest Kings of Leon too as they have some really great and wonderful songs. Also good are: The Raconteurs ( Jack White from the White Stripes side group), Ben Harper, Blackmores Night, and Volbeat is a great Danish band with a Johnny Cash/Elivs with Pearl Jam feel…….

maybe think of some michael buble for dinner? It has more of that older 30s vibe to it.
