Project: Ring Book!

August 20th, 2009 @ 4:03 pm by Mrs. Sprinkle

For a long while before I was a preschool teacher, I was a nanny! I nannied for a few families over the years, and I still keep in touch with all of them. Our ring child is my former charge. Lil’ Sprinkle is one of the most spectacular, amazing people I have ever met (big or small). He seriously brightens my day whenever I see him.

I really wanted him to have something special to carry down the aisle. I just didn’t think a pillow would cut it, and as much as I love those ring warmer bowls, they seemed a bit fragile for a five year old. I decided the perfect compromise would be a book. A hollowed out book. So I went about hollowing out a book myself and it was a DISASTER! Project: Fail. The piece is so ugly that I can’t even show it to you. I won’t even let myself look at it.

Now I am looking for alternative solutions. I have a few ideas. Perhaps just have him carry a small drawstring pouch. Or a book tied up with string. Or one of these items I already have:

Small paper bag with a gold leaf print? Simple, easy, casual.

A book on lessons? Not exactly…

It is a hollowed out “security book” (meant for hiding valuables and such) that my grandfather once owned. It came into my possession when he passed away several years ago. The book has special meaning to me because it reminds me SO MUCH of him! He was totally quirky and had tons of weird things like this around. So even though a hollow security book is a little cheesy, I still like the idea!

Book-like Frida Kahlo art box. Its the right size but maybe a bit clunky. I love that there is string already inside to tie the rings to.

Mr. S bought this for me years ago, and I have been desperately trying to find a way to display it at the wedding. It’s been siting on my desk throughout the planning process, but I cant seem to find an appropriate place to incorporate it. I could tie the rings to the top, or have them placed inside.

I’m getting a bit anxious at this point. I think I need to call up Lil’ Sprinkle and ask what he wants to carry down the aisle! Maybe he will pick a pillow after all…

Do you have a ring bearer? What will he/she be using to transport the rings?

I have a hollowed out book! I’ve had it since I was little, and used to keep my baby-sitting money in it before I had my own bank account :-)

Looking forward to hearing what you ultimately select!

I would definately talk to him because I know my younger brothers (8 & 10 ) often come up with ideas I would never and they are the best ones.

I love that you’re looking for a creative way to do the ring. I am also not a fan of the pillow and I think your ideas are great!

I like the hollowed out book! Is there a way you could jazz up the cover?

I am using a small silver trinket box I bought while traveling in Cambodia, it’s about the size of a cell phone. It’s sturdy and stays securely closed, to prevent our little guy dumping the rings out. Before I found the box I’m using, I was going to buy a little wooden box at AC Moore and just paint it to match my wedding theme…it’s a personalized and inexpensive idea.

I LOVE the book! I hope you go for that!

Our ring bearer is my fiance’s uncle, and he’ll have a small silver box.

Take the lessons book and cover it. Elementary style. Didn’t you have to cover your books back in the day?? Use some sort of paper that you used on the invites or something sentimental.

Our ringbearer successfully carried the ring pillow down the aisle and he was two. I am sure what ever you decide will be perfect.

i would take the lessons book at cover that. i think that’s just a cool tribute to your grandfather and you could do something creative with the cover to fit your design and style!

I like Mrs. Peep Toe’s idea about overing the book! You could use a a paper bag or butcher paper then stamp your date, names, monogram, a meaningful word like “Promise”… there is so much you could do!

I am using a sock monkey and tying the rings with a ribbon around its neck! It turned out really cute!

we didn’t have a ringbearer, but tied our rings to ‘I Married Adventure’ (a book) that mirrored our love story.

OK, you have to use the hollowed-out security book. So cool! And I love that it is so meaningful to you. Can you use the dia de los muertos thingy as part of your dessert display?

Instead of using a hollowed-out book, why not use a “regular” book, closed, and with ribbon tied around it like a christmas present? it would look similar to a pillow and you could tie the rings to the top. Just a suggestion, but whatever you decide, best of luck!

Oh, the lessons book is pretty great, just tie a sort of tailored bow around it.

The hollowed out book is really awesome! I hadn’t thought about that, and it is such a great idea in lieu of a pillow!
