Color Swatches are Here!

August 21st, 2009 @ 11:06 am by Miss Chick

Thanks to Prisilla at J.Crew, we now have physical fabric swatches!

Here are the online ones:

color swatches

And here they are in physically scanned form. I know all monitors are calibrated differentl,  so I’m not sure exactly how helpful this will be, but it’s better than nothing!

The first option: our bridesmaids can wear any of these colors in any style, like a bouquet of pretty flowers! (I voted against Azalea - it was too purple.) Tea Rose is my personal fave.

swatch 3

Option 2: The bridesmaids wear light pewter dresses in any style, with a flower sash/belt, or perhaps flower fascinators in their hair.

How did you decide on your bridesmaids’ dress colors?

It’s interesting how the tea rose in chiffon is slightly different from the tea rose in cotton cady! But the pewters are very similar.

I wouldn’t have guessed that the tea rose would vary so much between the two different fabrics. It’s helpful to see these together. For my BM, I just had them choose black dresses from JCrew, so I didn’t have to worry about color! ;) I think either of your choices would be really pretty.

I got my bridesmaids dresses from JCrew also. I had four silk chiffon swatches sent to my house too. Although the swatches give you an idea…it’s a completely different idea when you see the styles on a body. I was fortunate enough to have the NYC store near me so I took a few of them and had them try it on. I was set on the spiced wine, but when I got there, I ended up going with the sweet cantaloupe and the tea rose for my maid of honor!! Who knew?! Personally I love the tea rose so I’d go with that but…the light shell was VERY light in person and would probably look good on tanner girls. Good luck!

I love the array of pinks!

I debated a long time between doing grey dresses or pink dresses, but finally decided on pink to keep things bright and fun. I actually just received my sister’s MOH dress last week: a J. Crew cotton cady dress, Lyndsey style, in peppermint. It was much more pink than in person than I thought it was going to be, but it is growing on me. It fits just right and the sash dresses it up quite a bit.

Sidenote: Right after I ordered it for her in Final Sale, they dropped prices an extra 20%. So the dress I got for $69.99 I could have gotten for and extra $15 off. Have you girls check out Final Sale if they know their sizes!

I LOVE the Jcrew dresses and if you catch them on sale they are so much more afordable than typical BM dresses. Unfortunatley -online- I’ve yet to see a shade of red I like. From the swatches you scanned the tea rose in Cotton Cady and Chiffon are pretty close!
Hm. Off to request swatches too!

I love tea rose a lot. How do I request swatches? I’m looking at J Crew dresses but have heard horror stories about ordering green dresses online that come out a very different color. Swatches would be a great fix!

What a beautiful color scheme, I love all the options for the bridesmaids, your wedding party will look stunning!

We chose our bridesmaids colors simply, we picked our favorite color, which is navy blue for both of us. Although, when I see posts liek these it makes me want a more diverse color scheme. The colors you chose compliment each other so well!

Very pretty! What if your maid of honor wore pewter with a sash in one of the pinks, and the rest of your bridesmaids wore all the rest of the pinks like a bouquet?

I love the pewter options, I considered that but ended up with the silk taffeta in brook and let the girls choose which style they wanted…

I prefer the pinks — the pewter looks a little too light in these pictures, and I’d be worried about the girls’ dresses competing with THE dress!

The pewter is pretty, but personally I look terrible in that shade of grey. It picks up every bluish purple vein and drabs down my reddish gold hair. Of course, one of your bridesmaids might feel the same about pink :) Why don’t you ask them what they look best in?

I think the pewter would good as an accent color with the pink - probably one of the darker ones. I agree with charia that not everyone looks good in light gray. Do you have sashes?

I decided to have a dark purple - eggplant - and that the girls could choose a dress they liked in that color. My MOH ended up going with a silvery purple because she fell in love with a dress that didn’t come in a deep purple. Another has an accent color of silver/gray.

I like the pinks as well and think it will look great together!
I got the BM dresses from J. Crew as well and the color was awesome, but just a bit different than what I expected. It’s always good to get swatches!
Also, are the girls going to tell you which dress and color they want? This may be a good idea since you want them to be different and this way you can kind of “control” that :)

I was inspired by my engagement which has a sapphire stone in the center. I knew I wanted my main wedding color to be a dark but royal blue - a sapphire blue. But man, has that been hard to find! After much contemplating, we (my girls and I) decided on the color Marine at David’s Bridal. It’s really the closest thing I could find!

The only thing I knew from the beginning was that I wanted charcoal/pewter BM dresses. Your pewter here is very light. I wanted dark, like a man’s suit. :-) JCrew didn’t have anything grey when I was looking, so we ended up with Belsoie dresses in Platinum. I’m picking them up today! :-)

I think if you have enough BMs, using all shades of pinks is gorgeous. Not everyone may look good in the pewter, but they’d be able to choose a pink that works with their skin tone, of all the options here. Very pretty!

Oooh, peppermint and tea rose are so pretty! Have you considered which fabric you like better? I like the cotton cady the best.

I went against azalea too after I got the swatch for the same reason and choose tea rose instead! It’s so beautiful and all the girls look gorgeous in it…plus they were on sale and very reasonable!

Wedding Colour Schemes

The pewter does look lovely.

I discovered a little trick with Google image search that can help with wedding colours. You can search for something like ‘wedding accessories’ and then use the colour palette on the left to show images that are similar to that particular colour.

@Miss Mouse: I like cotton cady the best too. I have a dress from Jcrew that is cotton cady. The material is really a lot more luxurious than you would think!

I love the different dresses/styles as well! I am going the JCrew route too, but I am only letting them pick from the different styles…I’m keeping the color the same (any dress that comes in Vintage Blue is up for selection). I love that you are going to let them mix and match though, that would make for some pretty pretty pictures!
