DIY Bags for OOT bags

August 21st, 2009 @ 4:44 pm by Mrs. Apple Cider

My dear best friend and bridesmaid Jaime came to visit New York this past weekend, and while I wanted to just hang out with her and eat cupcakes, she reminded me that we had a project to do. We decided to make the bags that will hold hot chocolate and apple cider for the guests. These will go in the guests’ out of town bags. I still haven’t decided what the actual OOT bags will be—they might be apple baskets or gable boxes!

I decided to buy muslin bags because I love the natural look and the cost. I only paid around 25 cents for each bag, and got them from this website.

I had already had the tree stamp made from the image we designed for our invitations.

I decided I needed a stamp that said “enjoy”, and it took searching around 15 websites to find one… but I did. I bought the “enjoy” stamp for around $10 with shipping. I found it at 1-2-3 Stitch.

Once I got the bags (they were 4″x6″) I ironed them… they got a little wrinkled in the mail.

Then we set up our assembly line in the living room. I stamped the tree and Jaime stamped the “enjoy”. I used a piece of cardboard to make sure that the ink didn’t soak through.

(my BFF Jaime!)

I found the hot chocolate online and went with a more expensive kind because I liked the packages. I know that is not good, but I decided to splurge a tiny bit. I decided to get Bellagio hot chocolate from the English Tea Store.

I am not sure about the tag yet, but think we will probably add that, too. Did you do any DIY projects for your OOT bags?

Love these!! The muslin bags are great (and inexpensive!). I’ve been looking for a bag for our OOT bags and we also have a rubber stamp. I may have to be a copy cat.

I love the sweet look! You did a great job! I think I’m going to make similar small bags with sugar cookies or something like that to put in the OOT bags.

These bags are adorable! What kind of ink did you use on the stamp? I’ve read something about one kind that wont dry (!) and I was hoping to do something similar with our birdseed bags.

lovely idea…love the stamping!!

for our oot bags, it was like total diy!!! and actually, it was a lot of fun…our wedding was in maine and nearly all of the guest list traveled from out of state to get there..so i wanted to make sure they had a lot of treats from the great state ‘o’ maine…i made home made spiced blueberry jam, blue berry scones, and chocolate chip cookies…ok the cc cookies aren’t really a maine thing but i thought it would be nice!! there was a bunch of other stuff in there…but they weren’t diy!! i never made jam before and i actually thought it was a pretty easy thing to do!! picking the blue berries was probably the hardest part!! everyone really liked their bags though, so i guess we did good!!

Those are really cute! We did Hershey’s Hot Chocolate wrapped in little Hershey’s disposable cups. I ended up just wrapping them with a band of ribbon since I couldn’t find bags that I liked - but the muslin is really cute and cost effective!
