Mrs. D'orsay's Picture
Mrs. D'orsay, Baltimore/Lancaster UK Age and Occupation: 24, Stay at home fiance (formerly in nonprofit communications) Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Web site developer and designer; co-owner of men's skincare shop Engagement Date: August 10, 2008 Wedding Date: August, 2009 Venue: Oakland Manor About Me: I'm a Maryland raised environmental policy wonk/activist/organizer and communications aficionado. In the past year I've lived in Baltimore, MD, Tucson, AZ, Miami, FL and Lancaster, England. In my not so spare time I enjoy planning trips with Mr. D' Orsay, visiting friends and family and crafting like a mo-fo. I also enjoy modern dance classes, rugby and soccer but have been banned by my mother, MOHs, and Mr. D' Orsay from playing till after the wedding. I have an unnatural addiction to cheese and shoes, but love Mr. D' Orsay more than either and can't wait to become Mrs. D' Orsay!
About Mrs. D'orsay

Yeah… so the story goes like this. While in PaperSource, Mr. D hears a song he wants for the mother/son dance. Yay, finally! So, we’re listening to the song at home and ask my dad for his thoughts. His thoughts? “Isn’t this the song from Midnight Cowboy?” Then, my dad proceeds to fill us in on the movie, which is one about broken dreams, heartbreak, and the sex trade, and this song that apparently plays at the end when his friend dies. Hmmm, not the mental images we were going for. If you’d like a laugh… here’s the video. Mr. D and I like his smooth moves, especially the hand twirl and the “skipping over the ocean” part.

We chose the Beatles In My Life instead.

Does one of your chosen songs remind you of a negative instance in a movie, or in someone else’s life?

Hahaha, yup, the movie comes straight to my mind when I hear this song! I think it plays during the opening credits, as well. Good replacement choice!

I’ve never seen that movie, but I can see why you didn’t choose that song now! ;)

I’d originally thought “Every Breath You Take” would be cute for our father-daughter dance, since it came out the week(ish) I was born…but then I opted for a song without a creepy connotation!

I love the Moulin Rogue version of Your Song, but it was “our song” from a past relationship, so we can’t play it at our wedding (and I have to change the radio whenever any version comes on…)

If Mr. D really wants to use that song, Jimmy Buffett does a pretty decent version.

haha, i saw that movie. the end is pretty sad.

my dad jokes about using “the wanderer” by dion for our song because i used to wander around outside for hours. but the beginning of the song: “Oh well I’m the type of guy who will never settle down”

um, yeah, methinks not, dad.

I didn’t see Midnight Cowboy until I was an adult so for me this song belongs with Forest Gump and I still really like it. However, having seen Midnight Cowboy I wouldn’t play it as that is probably the movie most people place it with. In My Life has always been one of my favorites though so excellent replacement!

Other than the silly video (hand twirling gave me the giggles :) ) and the sad movie. I still like this song. But I guess it being in a movie involving heartbreak, someone dying and the sex trade isnt doing it any favours either. hee hee!

I always laugh when someone’s must-play list includes “Cecilia,” because it’s a song about a girl who sleeps around!

I get up to wash my face
When I come back to bed, someone’s taken my place

Haha, yes. I’ve been to a wedding where the song was the Decemberists “Engine Driver”. Listening to the lyrics, it’s about how the guy can’t “rid” the woman “from his bones”. Fail.

If you haven’t seen midnight cowboy, I recommend it, by the way. It’s not a happy movie, but it’s a good one.

I like this song, and it totally doesn’t have those connotations for me. But it’s weird how songs can be so powerful in that way!

Aw, I’ve seen the movie (in bits, a long time ago) and love this song. I guess I wasn’t watching closely enough to have the same connotations with it? lol

I heart Harry Nilsson–he is like an unsung (excuse the pun) hero. My FIL & husband really got me into him. He also did “Lime in the Coconut” :) It’s a great song-let Mr. D use it.

I love the song “Keep Breathing” by Ingrid Michaelson…and then I keep thinking of the scenes in Grey’s Anatomy when it plays…when Burke leaves Christina on her wedding day…badddd image!
