About Mrs. Labrador

A Buggy Bride

August 23rd, 2009 @ 2:40 pm by Mrs. Labrador

The future in-laws have done it again… they’re getting me a horse and buggy to carry me to and from the ceremony!

When I found out, I was initially thrilled! But then I started thinking that it may be a bit unnecessary. I mean, I could just ride the trolley there and back, right? Why spend extra money when we don’t need to? We’re trying to cut back on frivolous items, not tack them on!

I voiced these concerns to Mr. Lab and his sister, but they weren’t having it. Mr. Lab is a very traditional, Southern-raised lad and I’ve come to realize that like me, he has a few “expectations” of his wedding and future bride.* One of them is the romantic view of his soon-to-be wife riding up in a horse-drawn carriage moments before exchanging vows. He was sold on the idea the moment he heard plans of it. And he’s not budging. Because he rarely requests anything wedding-wise, I’ve decided to let him have this one. Apparently being a buggy bride is no frivolous thing in Mr. Lab’s book!

So for an extra $175, I will be chauffeured in one of these beauties:

The carriage is imported from Austria and decorated for weddings. I actually like the dark colors as opposed to an all-white buggy. They even have the driver dressed to the nines!

My little brother and I will ride together to the ceremony and then Mr. Lab and I will ride away together as husband and wife. I have to admit, riding in the carriage will make me feel like a princess in a fairy tale, so I’m not particularly upset with Mr. Lab’s decision to put his foot down on this. ;)

And don’t worry, we’re still going to get all the great photo ops on the trolley, even though we won’t be riding on it for the actual ceremony procession. :)

*Mr. Lab and I are currently in negotiations over many of his “traditional” views of a wedding. More on this in a post coming soon!

I love the buggy!!! I think it’s awesome that it’s a dark color because then you in all white will really pop!

I feel you on the ‘in negotiations’ about wedding stuff! Its tough to navigate negotiations between yourself, Mom, FI and FMIL!

We did a horse and carriage! While it definitely wasn’t necessary, it was also my husband who insisted lol I was going to cut it because of the cost, but he insisted I have it (simply because I originally wanted it). He said “we’re only getting married once so we might as well do everything we want!” You really will feel like a Princess. It’s amazing! Lots of random people driving past were honking and waving. When little girls saw us, they could only stand there and stare in awe. It was amazing!

I totally understand how you are feeling - but since it is so important to your FI and will make his family feel great, I think you made the right decision to keep the horse and buggy!

That’s totally cute. ;) And for $175, it’s not even *that* frivolous! Although I am suffering from a bit of wedding inflation, right now, in the interest of full disclosure. :)

The buggy is sweet and romantic.. It is a southern things. I think it is cute how Mr. Lab has certain ideas about how certain “traditions” have to be in place. Cute… That was very nice of your FIL

We’re using a BOSS 302, which oddly enough is “tradition” in my family. My other half was okay with it as long as it didn’t cost any extra money- actually, that seems to be his mentality about a lot of things - they’re okay as long as they’re not expensive.

OMG - I would *DIE!* seriously DIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE to ride in this to my wedding and away with my new husband! We’re getting married in (GULP!) 6 more days at a skihill, though, so no horse and buggy for me (I have 2 horses of my own… so I don’t have to go completely without a horse fix, but wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I’m sooooo green-eyed right now Miss Lab - you’ll LOVE it and what incredibly romantic pictures! AWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to you Miss Lab! The buggy is beautiful. Thats so awesome that his parents are doing this for you! And way to go to him for agreeing to keep it! When we first got engaged I called a few buggy places but it was out of our budget because they would have to transport the buggy and horse to our location since it was too far from where they were located! Boo! But Im excited to see pictures of you in the carriage! Yay!

Miss Lab, I am having the same problems with my mister. He can be so surprisingly traditional. I can’y wait to hear how you negotiated it with him.

This is fantastic! Years from now, you won’t remember how much extra it cost - just how great your pictures look. You own’t regret this.

That is amazing! I saw a bride and groom exiting their ceremony in a buggy this weekend and it was just like a fairy tale! And I can’t wait to hear about the ‘negotiations’… my fiance and I are in some of those as well!
