About Mrs. Cloud

I’ll Try Anything Once

August 24th, 2009 @ 12:26 pm by Mrs. Cloud

I have always been the type of gal to be willing to give the latest and greatest beauty products and treatments a whirl. And with our wedding being under three months away, I find myself really looking for any way to put my best self forward for the big day. All of those suggestions you all gave me after my makeup trial for the best facial cleansers? Yeah, I bought them all. So when I saw a friend recently and noticed her eyelashes were looking ridiculously gorgeous, I had to try whatever mascara she was using. But she wasn’t using mascara at all, she had eyelash extensions! I was immediately interested, and even more so when I found out they were waterproof, meaning no streaky black lines down my face at the altar. I’m sure my ugly cry face will be making an appearance, but I can at least try to keep the ugly to a minimum with makeup that stays put.

I booked an appointment with Kendrick of Pandora’s Lashes here in Richmond. She was super nice and explained everything that she was doing and even took a nice little before picture for me.

I think my lashes are pretty long to start with, but they get very light at the end, and they’re not very full. About an hour later I walked out looking like I have naturally long, thick, dark, lashes. I even watched “The Notebook” on DVD that night and after crying like a baby, they still looked perfect. I call that wedding cry-ready!

They are considered semi-permanent because they do fall out as your natural lashes do so a fill is required about every two weeks. I probably lost a few more than I should have in the first few days because I was a little obsessed and couldn’t keep my hands off of them. But I’ve learned to keep my fingers away, and I will still look pretty and full right up until my next appointment.

Are you trying any new beauty treatments just for your wedding?

*All images are from my camera taken by Kendrick, my lash master! And please ignore the fact that I was in desperate need of an eyebrow waxing… I promise this is the last of the close-up images of me sans makeup… yuck.

Do they sew them in? Glue them? How much did it cost? (Can you tell I’m tempted?)

Oh wow! They look great! I also think it helps that you have beautifully large eyes! Really full lashes on eyes (like mine) look not so good.

These look beautiful and very natural.
And no fair dogging yourself for un-waxed eyebrows! No one cares because we probably all have them too! :)

Wow - they look amazing! Personally, I need some help in that department! Thanks for the new info! And if you don’t mind…how much do they cost? They look really nice, so I’m assuming pricey! I would love to find out they aren’t that bad! haha!

I’ve had lash extensions done a few times in the past and love them when they’re first done, but get sick of them over time because they are so delicate! You can’t put mascara on them and have to be super careful when washing your face/showering so you don’t knock them off with the water. And they can dry really tangled if you don’t brush them out and re-arrange them so they’re straight when you do get them wet. Depending where you get them done, they usually cost from about 40-60 dollars (cnd) to get them put on and then 20-30 dollars for a fill, which needs to be done every 1-3 weeks when you first get them done but can be anywhere from 4-8 weeks after you’ve been wearing them for a while.

I wonder how they are for contact lens wearers? I hate mascara. Also how would they hold up to a beach honeymoon.

They draw so much attention to your eyes. I think it adds a great dramatic effect without looking cheesy. I like them. What MissGoodie mention concerns me, though. Your just doing them for the wedding, right?

These make your lashes look great and natural. This seems like the perfect idea as everyone knows the horrors about crying and mascara.

I LOVE lash extensions! My best friend actually owns a company that does them in the OC/Inland Empire area (CA) so I have been a lash “model” for her numerous times. You can do anything in them-swim, laugh, cry- although I wouldn’t rub your eyes because they will rip off (ouch!) it takes a little time getting used to the heaviness of them- but after a while you don’t even notice. Seriously, they are sooo worth the price (in So Cal they run about 150$ for a set and about 60$ for a 2 week fill- 80$ for a 3 week fill- and if you go any longer than that you just need a whole new set.) I got soooo many compliments when I had mine done- and the best part is you NEVER have to wear mascara~ in fact, wearing mascara actually ruins them and makes them all goopy. SOOO worth it!! PM me if anyone is interested in getting them done, my friend is amazing :) (but I’m not biased or anything) lol.

Wow, I didn’t even know that they could do something like that! Talk about adding instant drama to your look! I really like them and like lolo7835, I wonder if you could get your bottoms done too?

I’m sorry ladies I should have given a few more details! They were a bit pricey, I won’t lie (over $100) but I had found a Pandora’s Lashes on facebook a while ago, stated following her and ended up getting them on for 40% off! Then the fills every two weeks are 20$.
I expected them to be pretty high maintenance, but they really aren’t. I do brush them out with a mascara wand (like a tester one that has no mascara on it) in the morning, but it takes only a second. I wash my face normally, I just don’t rub at my eyes the way I did before. But I really only did that to remove mascara, so not a huge deal. If I use liner or heavy eye makeup I just use baby shampoo dabbed on a cotton ball to clean it off (which actually works better then any eye makeup remover I’ve ever used). You can swim with them, I just haven’t tried yet. The friend who referred me is a lifeguard in the summers and she’s had no issues. Hope this helps answer everyone’s questions! Oh, and they don’t hurt at all, they are just glued on one by one!

@Mrs Quiche - nope just the extensions!

I have no idea how lash extensions work!? Can you tell me about them. Are they just fake lashes glued individually to your real eye lashes?? That’s the only thing I can think of….

That’s amazing pricing… In the northeast (ive had them done in Boston & DC) they run ~ $250 to $350 for a full set and then around $85 every 2/3 weeks for a fill. I’ve had them done since February now and I love them but they do get really pricey and time consuming. But nothing beats getting out of the shower with glam lashes every day!

If anyone is in the DC area, i highly recommend Mitzi at http://www.bellaluxe.com

I tried eyelash extensions and kept going back for a few months…but at the end I decided it was too much money. It also didn’t help that my small eyes didn’t emphasize them much. :-( But yours look so much better than mine and the difference is phenomenal - I would definitely keep going with them!
