A Tale of a Hair Trial - Hmmmm… (Part 2)

August 25th, 2009 @ 5:24 pm by Mrs. Swan

Remember how my first hair trial was more of a rough draft?

Well, I went back for a more formal hair trial that would allow me to see how the style would look on my actual wedding date. That meant that my hair needed to be washed, the roots re-twisted, and then styled. (By the way, I am sure that many of you can’t visualize what I am talking about here, so I’ll post more about a typical hair appointment for me another time.) In other words, I needed a full-out hair appointment.

Unfortunately, my formal hair trial was not the visit that I wanted. I don’t really ask for much when I go to the hair salon. I just want someone to do a good job, not make me wait forever, and not have it cost a ton of money that I don’t have. I just wanted to be able to have some time with my stylist to have some discussion with her and to make sure we were both on the same page. The problem with my appointment: she kinda quadruple booked herself for that time period! I know that I was the first person she booked for that time frame because I made my appointment a week earlier, and she was apparently completely free then! The result was way too much waiting and a very distracted stylist who really had no time to talk to me about what we were going to do.

Anyway, I managed to take a pic or two of the front portion of my hair after she was done.

I don’t look so happy here (I REALLY wasn’t happy).

It looks a lot different than the last time, huh?

One top of it all, after some discussion, my stylist thought that the best thing to do was to have me come to the salon the morning of the wedding, when in actuality, it was much easier for both of us to just have her come to the hotel room that morning. Remember, my lovelies, I had a late morning wedding, so everything had to happen early and on schedule. Plus, I was staying in Manhattan very close to the wedding, whereas her salon was in Brooklyn and NOT close to the wedding at all.

To make it all work, we would have needed to be at her salon at 6 AM at the latest. Being the New Yorker that I am, I don’t have a car; finding a taxi that early in the morning is a pain; and getting back into Manhattan for makeup and everything else I needed to do that morning just wasn’t realistic. If I had had an evening wedding, this would not have been a real problem; however, this kind of plan for a late morning wedding with pictures beforehand just was not going to cut it.

So after all of that, I left the salon a bit peeved and stressed out about a week before the wedding.

Stay tuned for how it all went down in the end…

Were the logistics of your hair and/or makeup trials as frustrating as mine?

Logistics are tough! If we get married on the lake where I want to, I’m 50 minutes ONE WAY from the nearest town with a salon. Then I’d have to drive back. I don’t think I have two hours of driving time to spare the day of!

I’m looking forward to seeing how it came out!

the quadruple booking was the main reason why i refused to follow my sister’s rec for a hair stylist. i just don’t hav that kind of time or patience!

Yikes. That makes me feel better with my current stress about makeup. I had intended on booking my future niece’s friend - until she came back with a figure more expensive than the priciest salons around here! And that was supposed to be with the friend discount. So now I feel like I’m back to square one, with the wedding less than 40 days away. Wishfully thinking that she’ll decide to lower the price instead of losing a customer…

Sorry for the troubles! I wish I had some advice, but I’m still in the early stages of figuring out what I’m doing with my makeup and hair. I have no idea!

That’s such a shame… hopefully you got some kind of discount for your hair appointment since she wasn’t able to focus on you during your booked and paid for time!

When it comes to a bride you think the stylist would have paid more attention to you and would have love to do whatever you needed her to do. The salon I go to has Saturday hours but the stylist I want doesnt work on Saturdays! So the next time I go in there I guess I will have to ask her if I can pay her more to come in special for us…at least I know she wont have anyone else there.

I was thinking I should be the last one to get my hair done out of the four of us..two maids and a MOH. Esp because Im wearing my hair down and it tends to frizz up a lil depending on the weather! What do you think?

So sorry you had to go through this! And you’re right - trekking all the way to Brooklyn that early in the morning on the day of your wedding would have me peeved and stressed too. I can’t wait to see what you figured out at the end!

When I got my first hair trial, my stylist gave me total prom hair. I have gads of ringlets, and everyone thinks that if you just put it in a ponytail and leave some pieces around the face that that constitutes a grown-up style. Nope! We didn’t do my hair again until my wedding day, but that time he totally gave me just what I wanted. I hope you got what you wanted too :).

Ugh, that’s so frustrating! I was a bit frustrated at the end of my trial, because I realized that my hair didn’t really look anything like the picture I had brought in. But I still have faith that we’ll get it right on the big day. Can’t wait to hear the next part of your saga!

Seriously, that is so frustrating! The logistical nitty gritty always involves some little inconvenience or annoyance. Now I really want to know how this works out!

I would be overly peeved, for sure! Your hairstylist definitely should have understood! I mean, come on! I’m very interested to find out how it worked out and hope it goes better than what it seems like it may be doing.

Ugh, that’s so frustrating! I was frustrated because the MUA I did a trial with had to cancel at the last minute. I had to DIY my makeup, thankfully it worked out okay!
