About Mrs. Mary Jane

Mr. Mary Jane and I attended a relative’s wedding this past weekend, and one of the events that transpired got me thinking. See, the couple was afraid that their mischievous friends, siblings and cousins would turn their vehicle in to something like this:

They didn’t want their car trashed, so they enlisted their parents’ help in transporting them to and from the ceremony and reception. No one wanted to decorate the parents’ cars, of course. So, what were a bunch of well-meaning pranksters to do?

They T.P.ed and otherwise made their mark on the couple’s house, instead!

Mr. MJ’s 2nd cousin is already a little vandal at the young age of 1!

I was told that “we’re next”, and that they know where we live. So if we don’t provide a vehicle for them to decorate at the picnic, our house will become the target. I fully intend to provide the vehicle; I don’t much feel like picking up a mess at home. But I have one restriction: my parents will be driving one of our vehicles! We must make sure that the “decorating committee” doesn’t do anything obscene to that one!

oh man, haha, that’s awesome. our wedding is almost 2 hours from home and we’re not driving anywhere after the wedding - we’re staying in a cabin at the venue. I guess people may still decorate whatever car we’ll leave in the next day, but I don’t really know/care either way. I personally think it would be fun to drive around with a decorated car (as long as it’s safe and doesn’t damage the car) because when else in your life can you? heh.

I haven’t thought too much about this. I voted whatever happens, happens. It’s one thing I’m not going to stress about!

I hope our car doesn’t get tagged like that. It’ll have to sit in an airport parking lot for a week and I really don’t want people knowing that the car will be there for a good long time since, well, it says we just got married all over it. Smart people would guess at least 7 days…hello, stolen vehicle or broken into vehicle! As for the house, again, just a huge billboard that lets people know you are going to be gone. Not cool with me, but then I work where I deal with police reports all the time. Yes, I guess I’m a party pooper but I think a good sign and some ribbon or something will do flying out the back of the trunk—THAT can be taken down and not need a run through the carwash ;)

Ugh, I hope nothing gross or messy happens. Like I need more stress. :)

When my uncle got married, his groomsmen filled his car with canned sardines and condoms. It smelled TERRIBLE. They were using that as their getaway car, and had to stop at a 24-hour car wash. We spotted them on the way home, stopped, and helped the two clean up the car.

@fiftyfootbride: OMG that is disgusting. That smell could almost be impossible to get out I’d think. I would have been PISSED. That’s going way too far I think :(

OOOO I’d go for auto for sure. Cleanup would require a quick trip to the wash. TP cleanup at the house? Painful!

I don’t think our friends would do that. But it is kinda funny when it’s not your car or house.

Whoa! Never considered the house as an option! I’m still debating on whether to get transportation or not. I was hoping not to just to keep the budget down, but it would be worth not have to clean my car with toothbrush to get everything off of it!

I didn’t think a thing was going to happen, because our best man was driving us in his vehicle. but while we were taking bride and groom portraits two groomsmen went and picked up some streamers and window chalk and did up the car!

Didn’t bother me one bit–we didn’t have to clean up!

My dad’s family did it to the car when my parents married and my mom still talks about how much she hated it. I think if the bride and groom are up for it- go for it, but if they’ve asked you not to just don’t! I’m a little afraid that my dad’s family will be up to their old antics but I’ll be doing everything in my power to stop it!

Yeah, a decorated car sounds a lot easier to clean up than a TP’ed yard!

That picture of the little boy is WAY too cute! I didn’t vote, simply because we already got married and the car being vandalized wasn’t going to be an issue. We had to worry about the honeymoon suite being booby-trapped.
We missed out on that tradition thankfully.

Other family members haven’t been as lucky. My cousin’s wife peed on herself and her wedding dress thanks to a saran-wraped toliet seat. They laugh about it now….

definitely the car if i had to choose. like pengy said, it’s much easier to clean a car!

only 1 wedding i’ve attended had the getaway car decorated. naturally it was decorated by the bridesmaids. and i was one of the ‘maids. lol. good times!

I’ve only seen this happen once, to my cousin so many years back. They put on shaving cream, condoms, and slices of American cheese. Ick.

I kind of like the idea of stringing some cans behind the car, but I’m not sure how to pull that off, logistically.

Now MJ - we need to see what happens!!

Hilarious! My fiance is obsessed with his BRIGHT yellow Pontiac GTO and claims it’s “going into hiding” the MONTH prior to the wedding so nobody can touch it! Not even I’m supposed to know where it is! He’s a bad secret keeper, though :)

Haha that’s too funny! My bridesmaids added their special touch to our getaway car but luckily it wasn’t too bad. I personally think that a car would be better than a house for the easier cleanup.

You know, I hadn’t really thought about someone trashing our house because we’ve hired transportation! Hmmm…I guess since all of our friends and most of our family already know where we live, it’s too late to really worry too much about it.

I would hope that my MOH would help “keep it clean” though…

nah, we did some decor (tradition in my culture), and it is not a norm to ‘trash’ the bridal car.

I hadn’t even thought of this! But I think our car will be there so sure.
