Miss Cherry Pie, Seattle/Polebridge, Montana Age and Occupation: 25, Marketing Communications Specialist Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Nurse Practitioner Engagement Date: August 26, 2006 Wedding Date: September 2008 Blogging Since: April 1, 2008 Venue: A tiny town just outside of Glacier National Park About Me: I think of life as a journey and I love the places it's taking me! I went to school to study Magazine Journalism, ended up with a second major in Japanese language, and now work at a company that makes software for libraries. I love writing, computers, photography, and the great outdoors. I spend most of my time playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band or geeking out online with Mr. Cherry Pie. About Mrs. Cherry Pie

Hellooooo ladies! I’ve been a BAD BEE. You’ve not seen hide nor hair of me since my final recap and I have NOT shared with you the photos from our Zihuatanejo honeymoon or any information about it. Well, next weekend is our one-year anniversary and I think it just might be time to relive said honeymoon with all of you wonderful readers.

Recently, I discovered a Seattle charity event for brides that touched my heart and seemed like it would be genuinely useful to the Weddingbee community. I’m sharing with you because it’s for a great cause, and because good deals on high-end wedding goodies might be just what you need!

Here are the deets:

WHO: Well, that’d be you, of course. And other brides-to-be, or anyone who likes a party, really… the goodies up-for-grabs aren’t just limited to wedding or pre-wedding services! Oh! And I’ll be there, too.

WHAT: It’s called Get Hitched, Give Hope, and it’s a one-night event to raise money for Brides Against Breast Cancer & The Making Memories Foundation by offering, at auction and through raffles, fabulous deals on wedding goods and services.

There’s food and drink. Live music, and a chance to meet a lot of great area vendors and ask them all the planning questions you have.

WHEN: The evening of October 29th. A little pre-Halloween fun.

WHERE: The Dome Room of the Arctic Club Hotel in downtown Seattle. (I hear this is also a sweet wedding venue, but I haven’t been there myself.)

WHY: I don’t really need to write anything because GHGH made this sweet graphic telling everyone why they should come to the party…

In case you can’t see the pic or need more reasons, you should come to GHGH because as a Weddingbee reader, I know you’ll jump at the chance to get good deals on things you need (or don’t yet know you need) for your wedding. Featured vendors whose services are up-for-grabs include planners, photographers, floral designers, invitation designers, musicians… wedding fashion, décor, videography, and more.

Obviously, you should also come party because you like to have fun & socialize.

But the BEST reason to is attend because all proceeds raised are to grant wishes for Stage IV breast cancer patients and their families. After spending thousands on treatment, being gifted one last trip together to say goodbye can mean so much.

Last year, GHGH raised over $30,000 for the Making Memories Foundation. This year, the goal is to raise an ambitious $50,000 to grant wishes to 12 cancer patients and their families.

If you need any more convincing, here’s the meat of it: One in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer. And so will a lot of men. That’s… scary, to say the least. We’re making a lot of good progress in research for prevention and treatment, but we shouldn’t forget about the many who are suffering.

HOW: Buy your tickets online. Entry is only $25, or you can spend more for a swag-filled goodie bag. (They promise it will have actual goodies in it!)

Full details about this year’s event haven’t yet been posted, but you can see a recap of last year’s inaugural GHGH on their site and keep up with new announcements on the GHGH blog.

I’m really excited to have learned about Get Hitched, Give Hope, and I can’t wait to attend. I hope to see some of you there! (PM me if you’re going, so we can meet up.)

I know this isn’t the only awesome bridal charity event out there. So tell me, what has the wedding industry got going for a good cause in your city?

That sounds like such a great event! Too bad I’m East Coast. 1 in 8 is a scary statistic.

Whats even more staggering is that 1 in 3 people will have some form of cancer in their lifetime. 1 in 3. Ridiculous.

On a lighter note, I cannot wait to see your honeymoon recaps!! I’ve been waiting a year for them!!

Good to see you around the hive again! Is that a new profile pic? It made me smile! Thanks for the info, if I was West Coast, I’d be there!

wish I was closer … my hair dresser was just diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer. I would love to do something like this to honor her and the other women in my life that have battled breast cancer.

PLEASE NOTE that the brides against breast cancer gown sale travels around the country, so they may come to your area. Go to bridesagainstbreastcancer.org to see where it’s going to be. I bought my dress from Brides Against Breast Cancer when they were in IL. It wasn’t a big event like this though- it was free to get in, and you didn’t get any swag, but that’s not why we were there! My grandmother died of, and my mother survived breast cancer, and it’s one of my favorite charities. I got a GORGEOUS dress that I never would have thought to try on if I had been in a store, it cost a bit less than it does from David’s bridal, but it is already set up to be bustled (bonus), and it barely needs to be altered. The best part was that all the money went to women who are suffering from Breast Cancer. That means more to me than my money going to some overpriced, greedy bridal salon. It was so much fun, and everyone that volunteered there is so nice. We are donating a dress (from a previous engagement), and next year after our wedding we will donate this one.

best wishes!

I might just go to this. I lost my mother to breast cancer and even before she was diagnosed, it was for some reason my biggest fear. I’ll def be donating my dress to these people too after the wedding.

I’ve had someone close to me pass away from breast cancer, so I’m always touched by breast cancer awareness events and charities. Thanks for posting this!

Wow!! Thank you Kat for your fabulous post!! And thank you to all the gals who posted comments - just so you know, the Making Memories Foundation is a national one, they grant wishes ALL over the states. (we just raise money for them!) So if you have a loved one with a stage 4 diagnosis - tell the making memories foundation and I’m sure they will do all they can to help!! http://www.makingmemories.org

I was going to suggest Brides Against Breast Cancer, but aloha beat me to the punch. I’ll have to forward this to some friends in Seattle, it’s too good of a cause to not spread the word!

I wish I lived in Seattle! I went to the Brides Against Breast Cancer event in KC, but didn’t find a dress there, so we’ll be doing favors similar to Mrs. Taffy’s and one of the charities will be Brides Against Breast Cancer. I lost my grandma to breast cancer so I knew I wanted to support this charity in some way!

I’ve had 3 friends buy their wedding dresses from Brides Against Breast Cancer. Going to these events has always been the best dress shopping experiences for each of them. It’s a great cause, and your purchase is tax deductible. How can you beat that?

Brides Against Breast Cancer IS a fabulous charity!! Those gown sales are GREAT fundraisers for the Making Memories Foundation - Get Hitched Give Hope is a little different. You get to hire all of your other vendors!! (your planner, invitation maker, florist, photographer, DJ, officiant, jewelry) PLUS you get to be all dolled up at a swanky cocktail party at a RAD venue!!

I think I’ll go and bring my friend who is also planning a wedding next year! My family is BRCA 1 positive (I am not) so this cause is very important to me!
