About Mrs. Espresso

Future brides—I must tell you that our wedding rehearsal was when I had the, “Oh my gosh I’m a bride!” moment. Because the guests aren’t there. The music isn’t playing. The fancy dresses aren’t there. But you two are. Your closest family and friends are. And the pastor who is going to marry you is there. It’s almost like you could jump the gun and get it all said and done right there… but then… what would the point of having a rehearsal be? ;)

Okay—so enough with the mushy, sentimental goulash. I’m moving on to my next rehearsal topic… what you be wearing?

What do you picture your wedding party wearing? Does it really matter? In the grand scheme of things—it doesn’t. Not at all. But our bridesmaids and groomsmen were dressed so differently from each other that I thought I’d include it in the post.

You see, the sun was going down and with all the tall trees around, it started to get cold and dark quickly. Our bridesmaids and groomsmen had also been helping to set up throughout the day. So, some dressed for that (which you can totally see that I fully embraced this attire in my pictures), and other dressed more “wedding rehearsally” (word?). Had I remembered that my mom was taking pictures and that they’d be posted all over Weddingbee, then I may have taken a shower and at least put on jeans I actually like. But on the day before our wedding, my mind was EVERYWHERE.

Now, on with the fashion show…

Bridesmaid and Groomsman #7

Groomsman #6 and SIL Espresso

Bridesmaid #5

Bridesmaid #3 and Brother in Law Espresso (I don’t have a picture of Brother Espresso and Bridesmaid #4 for some reason)

Best Man #2 and Sister Espresso

Our Best Man and Maid of Honor… totally dressed opposite of each other, and I love it!

Our adorable flower girl. She was freezing in her cute little outfit, so my Dad (that’s him in the back) went and got her a long sleeved shirt out of his truck.

Mr. Espresso and our Pastor were freezing up at the front. Our Pastor is Australian and I could just listen to him talk for days. He’s also incredibly sweet. He rode his motorcycle up the mountain for our rehearsal, then rode back down, then rode back up the next day for our wedding!

Here’s my dad about to give me away to Mr. Espresso. Okay, now—do you see the first guy on the left side (next to the plaid arm)? That’s my brother. Mr Espresso told me after the wedding that when my brother had asked him what to wear to the rehearsal, Mr. E jokingly said, “Board shorts and flip flops, man.” And look what he showed up in. Gotta love little brothers. :) Oh—and that’s Mr. Espresso’s mom and dad in the front—aren’t they so cute?!

Here’s Mr. Espresso shaking my dad’s hand really hard to prove that he’s qualified to receive me. :)

And just so you can see how big our wedding party was, here we all are together afterwards:

After the rehearsal, we all rushed back to our rooms or cabins, quickly got ready, and went out to our rehearsal dinner at a local cottage restaurant. The food was great, but the company of everyone we loved there was better. I don’t know why we didn’t take a lot of pictures that night—I think we were too busy eating and talking to bother—but here’s one my mom took of me and Mr. Espresso, the night before he became my husband.

Have you even thought about what your party needs to wear to your rehearsal? Or if it even matters? As you can see, it definitely didn’t matter for us. But looking at how some of our wedding party dressed compared to others just made me wonder if there are expectations out there. What do you think?

Because we are having a nice dinner at a restaurant post-rehearsal, I asked my bridal party not to show up in jeans but other than that I don’t really care. Your bridal party looks like a blast, I love that SIL Espresso was rocking shades up the aisle!

I would have showed up in a sweater and jeans if it was that chilly! Your flowers girl is too cute in the over sized shirt.
I didn’t realize your had such a big bridal party.

I asked everyone to dress up a little for the rehearsal because the restaurant where we had the dinner was nice, but it was also a hot day in june! The girls wore dresses, and the guys wore collared shirts and khakis.

I would definitely have been rockin’ the hoodie and jeans if I was outside and it was chilly. We have planned our rehearsal dinner to be a barbeque out on a lake - so I am definitely all for the ‘board shorts and flip flops’ style attire!

That said, a couple of good friends of mine are having/have had rehearsal dinners at downtown steakhouses so I guess I’ll have to wear a dress… boo!

What a fun rehearsal. With bad weather, I would have totally rocked some jeans with a sweater! :) I didn’t check in with folks about their RD wear–everyone dressed about the same level of dressiness.

i never thought you’d needed to dress up for a rehearsal. i showed up in jeans twice and no one batted and eye. then again, i always wear jeans so that really wasn’t a revolutionary move. lol.

At our rehearsal everyone was a little more formal, but we were headed to dinner right afterwards at a nice restaurant. Looove the casual-ness of yours though! :)

I forgot to say how cute you guys look and how dreamy your ceremony space is. Beautious.

Our families are very formal. Our rehearsal is in a cathedral and many of my friends are not religious, so I did include a dress code on our wedding website, as the rehearsal dinner site requires a coat and tie.

I love your pictures though (especially of your brother). If my fiance and I had our way, we’d have an informal rehearsal dinner at our favorite pizza and ping pong place but our mothers said absolutely no way! :)

Actually- we were so busy setting up the wedding site, that we ran out of time to even have a rehearsal!! I would definitely not care what everyone was wearing had we had time to even have one.

We worked up until it was time for the welcome picnic, and also worked the morning of the wedding until it was time to get married.

We had to just wing it- but obviously we still ended up married, so thats ok :)

I don’t think what everyone wears matters at all! Especially when everyone’s outdoors.

I haven’t really even considered what everyone’s going to be wearing. I figured I would be a little dressy, but I really don’t think it matters and would not be upset in the least if everyone showed up in jeans and t-shirts! Its just the rehearsal - tomorrow’s the show!

At every wedding rehearsal I’ve ever been too (including my own!) I wore what-eva! Most wedding rehearsals I have been in have been on work days, so I’m usually coming right from work. Maybe I never thought about it because I dress nicely for work though. At my own rehearsal I was in old ratty jeans, with my hair pinned all unattractively (as in, out of my face while I ran around all day finishing projects) but I totally forgot to give a crap I was just so excited we were on the home stretch!

We told our wedding party to look purty :)

I always hate not knowing my apparel expectations, so I thought I would put it out there to my people.

@TravelBug: oooh. A bbq on the lake sounds delightful!
@PrettyKitty: I feel the exact same way! I can’t stop staring at my gross hair! :)
@Miss Politico: brother Espresso will be happy to hear that ;)
@Mrs. Margarita: *blush* thanks Margarita

Casual is the way to go. My fiance is the biggest Chargers fan ever, we even have a whole room dedicated to the Chargers in our house! For our rehearsal dinner we are having a Chargers themed tailgate! All of our east coast family and friends are asked to wear chargers clothing or colors even iif its not their preferred team.

To be honest, I hadn’t really thought about it until my bridesmaids asked what the atire should be. Several of them have been to the restaurant before, so they know they need to be well-dressed for the dinner portion of the evening. At this point, the girls agreed to wear jeans and a nice t-shirt to help with setting up and organizing at the site, and then we’ll be doing a quick-change in the bathroom before the dinner portion. Go with the punches, right?

I love that there was such diversity in attire…it cracks me up to see the juxtaposition! I hadn’t even thought about needing to inform the bridal party on what to wear to the rehearsal…good point!!!

I think I’m going to have a Black and White themed rehearsal dinner. It doesn’t have to be fancy but I’m all about themes and it’ll be super easy to pull off. :)
