Origami

August 27th, 2009 @ 10:33 am by Miss Chick

Since I have a couple of very talented origami expert friends, I thought I might use their dexterity to my advantage!

What do you guys think of these? Aren’t they cute?

I’m not so big on the beads, but I think these would be lovely just on their own, hanging.

Here’s the tutorial for pink flowers. I really like the ball above. It reminds me of Martha’s chapel. I actually like these better because they seem a bit more sturdy and sophisticated.

Here is Martha’s version:

I think these would be very pretty, floating in the breeze. But I fear they might tear apart with the tissue paper being so thin.

Here’s the tutorial for the green flowers.

You know what the best part about all these is? Lulu (my dexterous friend) already knows how to make them! Hers look even nicer, and she does fancy things like lighting them up.

White would be very wedding-y!

Would you consider using origami as wedding decor? What if it rains and they get wet? Are there any other fears I should be thinking of?

i love them!! structured and fragile at the same time! could you spray them with waterproofing products so it doesn’t get wet? they would make lovely pomanders, and for hanging at the end of aisles. or you could put a whole collection of them in different sizes and colors for centerpieces!

I love the lit up version, like a fancy paper lantern and I agree on the more structured pomador look. I would just go with it and if it raiing, they get wet like everything else. I think they could stand minor showers but if you have an indoor back up plan, you could just move them with everything else. Get your friend(s) on board and do it!

I love those green flowers, they’re sooo pretty. But they take too long for me to make. My FI and I are making origami lillies that we are attaching to branches scavanged from our yard. Its just decoration for the church, but its pretty ^__^

I love idea of origami. Too bad I’m super-clumsy. I’ve tried before and haven’t gotten very far :)

I wish I had an origami friend, that’s a great friend to have! You never know when you’ll need a paper crane! :)
I decided to do a paper ball like the green one as the flower girl’s pom to walk down the aisle with.

Thanks for the other fun paper ideas… I wonder if I can include them…. hmm?

Don’t you love it when you see all the inspiration in the world and try to include it all!! Dang it, I wish I had more time! :)

These are totally cool, I would definitely consider using them as wedding decor, especially for an indoor venue. If you did use them outdoors, what would you hang them from?

Wow! I really love the ones that light up. Can you use some sort of water resistant paper, coated in wax or something?

Those are so rad and beautiful. Radiful if you will! I would want those in my house. I would want those in my office cube. I would want a small one dangling from my rearview mirror. Adorable!

i like the kudusama balls [is that how you spell them? i forget]. i actually made one for my desk and it looks lovely. mayb you can ask your friends if waterproofing is an option if they use origami paper. i know that paper is much more delicate than your run of the mill office paper

OMG love the origami stuff. I’ve done some similar to that, but I didn’t even think about doing it for wedding stuff. I’m folding 1,001 paper cranes for our wedding. I just need to figure out what to do with them! :p

@fiftyfootbride: woo maybe you can do something like what Yoko Ono did:
http://www.a-i-u.net/wishtree2.html
and ask guests to write a message on a crane and then tie them to a tree?

Every wedding I’ve seen that incorporates origami is so incredibly beautiful…! =) Perhaps there’s some kind of waterproof coating you can give the paper? Or maybe just have them inside?

Can you share how your friend incorporates the lighting inside the kusudama ball? Would love to know what her technique is there. Might she have a tutorial you could share? (pretty please? ;))

I love them so much!! Although I think if it rains, you’ll probably have a lot more to worry about than soggy paper! ;)

@lollylolly: Oops, sorry it took me so long to respond to this. So I talked to Lulu about how she did the light. She said for that picture, she just held a bulb inside the origami piece. We need to figure out how to actually do that. I’ll post it if we end up doing this, for sure! Thanks for asking!
