I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. About Mrs. Mouse

Say “Yes” to the Dress(es)

August 27th, 2009 @ 11:59 am by Mrs. Mouse

Over the past several months, I’ve been collecting dresses to wear at all of my various pre-wedding celebrations. I tried them all on yesterday, and it’s a good thing I did! I came across a couple of unexpected issues.

The Shower Dress

Say Yes to the Dress(es) : wedding dress Dscn039

This is the dress that I was hoping to wear to my upcoming wedding shower on Saturday.

I bought it back in March at the White House Black Market outlet. At the time, it was form fitting and very flattering. As you can see, it is now way too loose on top and not flattering at all! I think this dress is definitely out. It’s not special enough to spend the money on taking it to a tailor.

The Mother/Daughter Brunch Dress

Say Yes to the Dress(es) : wedding dress Dscn03901
This is the Anthropologie dress I bought a few weeks ago, after my brother generously gave me a gift certificate for my birthday. I absolutely love it, even though it looks a bit wrinkly here. I’m planning on having a mother/daughter brunch at Sandra Bullock’s restaurant as soon as my FMIL and FSIL get into town before the wedding. I’ll definitely be wearing this dress. But the more I think about it, why can’t this dress do double duty at my shower this weekend?

The Rehearsal Dinner Dress

Say Yes to the Dress(es) : wedding dress Dscn03902
I bought this floaty number at Zara about two months ago. When I tried it on, I realized the top panel was sheer, so I bought an appropriate bra. However, when I tried it on today, I realized the whole dress is pretty much see-through! I definitely can’t wear it out in public like this. I’ll be hitting up some lingerie departments over the next few days to try and find a suitable slip. Good thing I caught this mistake now! I can’t wait to pair this gauzy dress with my black vintage cowboy boots.

The Bachelorette Party Dress

Say Yes to the Dress(es) : wedding dress Dscn040
Thanks to Weddingbee and especially Miss Apple Cider for introducing me to Mod Cloth. I bought this dress there, and I am so in love with it! I can’t wait to wear it to my bachelorette party (only nine days from now)!

OK, so maybe I went a little bit crazy with all of these dresses, but after the wedding I will get tons of wear out of them! Maybe I can even sell the first one.

What’s your favorite place to shop for fancy dresses?

I LOVE the anthropologie dress! It’s super cute and so flattering on you. I definitely think you should do “double duty” with it.

oooh, can I ask you about the sizing of the modcloth dress? I see they still have it online and I really want it! I am about a size 4 usually in dresses, depending on the brand/label. What size did you get? And does it run small/big?

I LOVE the anthro dress! It looks amazing on you, too. I actually almost bought it myself, but it didn’t look as good on me.

I love love love anthropologie and I’m a big fan of this store nearby called Pop Deluxe. I have gone to Charlotte Russe(sp?) and H&M for tons of dresses (especially in College for formals and such …)

@missvintage: I’m a size 2 usually, but am smaller on top so sometimes a 0 if it’s not fitted through the hips. The Mod Cloth dress is a small, and it fits snugly everywhere except the chest. I think it’s pretty much your standard small, but maybe a tiny bit smaller than a store like Gap or Old Navy where they have XS.

I’m a Macy’s girl. I’ve tried to move on to other stores several times, but I always end up back at Macy’s :)
