Wedding Garlands!

August 27th, 2009 @ 4:41 pm by Mrs. Dew Drop

So, yes, Mr. DD and I are exchanging Indian floral garlands at our wedding.

(Although sadly, ours won’t be nearly as exciting as these.)

But that’s not what I’m talking about. For some reason, I keep contemplating garlands like these:

DIY options:

Or ready-made:

I’m not sure they really go with our wedding aesthetic, but I’m seriously contemplating incorporating a garland somewhere in our rehearsal dinner decor. (Well, unless you tell me that garlands are too children’s birthday party-ish. It would probably be best if the decorations didn’t make our guests expect pin the tail on the donkey or clowns…)

How do you feel about garlands? Are any of you planning to put one up at your wedding?

i like garlands, and hanging anythings, what if you make them out of the chinese lanterns or intertwine some crystals and hanging orchids in them?

Garlands do have a bit of that idea of kid’s parties, but its all about how you do them.

I’d go for something like Wendy Addison’s glittered letters - http://www.bayberrycove.com/bowidrga.html

There’s also nothing like overwhelming amounts of crepe paper in lots of colors - like this:

I think they’re sweet! I went ga-ga for garlands a while back. I’d planned on decorating our favor table with these, but lost steam after making about 15 of them. :o)

I plan on having a garland up somewhere at our dinner. I just haven’t decided if I’m going to DIY or buy one somewhere. There are just so many choices!

I think they are adorable. Depending on the overall theme of your wedding they could be awesome. You could always do them in a more formal color scheme as well.

I love that floral garland! I made one for a bridal shower and it turned out really cute. I’d say RDs, showers and the like are the best places for them, but at the right kind of wedding they’d be delicious too!

I really like garlands - floral and lettering! I really want to incorporate a ‘Just Married’ or ‘Love Sweet Love’ or something similar in my wedding, but both my fiance and mother hate the idea. They both feel garlands look too childish and carnival-ish. I think there great and am still actively lobbying and scheming to include one!

It’s your wedding, you can cry, I mean put up garlands, if you want to. I think it’s a lovely idea!

I think they can work, especially if you do them right. I prefer the ’sweet love’ one over the hearts or flowers.

Those are such great inspiration! I love when I see a garland strung across the back of the bride and groom’s chairs at the reception…or in front of their sweetheart table if they have one! I think that is where I’m going to be putting one at my wedding!
