Hair & Makeup: Part 1

August 28th, 2009 @ 6:00 pm by Mrs. Beagle

I’ll warn you ahead of time, this post is filled with lots of pictures of moi. Last Friday, I had my hair/makeup trial. Even though I had plenty of time to prep for this, I went in uncertain of exactly what I wanted. I showed Jeanie my inspiration pictures and after a few minutes of deliberating (and taking in to account factors such as the Texas humidity), I decided to go with an up-do.

Obligatory “before” picture sans makeup and hairstyle:

I washed my hair the night before the trial and learned that I should have washed it the morning before. My hair was still too soft/ not oily enough, which required more hair spray. After an hour and a half of Jeanie working her magic, I headed home to take some pictures of the result.

The back of my hair:

The right side is a little messier because after I looked at it when she had finished, I decided I didn’t want the side areas coming out as much (I would have rather had them go back). The problem I ran into was that I have so much hair, and it’s thick, that this style didn’t seem to look as good on me as it did in my inspiration photos.

The left (pretty) side:

Looking at these pictures now, I like the soft look of it, but I still don’t think it’s the right hairstyle for me.
With the veil:

And now onto the makeup. I didn’t give Jeanie very much direction on the makeup portion of the trial, other than telling her that I don’t wear much of it. I hadn’t found any inspiration pictures to bring her either, so I was a little nervous. Luckily for me, Jeanie is so fabulous she came up with a look that I absolutely loved!!!

With the hair still up:

I ended up taking my hair down about 30 minutes after I came home because the back of my head started hurting, really bad. I’m not sure if was because of the weight of my hair all in one spot or the pins or both, but for this reason alone, I would recommend that everyone get a trial before their actual day so they can be sure it’s going to be comfortable.

Now, more makeup pics:

Close up of the eyes; I love how they turned out:

All the makeup is Aveda. I wish I had a list of all the specific products she used, but at the moment I don’t. I’ll try to get a list for anyone that is interested. Everything except for the lip color stayed on for pretty much the whole day (I had my appointment at 10:30 and took my makeup off around 11). I’m planning on picking up the lip products she used so I can reapply and avoid the dry lip look I’m sporting in the above pictures. :) The only thing I’m going to ask her to do differently is go a little easy on the mascara. I don’t usually like wearing it and she was putting it on before I could say anything. I’m hoping on the actual day of my wedding, I’ll be able to forgo the mascara and just do a little lash curling. Stay tuned for part 2 of my hair trial, soon to come!

Do you have any advice for the hive, if you had a hair or makeup trial? What is your favorite makeup product that you would recommend?

I think your makeup looks lovely as it is! Even though you normally don’t wear mascara it really made your eyes pop in these photos and will on your wedding day as well.

I like your makeup. I think you should stick with the mascara too!

Your hair could use a little work, I agree. My hair looked just like yours in my first trial - too thick and a little messy with the strands. I’m going back for a second trial next weekend and hopefully they can get it right!

You look beautiful! I really like the mascara a lot actually - maybe you would be more comfortable in it if you wore it every day for the week beforehand or something? However, do what you think is best/makes you comfy!

Oh, I say go with the mascara! You might think it looks like too much because you never wear it, but I think it really makes your eyes pop (as French Fry said). I love the hair, but you definitely don’t want your head to hurt an hour into your reception! You look lovely, Miss Beagle!

Love it!! You look so beautiful!! I agree with PP, the mascara looks great, but I love mascara, so I’m probably the wrong person to ask. :)

You look gorgeous!! Mascara and all (but then again, I love mascara). Have you ever thought of doing fake eyelashes - they feel heavy on the eye for the first 5-10 minutes, but then you can’t feel them- and then you don’t really need mascara. (anyway, that’s what I did).

what if you went a little more side bun/pony? I love that look on you.

Your make up is really pretty.

Your make-up looks really nice! Have you ever tried brown or clear mascara? That could work as well.

Your hair trial is nice too. What were your other ideas in mind?

You look beautiful. You don’t even need make up! So I was really pleased to see how incredibly natural the makeup looks on you…even after seven hours!!!! Also, your hair looks really pretty down! (I know that’s probably not an option, but I just wanted to put it out there.)

You look great! I’m anxious to see what you end up going with for hair! I agree i thought what she did to your hair was cute, but a little messy and big! You have gorgeous thick locks, too bad it’s so humid in Tx =(

It looks great, can’t wait to see what you end up doing with your hair.
And I think if the mascara doesn’t actually bother you, you should wear it! Your lashes look gorgeous =]

You should try clear mascara for a more natural look, but it will keep your lashes nice and curled and in place w/o it being as dramatic as black mascara. :)

You look stunning, really really natural and beautiful! Your eyes are sooo pretty, I agree that you should keep the mascara to make them ‘pop’ or even consider false lashes if you don’t like mascara? Not the whole shebang, maybe just a few that are strategically placed.

Gorgeous trial! I am so thankful you tried the updo first…giving me something to consider (pain=not so lovely).

Your makeup looks great! I love the mascara as well…but I may or may not be a little biased :)
I helped with my friend’s hair for her wedding and I think its about the same thickness/fineness as yours. Did she put it in a ponytail before pinning all the curls? That might help so it doesn’t feel so heavy!

I think you look great. Your eyes look so fantastic. I think false lashes might be a little intense considering your light coloring. (Even if it’s just a few).

I like the makeup, but yeah, the hair looks messy and if it hurt then no bueno.

I like the makeup, and think you should have a least a little bit of mascara though. I’ve found that even when I put on just a little bit, it makes a HUGE difference.

Do you have other ideas for the hair. I think the style, if more polished, would look nice, but if it hurts it’s not worth it.

Definitely use some type of mascara. I’ve used the Neutrogena lash tint, which doesn’t bulk up your lashes, it just darkens them and it has worked great, since I have sensitive eyes. If you can stand a full fledged mascara, then use that, but if not try the lash tint.

I think your make-up looks beautiful! It’s perfect for your complexion. How about doing little fake eyelash pieces (not the whole lash) instead of mascara for a really soft but dramatic look? I like the back/side of the updo a lot, but I agree your hair will look beautiful down.

I think the makeup looks awesome. It lasted really well, which is super important on wedding day. I actually like the mascara on you, but if you’re not going to be comfortable you might want to try something else. I like Miss Mouse’s idea of using some fake eyelashes, that might give you the look without the feel of mascara.

i like the make up. it highlights your features while staying very natural and ‘clean’.

how about a high pony tail of cascading curls? that way, the hair’s off your neck, but you still get the ’soft’ look.

Thanks everyone! I think I may play around with some brown mascara (I think that she used black). It was also recommended that I just apply mascara to the tips (as opposed to the whole lash)….I’ll see if I feel a little more comfortable with that.
I think overall it looks really good in pictures. It was just weird looking in the mirror since I’m not used to it.

Your eye make-up looks like it held up super well! If you get a chance to let us know what products she used, I’d love to know :)

I loooove the makeup…the eyes are fabulous!

That stinks that your hair hurt you. :( I somehow have a scalp of steel and could probably jam a million bobby pins into it…I blame dance recitals.
