About Mrs. Powder Puff

Love, Sweet Love: We Toast!

August 28th, 2009 @ 2:28 pm by Mrs. Powder Puff

After the lovey-doveyness of the first dance was out of the way, we opened up the floor to toasts!

My dad kicked things off with a really sweet welcome.

1

And as Mama Powder Puff and all our guests looked on…

2

He pulled out the very first dress he ever bought for me, 26 years ago.

3

Dad went on to say that even though I’m all grown up and wearing the last dress he would ever buy me, my wedding dress, in his heart of hearts I would always be his little girl in the lavender dress.

There was not a dry eye in the building.

4

5

Next up was Andy, the best man. His speech was heavy on the hilarity.

6

7

It ended with the classic, and always classy line, “May all your ups and downs be between the sheets.” Gotta love it!

8

And finally, Sister Powder Puff gave a heartwarming toast that she had been working on for quite some time. It included a story about how when we were younger, we would play Disney princesses. But somehow, I always ended up being the featured princess, and Sister Powder Puff would always have to be some random supporting character. Hey! That’s the perk of being the oldest!

9

But, she said, in the end, she was so happy to stand back and play the supporting role for me on our wedding day.

Let me tell you, tears were streaming down my face. I love my sister!

10

11

After a quick prayer…

12

…it was time to chow down!

During dinner, I requested that a short (and I mean SHORT, just over one minute long!) slideshow be played that I made for Mr. Powder Puff as a surprise.

13

14

15

Wanna see it in action? I’ve included it below. Now, I can’t take credit for this video, since I 100% ripped it off from the video Mrs. Lovebug made back in the day. Yep I’m a big old copy cat. Everything from the song to the title was her idea- but it’s just so cute I couldn’t pass it up! So watch, but know that the credit belongs to the always fabulous Lovebug.

It may have been short in length, but it was long in love and laughs, and was a big hit. Mission accomplished!

Your dad’s toast is choking me up! I can’t believe he saved the first dress he ever bought you, and referred to your wedding dress as the last dress he’d give to you! That is the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard - did he think of that on his own? (I know my mom got a little too “involved” perfecting my dad’s toast, haha!) I love dad toasts - they are the best!!

okay… i have to ask. i know that your info says you’re from Chicago, but did you get married in West Michigan? More specifically, at the Trillium Banquet and Conference Center? I’ve been looking at your photos and I can’t get over how much it looks like the place where my high school had their proms!

@lil pooch: yep! Mr powder puff and I are both from the west michigan area, and both of our families still live there, so it was the natural place for us to get married there. :)

Your dads toast is the sweetest I’ve ever heard. It reminds me of the how Gwyneth Paltrow told the story of how her dad took her to Paris for the first time because he wanted her to see it for the first time by a man who would always love her, no matter what.

I’m getting all teary eyed here.

@BlushingBride530: My dad has the gift of the Irish speech in him! He is an excellent speaker and really brilliant, so he came up with it on his own. :)
