About Mrs. Dew Drop

This wedding is making me think that there are major gaps in what I know. For instance, I know next to nothing about flowers.

Hmm, maybe I need to get Mr. DD to bring me flowers more often?

I’m not sure how this happened. I mean, I do know some basic types–roses and daisies and tulips and orchids. And it turns out that my sister had hydrangeas at her wedding. But peonies? Ranunculus? I don’t think I knew what either of them looked like until I got engaged.

Clearly I was missing something big here. Peonies and ranunculus are romantic-looking! They have ruffles! Perfect for our wedding in a historic mansion.

But considering we’re getting married in September, it might have been better if I had never seen them. Peonies and ranunculus are mainly spring flowers. And it seems very un-budget friendly to procure out of season flowers.

So, what to do for fall?

Garden roses!

These look like they could fulfill my ruffly, romantic dreams, right?

Oh, wedding planning has been a constant learning experience. I never knew what peonies looked like, either! Nor had I thought about the different types of tuxes, or the etiquette of thank you notes!

I love every single bouquet you posted here. What I learned about weddings is that peonies may be available in the spring when I’m getting married, but they are horribly expensive. ;)

I fell in love with peonies too. Fortunately, my wedding is late May, so they’re in season. I’m doing hot pink for my bouquet, and then each bridesmaid will have a different shade of pink peonies. However, my florist told me that ranunculus were not an option, since they’re best late August, which means they should still be in season for your wedding.

So, so much to learn when it comes to weddings. I thought I had a clue and quickly realized I didn’t.

I learned that pretty much everything I like is out of my budget :) I still haven’t learned how to pronounce ‘ranunculus’…

The garden roses are very pretty! I also fell in love with ranunculus, which I’d also never heard of, and used them for my May wedding. I don’t think I could name any flowers except rose, tulip, and daisy before my wedding! (okay, a teeny exaggeration, but not by much!)

My wedding has taught me a ton! I knew nothing about flowers, favors, or how much a good photographer or MC actually costs! Hard lessons! haha!

Wedding planning has been a constant learning experience. I had no idea how much went into planning an event like this and have learned about different fabrics, flowers, etc. It has been great, but I definitely felt like I was starting completely from scratch knowing next to nothing about weddings or what I might want for my own wedding.

My mom has always had a green thumb, and would drag us along as children. We always had a huge garden (1 acre in the suburbs), that we would take care of every day - and give the produce away to family and friends. At least I have her to thank for my knowledge of florals! Who would have thought it would come in handy ever again?

If you like frilly, ruffled flowers, check out Parrot Tulips. I told a florist friend of mine that I love papery flowers and he pointed them out. It is like a regular tulip that is frayed on the edges of the petal. They come in all colors and they are definitely my new fav!!
