Mad Men Revisited

August 30th, 2009 @ 11:30 am by Miss Chick

You may remember my post earlier about wanting a Mad Men vibe for the groomsmen. Well, the much anticipated partnership between Banana Republic and Mad Men has finally arrived! The womenswear has some promising outfits. However, the men’s outfits are less than inspiring:

While I agree that suit looks very similar to Don’s, I feel like they had that suit before. Anyway, I am thinking it’s not going to be the best fit for Mr. C, since he has a slimmer build. Perhaps something more like this?

This is from Burberry, or as I like to call it, Unaffordable. So, of course, I found my alternative love at J.Crew!

Get ready for a big load of pictures!

He could wear this vest when he’s dancing!

Now THIS looks very Mad Men to me, with the pocket square and tie clip.

I’m not sure how I feel about these pants. They seem a bit tapered. What do you guys think?

Drum roll, please! Here comes my all-time fave suit! It is near perfection. When I first saw it, I thought it was light gray. But the description says it is actually faded black fine stripes. I think if it were light gray, it would match perfectly with the bridesmaids’ pewter dresses. But this way it will be nice too, I think. I will have to actually see the swatch to make sure. It is also cotton (compared to the two wool suits above), so it will be easier to move in and cooler for our outdoor wedding.

But, right away, I know this will 99% not happen. Mr. Chick refuses to wear stripes. Refuses! And of course, I want him to wear something he loves. So we shall see. I’m sure we can find something similar somewhere else in light gray. Also, I might be just a teeny tiny bit biased in liking this suit because the model looks like a young Johnny Depp. Just saying!

With gray shoes. Which do you like better? Brown or gray shoes?

Does your groom have a lot of opinions when it comes to his wedding-day outfit?

I love the J.Crew suits, but those pants do seem a little more tapered than normal! My fiance and I have been eyeing that whole look with the vest, rolled up shirt sleeves, and tie. He’s probably going to go that route instead of the traditional tux and/or suit!

hmmm, aren’t j crew suits really expensive? I would personally rather have my groom rent a tux then pay a few hundred for a suit.

What is this “Mad Men” style. I haven’t heard of it and am not sure what you are referring to?

my fiance is also on the slender build side. we went every where looking in vancouver. for the heck of it we went into tommy hilfiger. found it! he has bought himself a stunning classic suit from there. tommy does make sleder fit items and it was perfect, other places we would have had to have had the item taylored. and it is a set that they carry all year from what i was told. the manager also gave us 40% off because it was family and friends week.

I am a big fan of those J Crew Suits and your favorite is mine as well! However one thing to think about is that the itty bitty stripes don’t make for the best pictures- you can see the “strobing” effect in a few of them- where the fabric looks like it has a watermark or is taffetta-like. Just a thought since photos of the big day are sure to be important and plentiful!

Those last two suits are amazing. And both models are totally hot, so I don’t know how much my opinion of the suits is influenced by that! Anyway, love the slim-fitting suits!

@Andrea, you can’t seriously not know what Mad Men is in reference to, right? Well, if not, it’s an Emmy and Golden Globe winning TV series. I’ve never even seen a single episode, but I hear the show is great.

My groom has SO many opinions…but not just about his outfit - the WHOLE wedding!!! What happened to men sitting back and rolling with it all? LOL!

brown shoes definitely. I love all these suits! Any of them would be awesome. My guy is going with a traditional tux, and he has said he wants to wear a long tie and not a bowtie… otherwise we’ll just see what looks best. I have vetoed colored vests though, because it just reminds me of prom. Sorta makes me wish we were going the suit route!

i thought about doing a mad men theme for the boys but the fi doesn’t wanna! fyi i saw your fave jcrew suit in actual wedding pix and it doesn’t look too good….everyone was saying that it would show up too busy on the regular peoples pix (of course not the pro pix) and sure ’nuff it looked messy!

Ahhh, my fiance HATED the idea of vests, until I showed him this post. I think I’ve persuaded him! :)

Awe, I’m a little sad that the BR suits aren’t more fun! As for the J Crew options, I’m not a big fan of tapered pants, but if your guy is a slimmer build, the very skinny cut pants made for a cute tushie :)

And if you’re going with grey, I’m a big fan of brown accents!

I LOVE the second J Crew suit (Aldridge 2 button). I think it is still very Mad Men-esque! Ohhh my love for Don Draper (although I am not a fan of the infidelity going on in the beginning of this season…boooo).

My man has somewhat of an opinion on his attire (no light colored suits for him…), but he is willing to consider some different options!
