Marriage License? Check!

August 30th, 2009 @ 12:55 pm by Mrs. Mouse

On Thursday the Dude had the day off, so we went to the County Clerk’s office to pick up our marriage license! I was totally excited about it, and the Dude played along rather nicely.

It was altogether pretty uneventful, except for two things.

First, the woman at the front desk asked to see the Dude’s driver’s license. It happens to have a photo that was taken when he was 21 when he had short hair and no beard. The woman gasped aloud and said, “What happened?” I cracked up.

As we were leaving, I insisted we take a photo of ourselves with the license. At first we tried the reach-around shot, but then a guy handing out political propaganda asked if we wanted him to take our photo. The Dude was like, “No, that’s OK.” But I said, “Sure!” He made us take some literature afterwards with a photo of Obama wearing a (very realistic looking) Hitler mustache. At least we got a good photo!

It’s getting real, folks!

That sounds just like Austin. I’m surprised Leslie didn’t offer to take it for you guys.

So how far before your wedding should you get your marriage license? We are getting married Nov 14, 2009. :)

Thanks!

@julesann: It depends on what state you live in! In Texas, you can get your license up to 30 days before your wedding, but it must be at least 3 days before. Every state is different, just google the requirements for your state!

Haha! Our clerk was an older woman, and didn’t appreciate our laughter when she asked us if we were related or had any communicable diseases that the other was not aware of!

We got married in Austin and when we went to get our license, the only eventful aspect were the signs that say “Additional Parking at Chair King.” For whatever reason, that totally cracked us up.

Also, when we dropped off the license after the wedding to get processed so we could get the official certificate, they told us if we waited a few minutes, they could process it on the spot! It was great for us, since we live in DC.

Obama as Hitler-funny. As a native Chicagoans-we are big Obama fans. Why is your license so fancy? Ours was an ugly computer printout-it made for a strange photo (no one can figure out what it is). And the dude is lucky-not only did they make me re-take my DL photo when I turned 30 (My pic from when I was 21 was naturally fab), but they made me take new pics when I changed my name! (They have a photo less than 3 years old on file, so what gives??)

Haha I love the comment that the woman at the front desk made…I want to see your man’s driver’s license now!

Hahaha… my fiance is just the opposite. While he was living in Malibu for college he was doing the whole “surfer” look and had long shaggy hair but after graduating college chopped it all off for when he started doing interviews… on a daily basis people laugh at his ID from when he was 21!
