Bridesmaids’ Dresses

August 31st, 2009 @ 10:34 am by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

I’ve been searching for bridesmaids dresses for a while now. I went back and forth between colors that I wanted, and I finally decided on grey. Not boring grey though; they will all look gorgeous. I’m planning to let all the girls pick their own dresses. I want all my girls to feel and look their best. The good thing about choosing grey is that it crosses seasons, so they won’t have to buy something right now. The color will still be around in summer, fall, and winter. Here are some that I like:

And what about the MOH?

My sister is the matron of honor, and her favorite color is green, which is also a color in our wedding. Then I started to think, ‘Why not let her wear a green dress if she wants to?’ I’m being pretty lax with the whole bridesmaid dress-thing, so why not go one step further and let one of them wear an entirely different color? Then, I found a dress on J.Crew (which has the most amazing color palette this year) that I like in green. You may recognize this dress as one I liked in grey. Yep, it’s the same dress.

Did your MOH wear a different color? What are some ways to accessorize your MOH to make her stand out?

Those dresses are great. I LOVE JCrew–that’s what my BM wore. They all wore the same color, but I think it’s a cool idea to have the MOH in a different color.

My girls are all wearing floor length evening gowns in shades of blue, from powder blue to navy of their own choosing and my sister is wearing a blue print BCBG evening gown. I love it!

p.s. my sister is the MOH and will wear the printed dress. Here is her dress (it’s ABS not BCBG: http://www.bluefly.com/ABS-french-blue-floral-chiffon-strapless-long-dress/cat20112/301563101/detail.fly

I’m thinking of doing grey dresses as well. Are you at all worried about light grey looking light in pictures?

Looking at some stuff online, I’m worried about their light grey dresses blending with my dress. And/or about washing everyone out and lacking that color “pop”.

@cfitz621: Well, actually even though I liked those dresses, my BMs are able to pick what they want, and so far the 2 that have bought dresses chose a darker grey, which I’m fine with. It looks like all my girls are headed toward the darker greys. I also think the grey will let the accessories pop (flowers, necklaces, shoes, etc)

@Miss Frozen Yogurt: That’s what I’m hoping for too. My sister - and MOH - is a fashionista so I’m relying on her to come up with great accessories for color.

those are all great. i am partial to the amanda archer dress, she’s awesome. I’m thinking of using her for my dresses. I think the green is a great idea for your MOH…

@cfitz621: You could always add a sash, or a flower or something to the dress too.

I like your ideas!

My sister, who is my MOH, is wearing this dress

The rest of my bridal party was asked to wear a navy J Crew dress of their choosing. I am really excited to see it all come together!

All of my BMs, inclusing my MOH are all wearing different color dresses. One is in yellow, one in orange, and another in an orange poppy print. I let them all choose which dress they wanted, but they ended up picking the same style dress! Oh, well.. ;)

I’m doing the same thing. My girls will be in black since our colors are pink & black. My girls range in height from 5′ to 5′11′ and they all have different shapes and I want them to be comfortable. I was in a wedding, we all wore the same thing, I was a little more top heavy than everyone else and looked silly. I didn’t want my girls to have to worry about that.

@nhlchick4: Same here! That’s what motivated me to let everyone pick.

I wanted gray at first too, but then I bought a wedding gown with black. My girls are now wearing black as well!

@Clover: that dress is gorgeous, and I love that combo of a print for the MOH and different navy blues for the rest. Great pick!

My MOH will be my only bridesmaid (unless my sister wants to be one). =) So she’ll stand out no matter what!

I love love LOVE the grey dress in the upper right corner, with the ruching at the bust and the scoop neck. Beautiful.

I love love love the green! I think it’s a great idea to have the MOH wear a different color … I’ve seen just a different style, or a different bouquet … but an entirely different color sounds like a fun idea to me!
