Co-Ed Girls’ Night?

August 31st, 2009 @ 1:47 pm by Mrs. Mary Jane

Mr. Mary Jane’s aunts threw me an awesome shower this past Saturday. I brought my camera, but I was having such a good time, I forgot to take a single photo! Until I get the photos from other attendees, you’ll just have to trust that there was plenty of this…

And many of these thoughtful things…

A considerable amount of this…

And even some games involving this.

But as the sun went down, the shower turned a little nasty! In a good way, of course. I don’t know if you can call it a bachelorette party, but I’m fine with that (I didn’t really want one of those anyway). We broke out the champagne and played a couple of naughty games, which were really fun. Then the men starting showing up!

Yes, the men.

Mr. Mary Jane comes from a large family and has many cousins, most of whom are male. It’s kind of a joke as to whether his family is able to actually have female babies. In addition to aunts, grandmas and neighbors, my shower was attended by three of the four female cousins and a girlfriend of one of the guys. But the guys weren’t far off! The shower started at four, at by 8:30 the house was filled with family. Young and old, male and female. Sitting and standing, eating, drinking, chatting, laughing, joking and having a great time. I texted Mr. MJ and he and a friend came over as well.

At one point, one of the hosts apologized for having so many men at what was supposed to be a girls’ night, but I assured her I didn’t mind at all! I in fact thought it was completely awesome. I love those ladies, but the guys are great too. It was a perfect night spent just hanging out with my soon-to-be family, socializing, goofing off and tossing back a few adult beverages.

I went home with Mr. MJ at about midnight, got some sleep, and felt completely fine the next morning. That’s my kind of night!

Have any of your “girls-only” events been crashed by the opposite sex?

I think that’s fun! We have a lot of the same friends, anyway. (Many of my girl friends want to go to his bachelor party!) I can’t stop thinking about the scene in Mamma Mia! when the bachelorette party gets crashed by guys in masks :)

That definitely sounds like a lot of fun. I think it’s perfect because you got to do some “girly things” and then were able to include the rest of the family. I love it!

i think that’s a great idea! For my shower I want to have all the girls there from like 4-6 and then invite our guy friends and family over to continue the party! But I will still have another bachelorette party…with no boys allowed :)

I haven’t had a co-ed party since the neighbor guys tried to sneak into our 4th grade slumber party. We weren’t so happy to have them then, but I think it’d be a great idea now :) Ending your girls-night with your man is by far the best way

I crashed a bachelor party with FI’s cousin. Okay, well not really crashed. Some guys that FI works with were having a low key “man night” to celebrate another co-worker’s upcoming wedding. FI’s cousin was in town and he wanted to hang out with her as much as possible (they’re like siblings). At the invite/behest of all the guys in attendance, the cousin and I went with FI. Lol, we provided the photography/documentation for the evening as things unfolded. :)

When a couple at work got married, the guys all went to the go-kart track while the girls had a traditional shower so stupefyingly boring that one by one, women made excuses to leave…and went to the go-kart track to meet their significant others. I don’t recall whether the bride and the party organizers ever found out.

That sounds like a blast!

P.S. That cake looks delicious. This was not a good thing to see while hungry. :p

My shower was female only, but I had to enlist the assistance of several men to load and unload the vehicles. Post unloading, they informed me that I owed them food and beverage for their manual labor. And then the party began :)

I’m kind of dropping hints and hoping for the guys crashing after we get back to the hotel for my bachelorette party.
