Invitations: FINALLY!

August 31st, 2009 @ 4:14 pm by Mrs. Cloud

I haven’t written any posts with tons and tons of beautiful pictures of what I might want our invites to look like. I also haven’t been stalking Etsy for the most stunning designs, or even playing in Adobe trying to make my own. In fact, I haven’t thought about our invites in over six months. Why? Am I a crazy bride who is leaving this very important piece of planning to the last minute? Nope! In fact, our invites have been sitting pretty in my dining room begging to be stuffed and sealed since February! And finally, FINALLY after all the months of waiting and anticipation, they are in the mail and have been received by most of our guests. So without further ado, its time for their Weddingbee debut!!

It kills me to blur out all the pretty print :(

We ordered our William Arthur invites from a local store here in Richmond. Mama Cloud and I started looking at invitations over a year ago while she was in town visiting. The only criteria we had was that they were to be simple, yet traditional and elegant, and we had to have letterpress (I obsessed over letterpress at the time, too. The sales girl showed me things that were very nice but weren’t pressed, and I didn’t even want to entertain them. I was just stuck, and felt like I HAD TO HAVE IT). When we saw this suite the first time, we went right by it. Our colors are black, white and red, so the ivory wouldn’t fit at all. But I thought about it and couldn’t get the weight and feel of the paper out of my head.

Trust me, they just FEEL good!

By the time we sat down to place an order I don’t think either of us even really looked at anything else. These were just screaming everything I wanted people to expect of our wedding.

Picking them up was my first big “this is it” moment. Seeing our date and names printed out like that just made the whole wedding more real. There was no turning back now!

Daddy Cloud hand canceled every last one, and Mama Cloud amused me by taking pictures. Yes, they think I’m nuts.

Overall, the invite itself is pretty simple and straightforward. There are both outer and inner envelopes, the main invite, an RSVP card and envelope, and a reception card that also included our wedding website address for more information.

Did you knock out invitations early? Was the decision easy or hard?

Wow! Cloud those are absolutely gorgeous — so elegant. I bet they do *feel* nice!

My cousin (a graphic designer) said she wanted to help design them a long time back. I need to see if she still wants to! I hope to have them in my little hands by early December and have them mailed out just after the new year. If they look anything close to the level of gorgeous yours achieved, I’ll be THRILLED!

Those are so beautiful and timeless! I’ve already done a mock up of our invites and our wedding isn’t till 2011. Better early than late, right?

Did you have the envelopes addressed by a calligrapher? Stunning! I also love your choice of fonts on the suite!

I knocked out my invitations about 9 months early. It was easy because I found a designer I love and she created something that fit perfectly. Now they get to sit in a box just waiting until March.

Wow-stunning. LOVE letterpress. They are simple & elegant-just what I would have chosen if we didn’t design our own. It would seem, Miss Cloud, that you and I had similar themes to our weddings-we did b&w damask with touches of red as well!

love them. how come you had to put so many stamps on the outer envelope? Were they that heavy or oversized? Looks like a normal 63 cent stamp would have sufficed!

Your invitations are very simple and elegant. Thank you for posting this Miss Cloud. I always look at the weddingbee invites and feel that I have to do something over-the-top. When I saw yours, I realized simple can be just as great…and it’s more me.

I too love these invites - exactly what I am envisioning for mine. Simple, classic, elegant, and that damask liner just adds enough pop! Plus that calligraphy - wow..
