Mrs. Lightning, Cape Town
Age and Occupation: 22, Journalist and Graphic Designer
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 23, Computer Scientist
Engagement Date: December 27, 2008
Wedding Date: September 2009
Venue: Hout Bay Manor
About Me: I'm a young American living abroad in the beautiful city of Cape Town with a wonderful South African fiance and our crazy kitty Zeus. We're young, driven and madly in love. Together we're pursuing our wildest dreams including our biggest undertaking yet, a vintage retrospective wedding filled to the brim with DIY madness. I have an unnatural attraction to cake, a passion for blogging and a love of good design. While I might be an overly obsessive creative with too many ideas and nowhere to put them, Mr Lightning is my biggest fan and I can't wait to make my true love mine.
I’m sorry I’ve been absent this weekend. In my defense, I spent it recovering. I’ll let some pictures do the talking (and please don’t judge - I was outnumbered by 9 lovely bunnies)!
To explain… the tin above was filled with screws, the kind you get at hardware stores. Strung around my next was a sign boldly advertising “R10 a screw”…

Mrs. Chick, Houston
Age and Occupation: 28, Rights and Reproduction Manager
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Computer Programmer
Engagement Date: November 15, 2008
Wedding Date: April 2010
Venue: A farm outside of Houston
About Me: Mr. Chick and I met almost ten years ago at Baker Blues, a college jazz party. He was attracted to my intensity, and I was mesmerized by his trivia pursuit skills and his dorm furniture adorned with his initials. We've grown more sophisticated through the years, with our love of wine, owning a house together, and parenthood (of a cat), but we have not lost our silliness or childish sense of humor!
Mad Men is a show on AMC that Mr. Chick and I both love dearly. I am just as inspired by their moving storyline as their fashion. Most TV shows focus on women’s clothing. Mad Men, however, pays equal attention to both.
The adorable Mr. Chick was very excited when I sent him the following pictures for wedding rehearsal/reception inspirations:

About Me: I enjoy cooking, dancing and swimming. I am a geek and apply game theory to my everyday life. Winter is my favorite time of year, especially when spent curled up with good coffee and a book by Madeleine L'Engle.
There were two things that our photographer, Ken Blaze, said about our wedding that he had never seen before at a wedding.
1. The dance floor was immediately packed following my dance with my dad.

About Me: Mr. Cupcake and I hit it off at a Halloween party and immediately began a long-distance relationship. After two years, he moved to my neck of the woods, and a year and a half after that, he proposed at the “place we fell in love.” I am a true perfectionist who enjoys designing and creating more work for myself, so wedding planning is my perfect outlet. Mr. Cupcake and I are both old souls, and we hope to weave that aspect of our personalities into our wedding day.
Mrs. Cupcake’s blogging story:
I used to think blogging was really, really weird. I thought blogs were just journals of random thoughts and innermost feelings that people would broadcast across the interwebs. I didn’t get it, and I never bothered to really look into it any further. I had no idea that there were blogs out there that were actually focused on specific topics.
When my best friend was planning her 2006 wedding, I designed her invitations and a bunch of other paper products for her wedding; we spent lots of time trying to find inspiration online, but never really knew where to look. There were only so many times we could scour The Knot and our overpriced wedding magazines. We managed to pull off some great details, but it was a lot harder to find unique ideas than we thought it should be!
Fast-forward to 2007, when Mr. Cupcake and I were engaged and my brother and sister-in-law were also in the process of planning their own wedding that was to take place that summer. My mom and I were visiting them in Brooklyn one weekend in the spring, when Kim and I were talking weddings. It was then that Kim spoke the five words that changed my life: “Have you heard of Weddingbee?” That may sound over-dramatic, that it “changed my life,” but it is absolutely 100% true!

I’m a full-time worker, part-time student, soon-to-be-step-mom, indie music lovin’, architecture and design fanatic, macaroni and cheese addict, vegetarian, Francophile, Ohio State football obsessed, wedding planning girl. Mr. Quiche and I are “Partners-in-Crime” and cannot wait to celebrate our marriage surrounded by our family and closest friends. I plan on DIYing my little heart out (or as much as a suitcase to Jamaica will hold).
Before I finish up my recaps with the reception, Faux-tobooth and (an awesome) TTD, I thought I’d share our details with you that I didn’t get to prior to the wedding. What better way to show them off than complete & in action?

Wedding Date: January 2010
Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch
About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
I already gave you all a sneak peek at my DIY garter and promised to show the final product once I was done, remember? Well… I’m done!
And I’m here to show it to you all.

About Me: Voracious reader of short stories, Russian literature, National Geographic and Cosmo. I'm a GENIUS at spicing up Weight Watchers recipes and a pathological cheater at board games. I run a slow marathon, but my feet are learning to move faster. Mornings aren't my thing, but I can night owl with the best of them. Don't tempt me with your Cherry Cokes---I'm trying to quit. Tomorrow. Or never.
I am a HUGE proponent of travel journals. I have been on a few significant trips in my life: Europe with my Dad and Tweets, Hawaii with an old boytoy, and most recently: my Sistamoon. On each, I kept a travel journal. At the end of every day, I took ten minutes to write down everything that happened that day. Vacations go by SO fast - it’s easy to forget all of the details… I am so happy to have those travel journals to look back on to remember all of the fun moments.
SO, of course this meant I had to prepare a travel journal for the Sistamoon. I promptly referred to my fave craft book… (This is seriously the best book ever!)

Trusty Esther had a travel journal tutorial… SCORE! Creating this journal was a lot of work, but I knew this was a special trip, so I wanted a special kind of journal - all the work was well worth it. Let’s get started!

About Me: I am your typical Midwestern girl attempting to plan a sane, budget-friendly, fun wedding to the man of my dreams. I love shoes, laughing at “Platinum Weddings”, crafts, inspiration boards, candy, and basically anything I can DIY. While weddings can certainly be all-consuming, I honestly can’t wait until the ceremony is over and I can finally call Mr. Powder Puff my husband!
When we last left off, Mr. Powder Puff and I had just gotten ourselves hitched, and we were basking in the newlywed glow. Which is fabulous. But in order to understand the proper placement in time of these photos, you need to take a little trip back with me to before the newlywed glow, and to more of an, “OMG! We’re about to get married!!!” panic.
What’s the best way to relax a panicking bride and groom? Take photos with your besties, of course!

Wedding Date: September 2009
Venue: Barr Mansion
About Me: I just graduated from law school and will be taking the bar, getting married, going on a honeymoon with my guy, and then trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!
When I first became a bee, I told you guys that I was planning on creating favors by putting locally farmed honey into test tubes and corking them. I also told you that I had a project in mind for the test tubes that would be leftover after I finished the favors. Well, here it is! I decided to use the extra test tubes and corks to create a stylish and convenient place to store all of my spices. It’s a really simple project.

Engagement Date: May 6, 2007
Wedding Date: June, 2009
Venue: Millenium Biltmore Hotel
About Me: I was born and raised in West Los Angeles, California. I spent eight years in the Northeast working and completing my education. Having split time between two sides of the country has given me a true appreciation for both coasts. It has also provided an overabundance of cross country drives, flights and long distance relationship fun/misery! I love my family, my doggy Emma, fabulous wine, Anthropologie, politics, reading, being outdoors, exploring new cities, and good movies! My fiance and I are complete opposites, but somehow we have managed to fall completely and hopelessly in love.
I woke up, the same as every other morning, next to Mr. G. Except the date was June 27, 2009, and something very important was about to go down. We were getting married.
For the most part, I was virtually useless on the morning of my wedding. I couldn’t be bothered with anything. I felt nervous, giddy, overwhelmed. Yet, I wasn’t feeling overly romantic, glowing, or bridal.
It was all good, though. I didn’t have to be the sharpest tool in the shed; especially when I had an entourage of awesome people helping me, and basically putting me together. Without further ado, I’ll let the pictures tell the story of my wedding morning.
Black and white photos are the best friends of this makeup-less girl.

We've grown more sophisticated through the years, with our love of wine, owning a house together, and parenthood (of a cat), but we have not lost our silliness or childish sense of humor!
Today was a very exciting morning. I woke up, did pilates, had McDonald’s to cancel out calories lost during pilates, and discovered the amazingness of farm weddings.
Get ready for a visual overload. These dinners are done by a group named Outstanding in the Field. They tour around the world, working with chefs, setting up meals in natural settings, with their signature long white linen washed tables. They did one near Houston just outside of Brenham at Jolie Vue Farms. Unfortunately, Jolie Vue does not host weddings unless it’s for their own family members.
However, Outstanding in the Field does handle private events. At $180/head for their usual public events, I’d imagine private events are pretty pricey too. But if we have our wedding at a farm, perhaps the venue price would go down, and we can put that money towards good food.
Because of the the recent changes happening at the Wortham Center, we’re having second thoughts about where we should get married. Basically, they are heaping on a bunch of extra fees that we didn’t know about when we put our name down for the place. In addition, they totally changed what they said about the catering, which is frustrating, not to mention expensive. Thankfully, we didn’t need to put any money down to reserve the space. It’s still an option, and we may still have our wedding there. But as of right now, we are considering other places!

On any day you can find me reading the latest book I have gotten my hands on, eating Swedish Fish, and perusing wedding blogs! We are both champagne drinking foodies on a Bud Light budget. We are planning an eco-chic, intimate, and interfaith San Francisco City wedding.
The first look was the part of the day that I was most looking forward to, but in reality, it ended up just being a quick moment for the two of us to reconnect for the day.
I tried to stay calm.

But in reality I was trying not to burst at the seams:

About Me: I've lived in Atlanta, Dallas and Laguna Niguel; although I've lived in Orange County, CA most my life, I'm a Southerner at heart. I love his "old soul" and how he laughs with his whole body, among many other things. We are planning our summer wedding at the winery near his hometown, just 45 minutes south of Orange County.
I got married this weekend!
The day was amazing! Mr Frenchie and I were surrounded by so much love! We are still on cloud nine. I couldn’t have asked for a better weekend.
