A year ago today I put on a silly poofy dress, high fived a stud, did my own stunt, lip synced to Neil, got smashed with cake, and danced like no one was watching.
It was off the hook! But contrary to what people tell me, it was not the best time of my life, by far.
You see, ol’ Miss Independent here was a non believer in marriage ’til not too long before walking down that aisle. “Didn’t need some title or piece of paper to define what I’ve got,” so arrogantly I thought to my ignorant little self.
But holy crap y’all, marriage is the best thing since was always better than sliced bread! I now recommend it like it’s Shamwow, tooting how you’ll be saying, “wow.” A good husband is great for the house, the car, the boat, the RV, and can hold 12x his weight in liquid!

The future in-laws have done it again… they’re getting me a horse and buggy to carry me to and from the ceremony!
When I found out, I was initially thrilled! But then I started thinking that it may be a bit unnecessary. I mean, I could just ride the trolley there and back, right? Why spend extra money when we don’t need to? We’re trying to cut back on frivolous items, not tack them on!
I voiced these concerns to Mr. Lab and his sister, but they weren’t having it. Mr. Lab is a very traditional, Southern-raised lad and I’ve come to realize that like me, he has a few “expectations” of his wedding and future bride.* One of them is the romantic view of his soon-to-be wife riding up in a horse-drawn carriage moments before exchanging vows. He was sold on the idea the moment he heard plans of it. And he’s not budging. Because he rarely requests anything wedding-wise, I’ve decided to let him have this one. Apparently being a buggy bride is no frivolous thing in Mr. Lab’s book!
So for an extra $175, I will be chauffeured in one of these beauties:

The Bay Area bees are getting together today! We thought we’d spice it up by each bringing something related to our bee character. Penguin fillets are SOOOO not PC, so I figured that it was finally a great time to make this funny little appetizer from Once Upon a Plate, sent to me earlier this year by reader gidget145!

Do you follow your vendors? I do! I recently joined Twitter, and since Twitter pulls your email address to help you find people you know, it naturally pulled my vendors who tweet. Instantly, I was following along with our DJ, Photog and Officiant. I already followed some of their blogs (and Laura and I go to TaeBo together), but this new social media makes me feel more connected than ever.
I enjoy hearing about the other weddings they’re doing, seeing new blog posts, and getting to know more about them on other levels. I also think it helps them get to know me and my style in different and more in-depth ways. For example, when I accidentally made myself look like a superhero, my DJ joked that he could play superhero music for my entrance, and my photographer gave me the contact info for his hairstylist friend!

I’m so glad that Weddingbee decided to do a series about what it takes to be a bee, because lately, I have definitely been feelin’ it.
But let’s not talk about that quite yet.
First, Let Me Tell You How I Found Weddingbee.
I went to college at the University of Oregon and graduated in 2005. While there, I met a fabulous group of friends. One of them was the couple you know as Mr. & Mrs. Cherry Pie. I don’t live on the West Coast any more but thanks to the wonders of the Internet, I’ve managed to stay in touch with my friends. And in 2008, when Cherry Pie announced that she’d joined the ranks at Weddingbee, I found the site. And became addicted. And decided that when I became a bride-to-be, I was going to blog there too.
In the meantime though, I was absorbing everything the site had to offer. I loved reading posts from Mrs. Lovebug, Mrs. Onion, Mrs. Candy Corn, Mrs. Penguin, and all of the other then-current bees. I went there every day, and read every post. And I wasn’t even engaged!
Why Would Weddingbee Want Me?

On my blog, I love doing “behind the scenes” posts. It shows sneak peeks about what the IG team is working on.
You may remember the post I did about the Family Tree Envelope Liners and the Etched Mirror, well, these photos are from our staff at that same wedding. Since everything happened surrounding a master time-line, here’s a step-by-step of how the day progressed:

I’m not really a daddy’s girl. When I need advice about life, I turn to my mother - she has truly been my rock growing up. To be painfully honest, I don’t even really have much of a relationship with my dad. I love him, and he loves me, but we’re two very different people, and we know it. Thankfully, the relationship that we do have is good - we respect each other, and when we do talk, we speak fondly to each other, and try to catch up on the other’s life in any little way we can.
While I’m (sadly) not very close with my dad, I do wish to dance with him at my wedding. I try not to rock the boat too much with him, or be too demanding, so I told him I would dance with him to any song he wants (the proverbial apple has already fallen far enough from the tree).
I would have loved to have a song that was special to my dad and me, like Mr. Bear Cub and his mother. I didn’t really think it would be possible - we’re so different, my dad and I.
Last night, he sent me this song. I nearly cried.

This weekend, we’re off to the first of four weddings (not counting our own) that we have to go to in the next nine weeks. Yes, that means 5 out of 9 weekends will be spent celebrating marriage. Talk about a wedding marathon! And to top it off, 2 of the additional weekends (or weeks, actually) will be spent on our honeymoon (to be blogged about soon, I swear!). It’s going to be a busy two months in the Mascara household!

Well, it’s official: my stepfather is legally allowed to marry people in the city and state of New York!
Yep, you heard that right, my stepfather is going to be our wedding officiant!
How did this come about, you may wonder? Well, as many of you may know, it can be pretty tough planning a wedding when you have divorced and remarried parents. Don’t get me wrong, I love my stepparents. I always say, why would I be upset to have four parents who love me instead of just two? However, wedding traditions can get a bit sticky when your family tree is anything but tall and straight.
It’s even tougher (and also more awesome!) when your stepfather has been around since you were 15 and has become a major parental figure in your life. Who walks you down the aisle? Who dances with you? Who contributes financially? It’s all very complicated.
I tossed around various ideas for months: maybe they could each walk me down the aisle halfway? Maybe one could do the aisle and one could do the dance? Maybe I could walk down the aisle with my mom or by myself and avoid the issue altogether? Nothing seemed right.

TGIF hive! Irene, our amazing artist, just finished up our newest generation of bees… junk food! We threw in a few healthy options in there as well, just for any potential health-conscious bees! Check them out and see what you think!
Several of our wonderful bees are getting married in the next few weeks, and we’re looking for some fresh faces in the hive while we anxiously await their recaps. So if you’ve been on the fence about applying to the ’bee, now is a great time!

I’ve slowly been collecting supplies for our OOT welcome bags the last few weeks. Although they’re not finished, I wanted to share my plans for them!
I’m using brown bags and found this adorable package presentation that I thought looked very “Southern”. If you haven’t figured it out by now, this entire wedding will scream “the South” to our guests.
If I can’t find cheap doilies, I might just use some lace ribbon as an accent. I’m also putting little tags on the outside that will say something like “Welcome to Savannah!”, “Thanks for being our guests!”, etc.
Moving on to the insides of our bags…

Droooooool. <— That’s me dreaming about all of our wedding food. On a day to day basis, Mr. Sprinkle and I enjoy a pretty simple diet. I am really into clean eating: unprocessed, natural, whole foods. A typical day of eating for me would be a bowl of oatmeal with almond milk and almond butter for breakfast, some berries dipped in almond butter and a veggie/tofu/hummus packed pita for lunch, and a pineapple/mango/papaya/rice milk/soy yogurt smoothie for dinner. I also snack on almonds and blueberries throughout the day. (I can totally munch through a pound of blueberries in a few hours!) Pretty boring, I know. That is why I am SUPER STOKED about eating at the reception! We have had two tastings with our caterer and they have both been perfect. We are still finishing up our menu, but so far it is looking pretty spectacular!
