After we nixed the plan for plain cake with gourmet sauces — um, yeah, I’m going back to one of my posts from mid-May — I realized I was pretty jazzed about our new, traditional dessert. Why? Complimentary tastings!
One afternoon + two bakeries = a LOT of cake. (Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time.) Mrs. Cupcake’s tasting had sounded delicious, so I made sure we stopped into Sweet Jazmines first. The second spot was yummy, but it focused on pound cake and fondant (rather than layer cake and buttercream) so in our opinions, it really didn’t compare.
We received a generous sample platter of just some of Sweet Jazmines flavors. (Thanks for taking — and labeling! — this picture, Mrs. Cupcake!)
Mmm. Cheese. Ever since moving to California I have acquired a taste for good cheeses, which goes hand in hand with Mr. Sunbeam’s love of wine. Naturally, we want to include a cheese course in our menu. We have been to the Cheese School in San Francisco twice, and also conducted a few cheese tastings on our own.
Our photo from the Cheese School
If you’re into cheese and want to pick some yourself for your wedding, I recommend tasting the cheeses along with your chosen wines, because cheese can really effect the taste of you wine.

My dear best friend and bridesmaid Jaime came to visit New York this past weekend, and while I wanted to just hang out with her and eat cupcakes, she reminded me that we had a project to do. We decided to make the bags that will hold hot chocolate and apple cider for the guests. These will go in the guests’ out of town bags. I still haven’t decided what the actual OOT bags will be—they might be apple baskets or gable boxes!
I decided to buy muslin bags because I love the natural look and the cost. I only paid around 25 cents for each bag, and got them from this website.

Remember my lovely Part 1 where Sister Stiletto threw me a fabulous bridal shower? Well, once it was over, we skedaddled out of there, drove into the city to our suite at the Hard Rock Hotel, changed, and then hopped into a cab on our way to a mysterious destination.
Here we are, on our way…

When we walked into Circuit Night Club, where they have, err, review shows, I was quite hesitant and definitely had not had enough to drink at the point in the day.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I probably won’t do this, but wouldn’t it be great to have this dress made (since it’s Chanel and I can’t afford it)?
It’s from Audrey Tautou’s film, Priceless:
With three weeks to go, let’s just say I’ve been “pulling some all-nighters” on the crafting front. Actually, no need for the quotes. I’ve literally been staying up until 8AM, marathoning Greek, and cranking out wedding craft after wedding craft.
First, I made favor tags for our test tube honey favors by borrowing Mrs. Bunny’s idea of using leftover brown paper sacks in place of expensive kraft paper. I made a template using Excel (OK, the Dude made it for me), and then I cut out 100-something little brown tags. Next, I printed a message to our guests on each one using my Gocco. Unfortunately, the gold ink I wanted to use didn’t stand out enough on the brown paper, so I ended up just going with black. They’re not perfect, but I think they look pretty and homemade.
A couple nights later, I broke out the Gocco for one last hurrah to stamp all of our recycled kraft paper boxes. I ended up going with two pastel colors, a pinkish purple and a sea foam green. They weren’t exactly in our color scheme, but I think they will blend nicely with the rest of the decor. I’m getting pretty liberal with the color scheme, to be honest. It feels nice to let go!

Mr. Bear Cub was the easy one to outfit. Typically, when someone’s a groom, I guess what they do is send measurements to Men’s Wearhouse for a tuxedo, and then pick it up a few days before the wedding, right? Well… Mr. BC isn’t going to wear a tux, so having his dudes wear tuxes would be a little odd.
If you recall what Mr. BC is going to wear, I think the groomsdudes would look nice in lighter brown sport coats like this:
Okay, maybe evolution is too dramatic of a word for the change I made to my crinoline, but it sounds so cool!
Remember when I showed you all my crinoline? Well, after I looked at some pictures, I decided I wanted to spice thing up a little bit, like this:
{ Image Source (Link) }
But dyeing it was not really an option for me, because even though I love the way it looks, I didn’t want everything to be purple; I wanted white and purple. But re-doing the crinoline was not an option to achieve my desired look, so I opted for ADDING layers, instead!
Yes! I made it PUFFIER!

Like Mrs. Penguin, I was totally oblivious to blogging before I started looking for wedding inspiration. Sure, I’d heard of blogs, but the internet wasn’t something I spent a lot of time with. At least, not like I do now. And to be perfectly honest, I have no idea how I stumbled across Weddingbee. I just remember thinking how cool these girls were, how creative, and honest, and AWESOME! Soon, I was obsessed. Like, refreshing my browser every 5 minutes or so, needing another hit (you know you do it, don’t judge!). I never really got involved in the boards (and still struggle to keep up). Shortly after discovering Weddingbee, I decided I wanted to share my experiences with the hive. I wasn’t sure where to start, or what to talk about. My first posts are awful… seriously, rambling messes. I still find myself rambling…
When it came time to apply to blog the ‘bee, I filled out the application and waited on pins and needles for days. Instead of refreshing my browser, I was refreshing my mailbox. Then, one day, there was an email from WB. Unfortunately, it wasn’t what I wanted to hear. I had been turned down. Depressed, totally. I even avoided WB for a few days. But seriously, like a true addict, I had to get my fix, and came right back within a few days. So, was I discouraged? At first, yes. But after getting over the embarrassment of being turned down (even though no one knew but me and the bees), I was even more determined than before.

My last recap post did not end on a favorable note. If you can recall, the charter bus carrying over 50 of our guests was running an hour and a half late. I was hyperventilating in the bridal suite, and the boys were taking whiskey shots in their suite.
All my fears and anxiety were quelled when the bus arrived. It took less than 5 minutes for our DOC Christine Viola and the staff at The Fountainhead to shuffle all 50+ guests upstairs to the chapel and have them properly seated.
It was time to get married.
(All photos by Danny Weiss.)
Everyone was finally seated and ready to bear witness to our wedding.
Mr. Peony and his best man took their places at the altar while the bridal party lined up outside the chapel.

Yeah… so the story goes like this. While in PaperSource, Mr. D hears a song he wants for the mother/son dance. Yay, finally! So, we’re listening to the song at home and ask my dad for his thoughts. His thoughts? “Isn’t this the song from Midnight Cowboy?” Then, my dad proceeds to fill us in on the movie, which is one about broken dreams, heartbreak, and the sex trade, and this song that apparently plays at the end when his friend dies. Hmmm, not the mental images we were going for. If you’d like a laugh… here’s the video. Mr. D and I like his smooth moves, especially the hand twirl and the “skipping over the ocean” part.
This is definitely a recipe must for everyone! I am not a drinker by any means…the only kind of drinks I like are girly, fruity ones and I still find those hard to drink since they have calories (and loads of them) and I figure that I could have a dessert instead, but this drink/dessert is the perfect combo for me! This recipe is from David Lebovitz’s book, The Perfect Scoop, a book solely devoted to ice creams, sorbets, granitas, and sweet accompaniments. He describes granita as “a shaved ice, made from a lightly sweetened fruit puree or another liquid.” Even though I have drooled over many recipes so far this was the first one I’ve tried. The simplicity of the recipe is amazing, which lends itself to the pure and simple fact that you have no reason not to try it. Well, if I haven’t convinced you already hopefully the photos will!

The other night, FMIL Mary Jane called and said she wanted to come over. She had books full of cakes to share with me! Personally, I would have preferred Tupperware containers full of cake. But I still let her come over.
She brought me four books: three “Wilton Cakes” books and a photo album showing some of the cakes that her friend has made. She told me that the friend could make any cake in the books. I was impressed! There were some really elaborate cakes in there. What an awesome talent.
Some of the many cakes she’s made:

Yesterday, my coworkers “surprised” me with a wedding shower. My supervisor had asked me last week to block off Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. for a meeting, and was extremely evasive when I inquired about specifics. So I was already suspicious as he led me down the (uncharacteristically quiet) hall. When he started pushing open the conference room door, I heard giggles and shushing… and realized I was dreading this little party!
In the almost two years I’ve worked in this office, the unofficial party planning committee has pulled together nearly a dozen baby showers — but not a single wedding-related soiree, as I was the only engaged employee.
