But I really want them.
A lollipop flower in a cupcake. Genius, right?

From Martha, of course
We’re having a shower this weekend. And while I would have dropped shameless pointed hints to my mom and to bridesmaid R that I would really love to have these cupcakes, it seems there’s already a different, super-cute cupcake decorating idea in the works. Who can argue with that?

Ed. note: Mrs. Powder Puff is on her honeymoon, but she really wanted to participate in this series, and wrote her post on her blackberry and sent it to us! That’s dedication!

I first heard about blogging back in college, circa 2004. Sitting in a classroom at the beautiful Michigan State University, my professor was discussing new innovations in journalism (my undergraduate degree) when he mentioned a fairly new thing called “blogging”. At the time, it sounded narcissistic and, well… stupid. Who wants to read a glorified diary?! If only I knew then how blogging would change my life.
Fast forward four years. Mr. Powder Puff and I had just gotten engaged and I was searching the ‘net for candle centerpiece ideas. Bam! Up comes Weddingbee and Mrs. Lemon’s gorgeous centerpieces. From that moment on, I was hooked. As I continued reading over the summer, I realized that I wanted, nay, NEEDED to be a bee. And at that moment, I did something that I never thought I would do—I started my own blog.
Now, for those of you who have been following me from the beginning, you may have realized that I started blogging for Weddingbee waaaaay before our wedding. November of last year, to be exact. A full eight months till the big day. But I’ll let you in on a little secret. Come on in close and I’ll whisper it in your ear…

Earlier this summer, because I called off my wedding, my honeymoon became my “Sistamoon”. My sister Snappy-L and I vacationed for two weeks on a Mediterranean cruise, and I can honestly say it was the best trip of my life. We had a great time of relaxing, sightseeing, learning, bonding, and eating… a whole lot! It was just the medicine I needed. I know some of you are planning cruise honeymoons, as well as varying trips to Europe/Asia. SO…
If you’re in Barcelona, make sure to visit the Mercat de Sant Josep for fresh fruit…

The reason I’m having to go without my wedding band for the time being is a little complicated.
After we all got pretty, we headed over to Saddlerock Ranch to take portraits. Mr. Margarita was already there taking pictures with his family and I really didn’t want to see him before the ceremony so we had a specific time I was supposed to get there. Naturally we were late, so we missed that window of time. I was kind of freaking out and I lost it a little on my Mom because she took forever getting ready, which was part of the reason we were late. It was a total bridezilla moment and in retrospect I feel horrible about it. We showed up to the site and had to coordinate with our coordinator (hee hee) Mary so I wouldn’t see Mr. Marg. She was the one who calmed everything down and actually told me to apologize to my Mom. I’m SO glad she did, because I would have felt way worse being a brat after all my parents gave me on my wedding day and of course, my 26 years of life prior to that day. Anyway, I digress…
So, here are some of Mr. Margarita’s family portraits they took before we got to Saddlerock:

So many applicants ask us all the time what it takes to be a bee, how they can improve their blogging, etc. and I always feel a bit strange giving them advice, because who would know better how to answer these questions than all the bees, collectively? Every bee has a different experience when it comes to how they became bloggers, how they became wedding bloggers, and how they came to Weddingbee.
In the next few weeks, the bees will be sharing their stories of how they came to blog, how they came to ‘bee’, and will offer any little nuggets of advice that they have for blogging! We hope to give you a little peek into each of our experiences, and I’m personally excited to learn some new blogging tips from all my fellow bees!

My story…
Penguin. Who are you. How the heck did you get here? How did you focus your blog? Why are you Penguin? Do you have any blogging advice? I’ve always meant to write a post about this, but never did.
To be perfectly honest, before I found Weddingbee, I was completely unaware of the world of blogging. I thought (no joke) that all blogs were political blogs, because I’d definitely heard about blogs while watching CNN, but that was it. Mind you, this was 2007, not 1987. I feel like I spent a fair amount of time on the internet back then, but really limited myself to looking at YouTube, restaurant websites, and Yelp. Sometimes I think about how odd it is that I lived this entire life 2 years ago having never read blogs. Now, blogs are practically my entire life. It’s how I keep up with my friends and family, it’s my own form of self-therapy, and it’s how I make my decisions for everything in life: clothes, gifts, cleaning products, restaurants… EVERYTHING. I’m hesitant to try anything unless it’s been extensively blogged about by real people.
Tonight Mr. SB and I will have a virtual meet up with our photographer. I thought it would be best to meet and greet before the wedding day, because I already expect to feel awkward in front of the camera, let alone in front of a would-be total stranger. I also had a few things to share that I felt the need to share with him. I hope it wasn’t TMI. Here’s what I sent him yesterday, so we can talk about it during our meeting.
Inspirational photos: Though I do have a folder stashed full of poses for Mr. SB and I to keep in mind, the purpose of the photos I shared with our photographer was to show him the sort of tones and feel we liked (mostly useful during editing). I was sure to tell him these were not poses we wanted to recreate, because I know that is a no-no.
Any clue as to what I’m referring to? It’s my ears, and in particular, how I plan on decorating them on the wedding day. Or really, how I planned, then couldn’t decide, then lost one pair of earrings and am back at square one with two weeks to go to the wedding. hmmm.
At first, I considered wearing smaller pearls and a cameo necklace. But that much jewelry seemed distracting and I eventually decided it was best to only decorate my ears. Then the question became posts or drop/dangle earrings? They need to be large enough to show up in photos, but light enough that I don’t get a headache.
I found this pair that I loved, but waited to long and they disappeared… le sigh.
This will be a picture-less post, as I will be focusing on the one snafu in what could’ve been a perfect wedding day: NYC traffic.
NYC traffic on a Friday afternoon is pretty bad. NYC traffic on a Friday afternoon when various VIPs are in town is worse. Who exactly was in Manhattan on the day of my wedding? Let me give you the list, along with my mother’s reactions.
Fortunately, the bridal party got around without too much delay because we had given ourselves an extra hour of padding in the schedule. However, the bus that we had charted to shuttle our NYC guests to our venue got the worst of it.

…Is anyone else trying to resist using this excuse to spend money on stuff they don’t need?
For me, the obsession of late has been cake toppers. If you recall, a friend of my FMIL’s is making our cake and we don’t even really know what it’s going to look like. We don’t really care, either, as long as it tastes good. It isn’t going to be a big cake either: probably just one tier, to feed 9 people. (The picnic will have cake or dessert also, but that’s still TBD.)
I decided several weeks ago that a cake topper wasn’t necessary. Frosting decorations will be fine, thank-you-very-much. They taste a lot better than porcelain or plastic, anyway.
But what did I spend a good portion of yesterday evening doing? Looking at cake toppers on the internet.
I’m not a fan of monograms: they look beautiful and are perfect for others, but just not for me. Maybe I’m just slow, but I always had trouble figuring out whose monogram it was or what it stood for. A big “H” for “Hislast” would completely ignore the bride’s family’s involvement, in my opinion. And those three-letter designs with the couple’s first initials flanking the big “H”? I tend to focus on those when I see ’em, trying to determine what kind of inappropriate phrases could be made from the acronym. (Yes, I’m a 13-year-old boy at heart.)

For a long while before I was a preschool teacher, I was a nanny! I nannied for a few families over the years, and I still keep in touch with all of them. Our ring child is my former charge. Lil’ Sprinkle is one of the most spectacular, amazing people I have ever met (big or small). He seriously brightens my day whenever I see him.
I really wanted him to have something special to carry down the aisle. I just didn’t think a pillow would cut it, and as much as I love those ring warmer bowls, they seemed a bit fragile for a five year old. I decided the perfect compromise would be a book. A hollowed out book. So I went about hollowing out a book myself and it was a DISASTER! Project: Fail. The piece is so ugly that I can’t even show it to you. I won’t even let myself look at it.
Now I am looking for alternative solutions. I have a few ideas. Perhaps just have him carry a small drawstring pouch. Or a book tied up with string. Or one of these items I already have:
Small paper bag with a gold leaf print? Simple, easy, casual.
