I cannot believe I didn’t know about these ties from Cyberoptix before. They are SO awesome!

So, while plodding away at work, this special little something popped up in my inbox, sent to me by one of my maids of honour.

This past weekend I went back up to the UP for the last time before the wedding. In addition to vendor meetings to make sure everyone is on the right track for the big day, I had my makeup trial.
When I got to the salon, Leah, the girl who will be doing my makeup, told me to look at the makeup book they have to see if there were any pictures I liked. I had done a little research myself beforehand, but due to printer issues at my parents’ house (and trying to print the pictures 5 minutes before the trial) I had arrived empty handed. I showed her a picture in the book with a lighter shade of eyeshadow on the inner half of the eye and darker on the outer half. I said I’d really like to emphasize my eyes and she agreed that that was a good idea. Then she went to work.
For foundation, she applied a mix of tinted moisturizer, foundation, and some kind of shimmery add-in. While I don’t ever wear foundation, it was light and didn’t feel like my face was suffocating, as some foundations make me feel. She added a little bronzer and blush as well.
For the eyes she applied two shades of brown, lighter on the inside, and darker on the outside. She also applied some brown eyeliner and black mascara. For lips, we went with a light pink color with some gloss on top.
When I looked in the mirror, I was a little disappointed.
Waaaay back when (or maybe around five months ago), I was already starting to feel so, so behind on my wedding planning. Do real people actually manage to get their wedding planning done early?
That spurred me on to thinking about what exactly we were going to do about our save the dates. I knew I wanted to send them out—a reasonably large number of our invitees are from out of town. But, as usual, I was having trouble making a decision.
Since we were so, so behind, of course we hadn’t figured out what we wanted our invitations to look like yet. This meant that we couldn’t just go with matching save the dates.
Okay, so what to do? Mr. DD and I were trying to find something simple that could go on a magnet. Those were pretty much our only criteria.
So, I put on my wedding research hat and pulled out my laptop.
Here are some ideas I liked:

a wedding processional/recessional comprised of many people — including a combination of bridal party and family members — with specific roles in the ceremony
Grabbing an aisle seat gives you the best view of the aisle fleet during the processional and recessional.

but they’re really not as slow as everyone thinks!)
Yes, I have a tiny family. And yes, our wedding party is small-to-medium-ish. But our processional? That bad boy’s gonna be pretty big!

When I made a trip home in July, we found that our caterer’s food and demeanor was not up to our standards after all, and scrambled to find a new caterer who rocked. Luckily, we did just that and couldn’t be happier with Jody’s Pantry Catering.
Last weekend I went home again, and like the first trip, I encountered a huge unexpected bump in the road. I was going to be in Cleveland the last day of my visit, so I scheduled to meet with our photographer, primarily so we could meet before the big day and avoid the feeling of, ‘Hi stranger, would you like to take some photographs of me being emotional and getting dressed?’ We arrived to the meeting spot about 45 minutes early, so I called up our photographer to let him know we were there in case he could come sooner.

We’re excited to bring you this interview with Jung Lee, founder of the NYC based, luxury event planning firm Fete. You may have seen her featured on Whose Wedding is It Anyway? or on her new TLC show, Wedded to Perfection coming this fall! Join us as she shares a glimpse into her hectic life as a top New York City event designer, author, and reality TV star!

1. How did you first become an event designer?
So, up until a few weeks ago, if you’d asked me or Mr. Star what our first dance was, we would have each answered quickly and confidently, “Everything”, by Lifehouse. It’s been one of “our songs” for nearly as long as we’ve been dating and has a very special place in our hearts. It was actually one of the very first wedding decisions we made! We didn’t even really have to discuss it, it was just a given. Lifehouse has always been a band that had a lot of meaning for us, since we used to take naps (hey, naps are obligatory to graduate college) listening to their music and we saw them live on our first anniversary — I even caught the bassist’s pick!
For those of you who don’t know the song, since it isn’t one of their most popular, here it is:
Then, a couple of weeks ago, Mr. Star and I were working on the rest of our reception music so that we could give a list of ideas to our friend who is also a professional DJ and will be our music friendor.

Mr Frenchie is SUPER nervous about our wedding ceremony. He hates public speaking and being the center of attention (one thing we are complete opposites about). Standing in front of all 130 of our guests with all eyes on us is really stressing him out.
Last night we got together to run through our ceremony so he knew exactly when things were happening and when and what he was supposed to do and say. I’m really glad we decided to do this, because I found a section of our service that didn’t sit right with me. At the beginning of the ceremony, under “Welcome & Statement of Marriage” there was this paragraph…
“Marriage is a gift from God given to us as a holy mystery in which a man and a woman are joined together and become one, just as Christ is one with the church.”
I know this is common statement at weddings, but as a supporter of marriage equality, this just didn’t sit right with me. I sat there wondering if I should bring this up to our officiant or just let it slide. The more I thought about it the more I knew I needed to ask her to change it. I was a little nervous to make waves so close to our wedding, but I love Leanne, and I knew she would take my feeling and beliefs into consideration regarding this issue, whether or not she agrees with me.
So, I called up Leanne this afternoon and asked her if we could change it to read…

So, back in March, when my parents came to visit, we went to the Houston Heritage Society to check out their event places. I dreamed of getting married at the St. John Chapel, a quaint little chapel where you can ring the bell as you exit, and having a reception on Conally Plaza, the outdoor space next to the chapel with lovely, big oak trees:

I love the juxtaposition of the historical chapel with the ultra modern downtown skyline.
During my dress fitting a little while ago, I indulged Mama Lightning by trying on a traditional white veil. However, looking back on those pictures I can’t help but feel that I was overpowered by it. My dress is so unique that I sort of feel that a traditional white veil actually hides its silver beauty. And so, I have decided to either look for something else, or go sans veil.

My last post gave you a preliminary look at our wedding playlist–from cocktail hour, to dinner, to breaks between band sets, and to our dance party. I combed through the suggestions all of you mentioned and surfed the ’net a little more and definitely came across a few winners. By my drive home from work, I had to turn the radio off; I’d listened to so many songs on YouTube by then.
In case you were wondering which of your suggestions made the cut (or if you’re just wanting some inspiration for your own playlist), here are our additions to the music of the night (yes, that’s a Phantom of the Opera reference)…
