Our fingers are sore but we can finally say we have made enough poms to decorate our chapel! Yay! We still have to make a million more, but at least the chapel is checked off. Our plan is to ship them to PA folded, and fluff them out before the big day.
So far, our chapel’s coordinator has found all of our plans for the wedding to be very strange. Like asking for a random half hour outside the church to do first looks early in the day. Or even dreaming of playing recorded music instead of live music in the chapel. I can imagine when she sees that I wrote “making paper poms” under floral arrangements, she’ll be raising her eyebrows!

Things aren’t always as you predict. I’m just learning this now. I’m an optimistic person by nature, so when we sent out our 64 invitations to a total of 145 people, I figured our head count numbers would settle in somewhere between 90 and 100. That’s a low 62-68% of our guest list checking the “accepts with pleasure” box.

Just a reminder of where that lil’ stamped card goes

Take into account the fact that our wedding is a destination wedding for, oh, 99.9% of our guests.

When I became engaged, I found myself trying to stay afloat in a whole new pool that I had never been in before: Wedding Planning. Eek. I was totally out of my element. But with a long engagement planned, I figured I had long enough to figure this whole wedding planning thing out. It’s just like planning a super duper party, right???
Of course, I turned to the web for help and suggestions, and pretty early on, I found myself being drawn into Weddingbee. But unlike those bees who dove right in, I lurked and lingered. I ate up all the posts, but very rarely commented.
At about nine months before the wedding, Mr. Peep started school four nights a week and I felt like I had all of these questions and decisions to make and no one to really bounce ideas off of. Sure, my family is super supportive, but I didn’t think anyone could love me enough to listen to my own personal drama associated with everything wedding.
I also started to really relate to a few of the new bees in the hive and I became a bit jealous that they got picked to tell their story… yep, Snappy, Powder Puff, Taffy, Meatball - I am talking about you!

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I wrote a few months ago about wanting an “alternative” dance party. Although I still feel very strongly about not playing all the cheesy, tried and true wedding “classics” such as “YMCA” and “Brick House”, I’ve definitely compromised a bit. I’ve thrown in a ton of catchy pop songs in order to maximize dancing. Keep in mind, I’m not expecting much of the older crowd to dance a lot. Most of them probably wouldn’t dance, no matter what we play.
At any rate, here is our “Dance Party” playlist. Feel free to use any or all of it as inspiration! Oh, here’s one tip: the Dude applied for a credit card that gives him free iTunes gift cards as an incentive for using the card. We were able to use the free gift cards to purchase some of the songs we didn’t already own!
Mama Chick and I were discussing how to make the cupcake holders this morning, so I did a little research.
Here’s what I came up with:
We can buy these paper ribbons and somehow affix them to the bottoms of the cupcakes. How? With hot glue? Or spray glue? I think spray glue would look neater and it would all stay better, as well. We could cut out two circles for the bottom and sandwich the paper ribbon between the circles. I will experiment and take pictures!
The Etsy shop of A Bohemian Market has these great paper ribbons that come in white. Unfortunately, their store was on vacation, so I couldn’t get a picture of the exact ribbon I want. Thanks to Miss Apple Cider, I was able to get a couple of pictures in other colors so you can get an idea!

Mjsandiego is selling a pair of Nicole Miller earrings from the 2009 Spring Bridal Collection. They are silver with CZ stones. The circle is 1 3/8″. Her asking price is $130.

I’ve been searching for bridesmaids dresses for a while now. I went back and forth between colors that I wanted, and I finally decided on grey. Not boring grey though; they will all look gorgeous. I’m planning to let all the girls pick their own dresses. I want all my girls to feel and look their best. The good thing about choosing grey is that it crosses seasons, so they won’t have to buy something right now. The color will still be around in summer, fall, and winter. Here are some that I like:
In the early dark ages of my wedding planning, I found and fell in love with our great cake topper. Remember? I also developed the escort cards that will nestle into bed of wheatgrass at the reception, as you might recall.
However, one topic I haven’t touched on are our table numbers. How are our cake toppers involved in this topic, you ask? Well, I decided that we couldn’t just have our cute little cake toppers have such a short life. The mini Stilettos needed their time in the limelight. So, when I ordered our toppers, I asked Goose Grease to not attach our mini mes to the round base - we needed to be able to move them around for a little photo shoot (we’ll glue them onto the base ourselves before the wedding).
Oh yes, you heard me correctly. We let our wooden selves work it for the camera, and through this, are able to share bits and pieces of ourselves and our lives together with our wedding guests.
These are the final pictures we’re getting developed. Mr. S added numbers to them using Adobe Illustrator.

We wanted to have our pup Charlie in one shot. We assumed this would be quite tricky as he can be rather, err, rambunctious, but as soon as we set the toppers onto the floor, Charlie started posing for the camera. I kid you not. You would have thought we had sat him down beforehand and explained what was going to happen, with him nodding his head in agreement. Charlie, apparently, is an old pro when it comes to photo shoots.
Our invites were sent out almost a full month ago, but I only got to see them in real life for the first time a little over a week ago! While I was in California for my MOH’s wedding, I had my mom mail me my own copy of our wedding invite. Ladies, it’s a wonderful thing to hold your wedding invitation in your hands.
I had dreamed up the idea for our invitations almost 6 months ago! I knew I wanted the prevailing theme to be fields of lavender and poppies (you could say I have a thing for France), I wanted real pressed lavender, I wanted seed paper, and I wanted it to all be bound up nice & sweet in a little book.
Because I was a bit… particular in what I wanted, I knew the process was going to take a little bit of time, especially long-distance from Chile. Truthfully, making the invitations myself had been one of the things I desperately wanted to do. I wanted to press the flowers myself, I wanted to learn how to screen-print, and I wanted to try my hand at design. At some point I came to the realization that that wouldn’t be possible from South America - I couldn’t get the supplies in time, I didn’t have the equipment (or the resources) to learn new skills, and both US and Chilean customs are a little iffy on importing biological products.
With all this on my mind, I turned to a designer in Eugene, OR who’s still fairly new in the invitation making & letterpress business.

I went in for a second trial and Jeanie was as lovely as ever. On the actual day of, the curls will be set longer so that everything doesn’t just fall out as soon as I take my hair down (which was kind of the case after the trial, thanks to Texas weather). Please note, it is really hard to take pictures of the back of your own head.
I’m going to play around with it a bit between now and the wedding to figure out if I want it all down or if I want some up/some down. (I figured I could just throw in some curlers and try out a few different styles… it won’t be perfect, but it’s better than paying for a third hair trial). Jeanie also suggested that if I decide to trim my hair between now and then, to also add in more layers because it will accentuate the curls.
Remember that hairpiece I was going to work on? This is what it looks like (hmmm, that pomander looks familiar
):

So… you want to be an expert procrastinator like me?
Here’s my 12-step plan for sending out wedding save the dates:
Step 1: Look online for ready-made save the dates. Decide none of them will work. Inform your fiance that you’re going to make your own!
Step 2: Look online for inspiration on making your own save the dates. Repeat this step frequently until you’re completely confused about what you want your save the dates to look like. Remember: If you’re only partially confused, you’re not quite done with this step.
Step 3: Ask your fiance what he thinks. When he’s given you an answer, wait until the next day and ask him again. You know, just in case he may have changed his mind since you last asked.
Step 4: Download a free program from the internet for use in designing your save the dates. Lament the fact that you don’t own Photoshop. Contemplate whether it would be worth it to buy Photoshop just for wedding purposes. Get this idea shot down by aforementioned fiance. Wonder if this is payback for asking him too often what he thinks about save the date designs.

Hey everybody!
I am really enjoying this Bee’s Life series, so I thought I would add my perspective.
HOW I FOUND WEDDINGBEE
Let me say that I have always loved all things wedding. I used to occasionally buy wedding magazines and watched quite a few wedding TV shows like “Who’s Wedding Is It Anyway?”. This was years before meeting Mr. Swan. I didn’t know very much about wedding blogs, but I had already started reading niche blogs because of my other interests. My first real blog obsession was reading real estate blogs, of all things (there’s nothing like reading about condo developments
). Although my profile says something else, I began my career as a real estate lawyer, and in many ways, I still like reading about who’s building what, where, and how (and especially for how much).
Well, when Mr. Swan and I started to get serious, I began wondering about whether there were wedding blogs out there, too. One day, during some work procrastination, I Googled “Brooklyn bride” and the now ubiquitous Brooklyn Bride popped up. Boy, was I hooked. Not only does Vane have a great sense of style, but it was also the pared down, modern style that really resonated with me (Plus, she was representin’ for the BK!). Brooklyn Bride had a ton of links, and I started clicking on them to get a sense of other wedding blogs out there. I actually ignored Weddingbee for a long time because I didn’t really get the title!
(Sorry, Mrs. Bee!) Of course, I finally clicked on the link and then was completely hooked. That was the fall of 2007, and so I have been reading and have been a part of this community for almost two years now. The one time I have had the fortunate chance to meet Mr. and Mrs. Bee, Mr. Bee promptly told me that I am like a Weddingbee Encyclopedia since I can recall random Bee posts from years past. I guess my little knack comes from all of my time here as a lurker, to community member, to blogger. I’ve been here a LOOOONG time.
