::::peeking out from my nest::::
I know I’ve been a bad little birdy and I’m so sorry! Things have been pretty busy around the Lovebird nest and I’m finally coming up for some air. Mr. Lovebird’s on call tonight so I finally have a chance to blog! Oh Weddingbee, how I’ve missed you!

Now where were we? Oh yes…
So after the blooper that occurred in my previous post, it was pretty much smooth sailing from there.
I got my bling.
My dress, if you’ll recall, came with a black ribbon sash. After receiving it, I did state that I wanted to get a green one. And then I stuck the dress in my closet and did nothing with it for most of the summer.
Finally, a few weeks back, I bought some “spinach” colored taffeta. And finally, two nights ago, I sewed me a sash.
Here’s my dress looking all naked without its sash.

And here are my supplies.

“Nom. Nom. Nom.” That’s my new favorite phrase as of late on Weddingbee. It’s been showing up in almost every post about food, from any bee, and that’s why I had to use the ubiquitous phrase here today. Because I want to talk about pie. Soooo, nom, nom, nom.
Apple Pie with Cheddar Crust from Martha Stewart
We’ve placed our pie bar order with Teacup Bakery out of Denver. Twelve all-organic, all-natural pies. Ten flavors. That’s right.

For months I’ve been hiding the gift that I’ll give Mr. S on the wedding day. I’ll tell you what it is after the wedding, but to give you a couple of hints, it is photography-related and very popular right now! Since he’s a photographer, I don’t want to mention it and chance him finding it when searching about this “thing” online.
Since the gift has been squared away for so long, I’ve been stewing over the card that I’ll write in to pour my heart out to Mr. S on the morning of our wedding. I love giving him cards and finding just the right one, and he saves them all. In fact, at my bridal shower we played a game where Sister Stiletto had asked him in secret various questions about our relationship, and I was tested to see whether our answers matched. When asked about one of my best qualities in our relationship, Mr. S said how I’m always doing thoughtful things for him, including last summer when I took a 10-day trip to Italy with my family and strategically hid cards all around our apartment for him to find while I was gone.
So… the wedding day card is very important! Am I witty, sappy or sentimental? I’ve scoped out some favorites from Etsy…

I consider myself Mr. S’s biggest fan, especially as he’s growing his business (I’m so proud of him!!).

Mr. Bear Cub isn’t exactly a tuxedo kind of man. And that’s OK - I love him for it! I want him to be comfortable on his wedding day; I want him to take pride in what he wears. You know, just so long as it’s nice.
He usually wears whatever he grabs first out of his drawer (of crumpled t-shirts), and usually the clothes that fill the drawer were bought by either his mom (several years ago) or me (now). He just can’t be bothered with shopping for himself, unless it involves Gore-Tex or eVent material, high-performance wool, or anything found for a steal at an REI scratch-and-dent sale. That’s Mr. Bear Cub’s style, and I love him! That makes it a lot easier for me to find his wedding day attire.
He’s a practical guy - being able to wear these clothes after the big day is important.
At first I imagined him in a dark brown suit for the wedding, but then I saw this:
When Mr. D and I first started talking about marriage, weddings, and rings, we went shopping together to see what was out there. I’d try on a few rings here or there, trying to figure out what we both liked best. I’m not much for surprises, and he wanted to be sure we both loved the ring because we’ll both have to look at it for a long time.
One day we decided to go on a mammoth ring shopping excursion. We had ordered a few rings in from Tiffany’s in the sizes and designs we liked, but hadn’t heard a call from them yet. So we went to Mayors, and a few other places in Coral Gables, trying on rings as we went. Mayors was having an event with multiple settings and multiple loose diamonds… but none of the Asscher cuts my heart had been set on. Mr. D and I were both having a difficult time imagining the settings with a mystery stone. Plus at the time, overweight and in the heat of Miami; my fingers were big. So shoving size 6 rings on and off my finger (for literally hours) was much less fun than I anticipated.
Plus, there is just something about jewelry stores that makes me break out into a sweat. I have no clue why, but I just feel under so much pressure! I was sweaty, hungry and in pain when we decided to take a break and grab lunch. Because if there is one important fact to know about me, it’s this - don’t let my blood sugar drop. At least if you want to stay friends with me. Otherwise, you might disown me and my low blood sugar snappy comments.

I’m so confused. Is it August or April? I mean, seriously — enough with the rain! It’s in the forecast every. single. day. And it’s so humid I’ve abandoned trying to do anything with my hair. Ponytails and sloppy buns are my new specialty.
Messy hair’s fine for the next couple of weeks. But if these showers linger long enough to “attend” our wedding, I want to ensure my ’do stays in place — and my dress looks as pristine as possible.
So I started searching for cute rainwear.
I *LOVED* these boots, but wasn’t as crazy about their price. After having issues finding them in my size, I started wondering what type of umbrella I would be able to find to complement them.
LP2121 posted this photo of these cute and elegant miniature topiaries used to hold placecards.

My one regret about the rehearsal dinner was that it was too short.
At 7:45, we jumped in a cab and headed over to the fantabulous Coco500 for our rehearsal dinner.

The restaurant was closed just for us!!
I can’t describe how it feels to walk into a room full of your favorite people. It was a party with all the coolest people we know.

We’ve recently started to gather props and supplies for our “faux”tobooth! I was in Paper Source this past weekend for something totally unrelated, when I came across these chalkboard prints! At $6.95 a piece, I had to have them! We’ll mount them on some foam board and they’ll be ready to write on!
Our vintage retrospective wedding wouldn’t be complete without a little mod to match the oldies rock and roll music we’ll be playing at the wedding. One of these boards was inspired by the beautiful film Breathless by Jean Luc Godard, which I studied at university. If you haven’t watched it, you should. Ah, another theme to add to my list. It seems I can’t help myself. ![]()

I have a pretty large bridal party: 5 bridesmaids (it used to be 6, but one moved to Ohio and had to relinquish her duties), 3 flower girls (1 is more of an “honorary” FG because of her age), and 2 junior bridesmaids.
I chose to have so many flower girls and junior bridesmaids because they are all my nieces. I just felt like it wouldn’t be right to choose one or two over the rest, ya know?
At least with lots of cute kids running around, I’ll have adorable photos like this one:
When I was a child, my first name was the bane of my existence.
People kept adding extra syllables to it. Or realizing that the last syllable of my name rhymes with “sneeze”.
I tried to correct the people who actually meant to say my name properly, but it would only work for a few days at a time. Then they would inevitably segue back into some horrible bastardization.
Of course, I was far too embarrassed to correct them a second time. This meant that some of my childhood friends said my name wrong for years. Um, okay, it’s possible they still do.
So, yes, I was an adult before I came to terms with having a super-unusual name. But now I kind of like it. It’s not like I’ll ever run into anyone else in the room with the same name. And I get to be a little bit mysterious, which is kind of fun.
It also goes together rather well with my last name. Together, my whole name sounds pretty solidly Indian (although my first name is not really an Indian name but a derivation of Persian name).
I never considered changing my last name at all until I got engaged. Now I’m still pretty lukewarm about the idea.
