Where we left off in the story, Mr.DD and I were engaged!
Well, sort of anyway. There was still another engagement to pull off. One that required a little more preparation on my part…
First up was a test run with the mehndi (henna) artist we’re planning on using for the wedding.

Didn’t she do a great job?
Vsyren17 is selling her Oleg Cassini wedding dress in a size 4. The dress is satin with a cinched bust and a beaded lace bodice. She is asking $600.

You may remember my post about booking our honeymoon cruise with Cozumel on the itinerary and then almost as fast as you could say “Swine Flu” the planned stop was canceled. Well, to our delight, about a week before our departure, Royal Caribbean (and some other cruise lines) decided to reinstate all ports of call for Eastern Mexico. And wouldn’t you know that our cruise ship, The Enchantment of the Seas, was the first one to arrive in Mexico following the Swine Flu outbreak.
As you may have read, Red Robin had a swarm of Bees last week. Yes, swarm, there were 14 of us! Can you believe it? On a Tuesday?
There were burgers, french fries, lemonades and I think I even saw a milkshake! Our waitress was SO excited to be serving a table of brides… she brought us 2 complimentary mudslides at the end of the meal. Forget my wedding dress, I dug right in!
How beautiful are Weddingbee brides!?!?!

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
The reason we had decided to get ready in Manhattan was so that we could take pictures in the city before heading off to our venue in Westchester. I wanted to hit all the quintessential New York photography spots: the majestic Brooklyn Bridge, the cobblestone streets of the Meatpacking District, the tree-lined streets of Greenwich Village, the edgy backdrop of TriBeCa… we wanted it all.
In the end we decided to play it safe with time and decided on just one spot: Central Park (with Grand Central station as a backup, just in case it rained).
After doing some research, we discovered that certain locations in Central Park - such as the breathtaking Conservatory Garden - require a photography permit. Ever the lazy bum, I purposely chose a location that does not require a permit: The Pond, located at Central Park South between Fifth and Sixth Avenues…
(All photos by Danny Weiss)
We arrived at Central Park in style. I tried my best not to trip as we traversed the crowds. Many people shouted congratulatory words and wished us well. However, it being New York, there were also the occasional “Don’t do it!”s.
Well, we’re now less than two months out and I have to say, we’re down to a less-than-fun to-do list.
I’ve been doing things like getting the event insurance our venue requires (I used WedSafe, if anyone’s interested!) and making sure all of our groomsmen actually made it into Men’s Wearhouse to get measured for their tuxes.
Every time I turn around, I feel like we need more paperwork done or more legwork ironed out, and I’m getting burned out on the tasks that aren’t any fun.

I feel like this lady

My very long list of things to do includes a lot of items for our ceremony, including décor, programs, etc. However, nowhere on that list was actually writing the ceremony. Mr. Cloud and I were both born and raised Catholic, and preparing to have a full Catholic mass with our ceremony left me to assume we would just be told what to say and where to stand. I’ve been to and in quite a few other Catholic weddings, and I had never seen anyone get to choose or customize any part of the actual ceremony. Readings in the mass maybe, but the ceremony was pretty set.
Imagine my surprise (and stress) when at our final meeting with our priest last weekend, he started asking us about how we wanted the ceremony. Most of it is still set, but with options. For example, we have a few different sets of vows to choose from. And we were given a packet of readings and suggestions for the prayers of the faithful, but were told we could personalize or change them how we saw fit!
We have decided to go pretty traditional in most things, including changing very little from the ceremony’s wording. Not only is it one less thing to worry about (trust me, I would think this one to death if given the opportunity), but it is nice to think that we will be hearing the same words our parents and grandparents heard before us. The vows however, are a different matter. We have to choose. Originally, Mr. Cloud had his heart set on saying our own unique vows. Our church and priest may be flexible, but not that flexible. Instead, they gave us a few options to choose from. We can add on to these a bit, or just go word for word with what has been provided.
The first options would be repeated after the priest.

So, the fitting went quite well in person (the dress is almost finished), and I even toyed with the idea of a long veil for the ceremony only (as seen above), which my mom loved. It all looked great at the dressmaker and I took my new accessories with me to see how they work with the dress. I took some pictures and went on my way.

I would like to temporarily interrupt this recap “broadcast”… not that I’m really interrupting, seeing as I haven’t posted in… umm… well, who’s counting?! Anyway, I’m interrupting my recaps to post about our “at home reception” (AHR), although I’d like to think of it as more of a casual summer BBQ than a reception.
You are cordially invited!

I didn’t talk much about the AHR because I didn’t plan it. Nope, my dadders did. Thank goodness! I was (and still am) fried out from planning. Well, I did add a few things, but Daddy Sushi handled all the logistics; he handled the guest list, rented the tent, tables and chairs, and ordered the food. He is wondrous!

There’s an awesome PRO blogger in the hive - Llubav Choy Duerr. I just loveee her work! So, weeks ago, I saw her flower ring pillow, and I thought this could be an awesome way to add more color to my BMs’ gifts! I’ll share the actual gifts later.

… so join me, Miss Labrador, tomorrow night on BeeTV!
I’ll be working on the last of my flower projects with a protein shake in hand (gotta cut back on the wine as the big day approaches!). I’ll also be ready to answer all your fitness questions! And if you’re lucky, you might just get a glimpse of my three fur babies!
The day started for us at 7:45AM. As always, I hit snooze on my alarm a few times and finally rolled out of bed. Yes, folks, I slept pretty darn soundly the night before our big day! This Ballet Flat was tired and sleep is always welcome!
The hair/makeup people were scheduled to show up at 8:30, so it was no rush to brush my teeth and tie my hair back. Ahh… it was so convenient to have them come to my parents’ house!
Momma Ballet Flat was already awake scrambling eggs (scramble bambles as we always call them!) and taking orders! No, my mom isn’t my personal cook, but she knew I probably would forget to eat and likes to constantly inform her children that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Hilariously, Daddy Ballet Flat woke up and started mowing the lawn. I guess the Ballet Flat household needs pretty, cut grass on such an important day.
As soon as they showed up, they were ready to transform our crazy, fresh-out-of-bed selves into, well, some hotties!

Mr. Mary Jane and I are definitely going to send marriage announcements. Marriage announcements usually take the form of a fairly simple card that lets friends and family know that the couple “took the plunge” and “tied the knot”.
The problem? Everything I’ve read (including The Knot) says that you’re supposed to send your announcements on the day of, or the morning after your wedding. But we really want to incorporate one of Shawna Noel’s sure-to-be drool-worthy photos in to the announcement design. And it’ll probably take her at least a few weeks (or more) to edit them for us.
So what are we to do? The etiquette-oriented bride would create the announcements without using a photo. This is the proper thing to do because it ensures that the announcements will be delivered when they’re supposed to be delivered.
But who ever said I was proper? I want to wait for our photos, dammit! So wait I will. I ran this by FMIL too, and she said she didn’t think most people would notice if the announcement was a little late. Aside from brides and those directly involved in wedding planning, most people don’t really pay attention to stuff like what date the announcements were sent, or whether the envelopes were hand-written. In the grand scheme of a marriage, what’s a month? We’ll still be freshly-married in October. Definitely still worth announcing.
Meanwhile, I figure I will try to get the rough design hammered out prior to the photos being ready.
