Remember way back, when I was wishing and hoping for a certain pair of shoes? I basically had given up on the search. I couldn’t find the shoes for a decent price and many stores weren’t even carrying them anymore. I had begun a new search for “the shoe.”
I recently had my birthday and went down to visit my family in San Diego for the weekend. Imagine my surprise when I was handed a lovely green box with the words Kate Spade across the top. Opening the box, I squealed with delight to find my dream shoes inside! My family had gone out of their way to surprise me and I was thrilled.
So it’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted. I know I’ve left readers hanging on how I eventually found my bridal glow—just in time to walk down the aisle, I might add. And I started Part One of the Pre-Wedding Week Frenzy Recaps. I promise everything is coming soon—including the highly anticipated recaps (well, at least I am highly anticipating them!!).
The reason for my absence? Well, we been moving. And right now I am surrounded by a lot of this:

I was so excited to mail our invitations a couple of weeks back, and starting the day after we sent them, we’ve received two response cards each day! I love seeing those little envelopes show up in the mail… and, our guests have really gotten into the Madlibs aspect of our response cards, so we’ve had some fun responses.
I thought I’d share some of the standout cards… the last line of the card says:
Don’t forget to ________ [advice] after you _______[advice]!
In retrospect, we wish we had set up our cards differently so that everyone would fill this out, regardless of whether or not they’re attending (right now, this is for those who can’t make it). Fortunately, our guests are having fun filling this line out whether or not they’re attending!
Card #1 - Life Advice
From my dad’s cousin and his wife - “Don’t forget to brush your teeth after every meal!” Sound advice if you ask me!
One month from now, I will be walking down the aisle to meet my groom. It is kind of surreal to me how fast time has been moving lately. It seems like Mr. M proposed just last week, but it’s been over a year now! This engagement has been one of the most fun and exciting times for us as a couple, and also one of the most stressful times, trying to juggle all of the wedding planning along with our normal lives. Speaking of stress… I’m beginning to feel it. I have a few too many items to finish in the next 31 days, and I’m praying that somehow I’ll be able to put everything together.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I’ve been meaning to address this issue for quite a long time. I wrote the post below the day we got our marriage license, a week before our wedding. But, before I published it, we hit a roadblock that has kept me from publishing it since. You may remember 2 days before the wedding, I mentioned we had our first pre-wedding crisis. Well, c’est ca, yo!
I’m posting about it, in large part because it’s an issue I’m hearing more and more couples talk about, and I hope my story will help from a practical standpoint. I’m writing about it, in small part to address some of the emotional issues involved (both yours and mine), which is equally important to consider.
So, rather than retelling the whole story, we’re going back in time and reliving the first half here, as written in that moment, unedited. Stay tuned for the conclusion, written from today’s perspective.
And away we go….

We left our story last with this handsome man waiting to view his bride for the first time.

Hark! There she is, rounding the bend!

We chose our beautiful venue after my parents lunched at Pure, a refurbished restaurant in Hout Bay, one summer’s day back in February (the hottest month of the year here). They had been talking about it ever since it was featured in a local leisure magazine and were therefore convinced it would be the best place for our future nuptials. In fact, they were so settled on the venue that I think they would have booked it there and then. To ease their excitement we visited Pure, the restaurant of Hout Bay Manor, that weekend, in hopes of ending our fruitless venue search (Cape Town is known for its vineyard wedding destinations and as a result, it’s a little overdone and also a little hard to find something unique).

Ahh, the details. I hated planning the big things about the wedding, but when it came to bathroom baskets and scrapbooks and pretty menus, I wanted as many personal details as possible. Unfortunately, I really didn’t have the time (or the money) to do everything I wanted to do, but I was happy with the few things that we were able to fit in. Here are some of the details that Cly Creation captured for us. I was really excited when I saw these pictures, because to tell you the truth, I never asked them to pay attention to the details.

First off thanks so much for all the love and support that has been sent my way this past week! I really appreciate it more than you know! These past few days have been a whirlwind of events that have left me happy, excited, exhausted, overwhelmed, but most of all grateful! I am so grateful for the wonderful support I have from my friends, family, and blogging community… without all of you I could never have made my dream come true and I am forever grateful for all your thoughts and prayers.
This first weekend open was so much fun and so much work! I was lucky enough to have so many friends and family stop by along with wedding industry friends and blog readers! Mary from SoCal Weddings did such a nice feature on me on Jay’s Catering Blog, so a lot of the photo credit goes to her… thanks!
Well let’s start the photo madness….first off, custom cupcake picks made just for yours truly from Posh Paperie!
**Also the Grand Opening Party has been CHANGED to Sunday, August 16th…we hope to see you there!

Here are a couple detail shots of the shop!
With the preparations pretty much close to being done and things beginning to move closer towards the wedding, I feel like I’m in a bit of a holding pattern here. I don’t really feel like I can resume life as I know it just yet because I feel like I’ve got to put any extra energy I have towards finalizing the wedding planning. At the same time, I’m daydreaming. Oh yes, I’m daydreaming about a time when I will not have to travel for work OR have to partake in any wedding planning. This process has been a lot of fun for me, but I am definitely ready to move on. So, what am I looking forward to taking up or restarting?
1) Knitting - I think I am going to take up knitting. FMIL Swan has given me my own little starter kit, and I am excited to take a beginners’ class at a local knitting shop. Perhaps knitting will let me get over my DIY insecurities? Any knitters out there care to give any tips to a beginner?

Kitty Sunbeam is no stranger to her carrying case. Here we are on her first excursion to the park. We weren’t sure she could handle it at first, since she is a true scaredy cat, but she did come out a few times to explore the world!
She’s also pretty needy, following us around constantly and whining to be played with. She even sleeps on my chest at night and is not yet good with strangers. We’ve gone out of town once for five days since she became part of the family. Friends stopped by to check on her now and then and told us she spent most of her time in hiding. It broke my heart! How can you leave this little face behind and not feel guilty?

I feel like I’m back in school again – I paid attention all semester and completed assignments on time, yet I still find myself cramming for the final… I mean, the wedding. I’m not dreading it, I’m excited – I know I’m prepared; but I can’t stop studying. And by studying, I mean planning/preparing/DIYing, because I know I can ACE this bad boy. Mr. Gloss, on the other hand, is totally fine taking a ‘C’ I think – he’s been slacking on the wedding duties (not that he was ever that involved
). He just wants to be married, and we are both at the point of ‘I can’t wait for this to be over’. If he only knew what he was getting himself into, I’m not so sure he would’ve put that ring on my finger.
After the rehearsal Friday afternoon, my planning period will be officially over – I’m going to enjoy the rehearsal dinner and the wedding day I’ve put so much time and effort into. I want to laugh with my family and friends despite the fact that it will most likely rain and we are getting married outside… on a boat. In the end, only I will notice if things don’t get done. We bought enough alcohol to erase any bad memories (i.e. a soaking wet ceremony and/or reception site).
