I find any excuse I can to craft something and am completely infatuated with the 1950’s, all things Kennedy, and my furbaby Vida.
This post has been a tough one to write. Every detail up until this point in the day was crystal clear in my memory. However, outside of bits and pieces and flashes here and there, the moments before the ceremony as I walked down the aisle with my father are a bit of a blur. Thus, I’m going to let the photos speak for themselves (for the most part)…

Welcome our newest bee, who now represents our newest country: South Africa! Say hello to Miss Lightning, coming to us all the way from Cape Town!
Miss Lightning, Cape Town Age & Occupation: 22, Journalist and Graphic Designer Fiance’s Age & Occupation: 23, Computer Scientist Engagement Date: December 27, 2008 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Hout Bay Manor About Me: I’m a young American living abroad in the beautiful city of Cape Town with a wonderful South African fiance and our crazy kitty Zeus. We’re young, driven and madly in love. Together we’re pursuing our wildest dreams including our biggest undertaking yet, a vintage retrospective wedding filled to the brim with DIY madness. I have an unnatural attraction to cake, a passion for blogging and a love of good design. While I might be an overly obsessive creative with too many ideas and nowhere to put them, Mr Lightning is my biggest fan and I can’t wait to make my true love mine.
Mrs. Sunbeam, San Francisco/Grove City, PAAge and Occupation: 26, Grad Student & Office ManagerFiance's Age and Occupation: 27, Motion DesignerEngagement Date: May 10, 2008Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: Harbison Chapel & The Maple Lane FarmAbout Me: Mr. Sunbeam and I are high school sweethearts. We both come from a small town in PA but are growing to love the California lifestyle. He loves wine and I love cheese... the perfect combination! When I'm not drooling over wedding blogs, I'm attending grad school, out being a foodie, or attempting to "walk" our cat at the park. Two things guaranteed to excite me are wedding cakes and breaking out my suitcase to travel. Mr. Sunbeam and I are personalizing our hometown wedding to celebrate our high school sweetheart status and PA roots with a few CA touches. After ten years of dating we couldn't be more excited to call each other husband and wife!
The story of Mr. Sunbeam’s ring, in his own words. “On the one year anniversary of our engagement I was surprised with a ring of my very own.
A few months back we looked around for our wedding bands, at the time it was just another thing to cross off the list. I am by no means a man of sparkle and fancy, so I was never that excited to pick out a piece of mannery. However, our first visit to the jeweler was promising. I saw a ring I liked, maybe enough to wear for the rest of forever. The problem was, it was just out of our price range, so we left the store without it.
Mrs. Sprinkle, Los AngelesAge and Occupation: 26, Preschool Teacher
Fiance's Age and Occupation: 30, Television Production/WriterEngagement Date: December 24, 2008Wedding Date: September 2009Venue: The Marvimon HouseAbout Me: I'm a Bay Area native trying to create a life for myself (and my fiance, and our three cats!) in the vast city of Los Angeles. I love vegan red velvet cupcakes, pilates ,and mid-century furniture. Mr. Sprinkle and I met when my band toured through his city (we bonded over cake and a mutual love of Morrissey) and we are getting married on the four year anniversary of our first date. When I am not teaching preschool (or blogging!) you can find me perfecting recipes, petting kittens, hiking in Griffith Park, and overusing exclamation points. We are planning a vegan, green-as-possible, DIY wedding, and I couldn't be more excited to share all of the details!

Mrs. Star, New York CityAge and Occupation: 22, ActressFiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Casting AssistantWedding Date: October 2009Venue: Ceremony: The Kraine Theatre, Reception: Midtown Loft & TerraceAbout Me: I’m a professional actress who’s always had New York City in her blood and I'm finally getting the chance to make a home in Manhattan with my fiancé, my dog, and my big dreams! I love polka dots, craft projects, Dunkin’ Donuts’ iced coffee, and anything sparkly. I’m having a blast planning our elegant/dramatic/New York City/acting-themed/largely-DIY wedding and am thrilled to be the youngest current Miss Blogger!
My dream way back before Mr. Star and I even started dating was to get married in this chateau, Le Chateau Chambord. My MOH and I visited the castle on our whirlwind three-week tour of France during college and it has always enchanted me. They do hold weddings there, but I fear to inquire about the cost.
I almost went ahead with trying to plan a small, destination wedding there way back when we first got engaged. Read more…
Mrs. Cowboy Boot, Santa FeAge and Occupation: 25, Magazine EditorFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Artist and Whitewater Rafting GuideEngagement Date: April 28th, 2008Wedding Date: October 2009Venue: Devil's Thumb Ranch, ColoradoAbout Me: I grew up in Los Angeles and have since lived in San Diego, Boston, Italy, Hawaii, New York City, and Santa Fe. I speak Italian and love pasta. My real passion is the outdoors, though. When I'm not at work, I'm snowboarding, hiking with my two dogs, mountain biking, surfing, cross-country-skiing, or boating New Mexico's rivers. Despite my boyish love for adventure, I'm a girly-girl at heart and am overly-excited to pull off the romantic, vintage-inspired, country wedding of my dreams.
I debated for quite a while before doing it. The time had come to mail my invitations. Should I skip over to the post office on my lunch break or wait until the weekend when there is no time limit? I was zig-zagging between hand-canceling my invitations and just handing them over.
I pulled up to the post office, 45 minutes left until I was supposed to be back at my desk, stuck a few quarters in the meter and made my way inside. My invitations were all stamped. I’d taken them to two post offices prior to make sure the postage pricing was correct. $1.39 sounded like too much the first time but indeed, it was the same at the second post office. I could’ve easily dumped them in the big blue bin on the sidewalk since they were stamped, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it.
Mrs. Piglet, Virginia/OahuAge and Occupation: 28, ConsultantFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Entrepreneur/Fashion Apparel Wholesale ImporterEngagement Date: June 22, 2008Wedding Date: August 2009Venue: Ceremony at the Lanikuhonua Phase II private estate, reception at a historic hotel in WaikikiAbout Me: I'm an East Coast gal with intense road rage and an addiction to romantic comedies, fast food, gadgets, Korean BBQ, and my wiener dog George aka Georgia May. I carry mustard packets in my purse and I love perusing the aisles at discount stores. A self proclaimed shopaholic, I impulsively buy electronics, software, and craft tools; none of which I know how to use. I'm excited to dust
these babies off and immerse myself in DIY projects galore in
preparation for our DW in paradise!
The Piglets are getting married! Time surely flies. It seems like only yesterday that we made the decision to have our wedding in Hawaii. But here we are, 14 months later, surrounded by our closest friends and family… overwhelmed with the love and support of everyone.
Mrs. Labrador Retriever, Athens/SavannahAge and Occupation: 24, Student/Sports ReporterFiance's Age and Occupation: 29, Physical Therapy Assistant Student/Future Dr. of PT
Engagement Date: December 31, 2008Wedding Date: November 2009Venue: Whitfield Square/Savannah StationAbout Me: I'm working on my second degree from UGA (Go Dawgs!). I'm a self-proclaimed attention-w****. If it involves a camera, I'm in front of it! You'll never meet a girlier tomboy than me. I can go toe to toe with any guy on the subject of college football, and lift more than any girl in my gym, all without chipping a nail. I hope to someday be the only person you want delivering your sports news. My FI and I are the loving parents of three Labrador Retrievers (one of each color) and are planning a "Southern Romantic Charm" wedding in the beautiful, historic city of Savannah. I'm not extreme in anything except moderation... and wedding planning.
I know I left you hanging with my DIY bridal bouquet mock trial. I abandoned that effort for a while after changing our color scheme and deciding to go with a new dusty pink bouquet to match my shoes. I still haven’t found any fake peonies in that color, but in the meantime I’ve been on the lookout for my bridesmaids’ flowers.
I finally ran into some when I wasn’t even looking. I was strolling around the mall looking for a place to get a quick and cheap hair trim when I saw that A.C. Moore was having a huge sale on their florals. As soon as I was finished being groomed, I hightailed it back over to the store and went on a shopping frenzy.

I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
Another Etsy seller to love! As usual, Esty is a never-ending ocean of gorgeous ideas for projects and finds for weddings. I don’t really know how many favorites sellers I have there, but, gosh!! every time I run into cute finds, I drool all over the keyboard.

I’ll admit it: I’ve compiled a lot of DIY “junk” over the course of the past couple years, so I thought I’d take the time to share a few of my favorite places on the web to get the goods.
Paper Mart - A GREAT place to get packaging, and get it in BULK. Wrapping paper, boxes (think gable, OOT bags/boxes, favor boxes, jewelry boxes for boxed invites), tissue paper, ribbon - they’ve got it all, and my experience with the quality has always been great. I used to work for a high end baby gift shop to the stars in college, and my boss got all her supplies here. I’ve never since strayed.
HJK Imports - This is where I go for bulk vases. They’re located in SF, so West Coasters benefit from relatively cheap shipping prices (considering how large the packages of vases are).
iDIY - Wedding freebies. This amazing blog not only showcases great DIY projects, but also finds the best vectors, fonts, images, and DIY wedding freebies and shares them with the world, so you can create your own great DIY projects. I love it!
PaperSource - I feel stupid for even saying this out loud, because everyone loves PaperSource. It’s by far NOT the cheapest option out there, but ease of coordinating papers and quality make it my go to place for paper. Plus, I live 2 blocks from one, so I don’t have to deal with shipping.
