Future brides—I must tell you that our wedding rehearsal was when I had the, “Oh my gosh I’m a bride!” moment. Because the guests aren’t there. The music isn’t playing. The fancy dresses aren’t there. But you two are. Your closest family and friends are. And the pastor who is going to marry you is there. It’s almost like you could jump the gun and get it all said and done right there… but then… what would the point of having a rehearsal be?
Okay—so enough with the mushy, sentimental goulash. I’m moving on to my next rehearsal topic… what you be wearing?
What do you picture your wedding party wearing? Does it really matter? In the grand scheme of things—it doesn’t. Not at all. But our bridesmaids and groomsmen were dressed so differently from each other that I thought I’d include it in the post.

I am blessed on the wedding front. I was among the first of my friends to get engaged, and dutifully, my family, best friends, and bridesmaids went all-out and provided me with the full “bridal” experience that I was hoping for, but wasn’t necessarily expecting. I really got the “bridal works”. In turn, as my close friends travel their own roads to the altar, I’m more than happy to participate in all their wedding festivities. After all, they all did it for me, and so, without batting an eyelash, I try to participate in as many of their wedding festivities as I can (and at LEAST the minimum of activities that they participated in for me. If a friend made the time to come to my bachelorette, neither hell nor high water would prevent me from going to hers!).
A friend of mine is getting married this weekend, and I’m so excited to travel down to Southern California and reconnect with friends for a few days. I thought about if it was appropriate or not to write this post, because money is always a touchy subject. But I wanted to sit down and document how much money I’ve spent on the wedding festivities surrounding her wedding. I do want to reiterate how this isn’t some kind of jilted guest post—this particular friend participated in all my wedding activities just a year ago. And it seems as if in our busy lives, weddings are really the only events left that get all our friends together in one place at one time anymore. So, for that, no matter the cost, we are grateful!

Gift: $50 (made stationery)
Travel: $35 for rental car that day (I was in town anyway, but required a rental car that day to get from where I was staying to the shower)

There are three main perks to being a preschool teacher:
I work at a small, private preschool, and we are only closed for one week during the summer. I am in the middle of my summer break right now, and finishing up so many wedding related projects. I have run to the craft store three times in less than 48 hours. My next few posts will showcase some finished items.

On discovering the ‘bee…
I found Weddingbee before I got engaged, when I had a girlfriend who was looking for her wedding dress. We had already gone to various boutiques in Chicago, but she had hit a wall on finding “the one”. I was digging around online trying to find new places for us to visit, and I came across Weddingbee and a post by a Chicago Bee (who? I have no clue!) and her dress shopping experience. I thought the site was cool and helpful, but I didn’t dig any deeper… I mean, I wasn’t even thinking of getting married!
Fast forward 6 months when a ring was slipped onto my finger, pushing me deep into planning. I came across ideas online of using a vintage typewriter as a guest book, and we both loved it (and have since changed plans, ha!). Searching for typewriter-themed weddings, I came across Mrs. Lovebug. Swoon. I sat for hours pouring over her planning and recaps and thinking how cool it must be to have your wedding story chronicled in such a way. I started reading the ’bee off and on in the early parts of my engagement.
On blogging…
I had a baking blog for a couple of years before I started my wedding blog. I enjoy it, but I’ve never really found my voice there. Since getting engaged in March of ’08, I was getting completely overwhelmed with everything. So in January of this year, I decided I was going to start a wedding blog and use that as an outlet for saving my sanity. As I started my wedding blog, I kept Weddingbee in mind. What would it take to be one of their bloggers?

Mr. Peony and I both love the Barry White classic My First, My Last, My Everything. While we were not each other’s first loves, we feel that the song’s feel-good celebration of love was a perfect song to be played at our wedding.

It’s not in our budget to have flower centerpieces, and we (I) decided early on that we would do lace vellum luminaries a la Martha Stewart. Click here for DIY instructions.

So many great engagement sessions have been uploaded to the Weddingbee Bios that it’s impossible to pick only one to share! So, here is a sampling of some amazing e-pics that hive members have loaded to their bios lately!
We recently launched a streamlined layout for the frontpage so that it would load faster for readers!

The feedback was great, so we made it the default. We told the Bees that we hoped to see an increase in views and comments, but after going over the data… we realized that traffic to the blog has actually gone down. So we made the painful decision to revert the default back to the expanded frontpage.
But if you prefer the streamlined layout, never fear! We’re leaving it as an option so you can continue to view Weddingbee in the streamlined version.
I am going to make this one short on words but full of portraits. They may not be that exciting to you, but these are our Peeps, so they deserve some attention.
We started off in the lobby of the fabulous Hotel Vitale with the bridal party:
If I had a few more months to go and a few hundred dollars to blow, I’d be decking our wedding out in lace. Over the past few months I’ve seen a lot of lacy little details here and there, and keep imagining how much I want to have them! I mean, decorations centered around my lace dress!? What’s not to love?!
How about a lacy accessory for the ’maids? If I hadn’t given my BMs free range to pick their dresses, I might have said, “make sure you can wear this necklace with your dress!” because I love it.

Mr. Mary Jane and I attended a relative’s wedding this past weekend, and one of the events that transpired got me thinking. See, the couple was afraid that their mischievous friends, siblings and cousins would turn their vehicle in to something like this:
[source]
They didn’t want their car trashed, so they enlisted their parents’ help in transporting them to and from the ceremony and reception. No one wanted to decorate the parents’ cars, of course. So, what were a bunch of well-meaning pranksters to do?

Remember how my first hair trial was more of a rough draft?
Well, I went back for a more formal hair trial that would allow me to see how the style would look on my actual wedding date. That meant that my hair needed to be washed, the roots re-twisted, and then styled. (By the way, I am sure that many of you can’t visualize what I am talking about here, so I’ll post more about a typical hair appointment for me another time.) In other words, I needed a full-out hair appointment.
Unfortunately, my formal hair trial was not the visit that I wanted. I don’t really ask for much when I go to the hair salon. I just want someone to do a good job, not make me wait forever, and not have it cost a ton of money that I don’t have. I just wanted to be able to have some time with my stylist to have some discussion with her and to make sure we were both on the same page. The problem with my appointment: she kinda quadruple booked herself for that time period! I know that I was the first person she booked for that time frame because I made my appointment a week earlier, and she was apparently completely free then! The result was way too much waiting and a very distracted stylist who really had no time to talk to me about what we were going to do.
Anyway, I managed to take a pic or two of the front portion of my hair after she was done.
I don’t look so happy here (I REALLY wasn’t happy).
Did you wonder where I went? Well, last week I basically put our wedding to-do list on hold (including blogging, unfortunately) to get ready to move into our new place! A few weeks ago after we got approved for our lease, Mr. Ducky brought me this cute sign and roses to surprise me with the news. Since then, between the wedding and preparing to move, it’s been a whirlwind.

This is right after Mr. Ducky brought home the good news. Excuse the makeup-less picture. At least I’m real with you all, right?
