So, as you may have noticed by now, I’m Indian and Mr. DD is not.
He’s German-and-Welsh-and-Scottish. Not Indian at all.
This somehow causes everyone we know to immediately imagine we’re going to have some sort of über-Indian wedding. I’m the bride, after all. Shouldn’t my childhood dream wedding win out?
As I mentioned earlier, my family is Ismaili Muslim. That means no mandap, no fire, and no red wedding sari. (Mine is ivory-colored, instead.) So there’s pretty much no way Mr. DD and I would have the Bollywood-style über-Indian wedding of everyone’s dreams, anyway.
And, really, if I had a childhood dream wedding, it was all-American soap opera:
But I’m pretty sure that type of wedding would require Mr. DD to have a strap-on eye patch and me to lose my hearing and my voice and get my hearing but not my voice back before the wedding and then miraculously get my voice back during my wedding vows…
Strangely enough, Mr. DD isn’t quite on board with that.

WHERE WE HAD LEFT OFF:
NOTE: As usual, my recap photos are from a variety of sources. All post-processing has been done by me with each individual’s consent and permission.

Not appreciating my directions, the photographer stalked off. Not appreciating the thousands of dollars wasted on him, I grabbed Mr. Shortcake and pulled him towards my number one wish-list location—the 1950s soda shop. I wiped my furious tears and sniffed at my new husband,
“I don’t care where he goes. I’m going to get a milkshake, whether or not we get photos of us!”
Meanwhile, back at the train station, the photographer had told our bridesmaids to go back and wait in the limo.

So when we last left the Bruschetta wedding favor saga, the mister and I had triumphantly exited the supermarket. Not ten minutes earlier, I was stooping to grab an item off a low shelf, and noticed a box out of the corner of my eye. A picture of delicious-looking popcorn covered the front, and — I know this sounds a little silly — I felt my pulse quicken. (Seriously, this favor situation had been stressing me out big-time!)
My glance fell next on the flavor: Cranberry almond. Damn. Almost immediately, though, I wondered if other varieties existed. I started pawing through the boxes — and almost didn’t believe my eyes when I found the most perfect, purple-accented one. The key ingredients? Chocolate, caramel and pecan.
I hurried off to find Mr. Bruschetta and share my discovery. We agreed to sample the product before committing to purchase one for each of our guests; I tore open the box and ripped into a packet as soon as we’d paid for our items. Was it as delicious as the pricey gourmet sample we had almost ordered? Well, no. But the supermarket version had a more prevalent nutty flavor — thanks to tiny little nut pieces throughout the mixture, instead of just one or two whole nuts per handful. And since the treat isn’t enrobed in chocolate, we wouldn’t have the seasonal concerns (or expensive shipping costs) that would have come with the fancier option. (As one more bonus, the SMARTFOOD popcorn baggies are only 120 calories each, so this selection also reflects our attempts to eat healthy!)
The next day, I returned home from work to find a surprise awaiting me.

Hellooooo ladies! I’ve been a BAD BEE. You’ve not seen hide nor hair of me since my final recap and I have NOT shared with you the photos from our Zihuatanejo honeymoon or any information about it. Well, next weekend is our one-year anniversary and I think it just might be time to relive said honeymoon with all of you wonderful readers.
Recently, I discovered a Seattle charity event for brides that touched my heart and seemed like it would be genuinely useful to the Weddingbee community. I’m sharing with you because it’s for a great cause, and because good deals on high-end wedding goodies might be just what you need!
Here are the deets:
WHO: Well, that’d be you, of course. And other brides-to-be, or anyone who likes a party, really… the goodies up-for-grabs aren’t just limited to wedding or pre-wedding services! Oh! And I’ll be there, too.
WHAT: It’s called Get Hitched, Give Hope, and it’s a one-night event to raise money for Brides Against Breast Cancer & The Making Memories Foundation by offering, at auction and through raffles, fabulous deals on wedding goods and services.

I woke up in my bed, my room, my house for the last time. I was to be marrying my best friend in 1 whole day. I remember waking up the day after Mr. Espresso proposed. My eyes slowly tried to push themselves open and then quickly darted to my left hand to see if the previous night was real. Aww… the ring was there. And then I just stared at it, put my hand under the covers, and then quickly pulled it out again to see if anything had changed.
That’s how I felt on this day. I laid there, looked at my ring, looked around my messily boxed up room, and then looked back down at my left hand. Aww, sweet God, ONE. MORE. DAY.
And the day began.
Throw down some Advil. Try to not feel flu at its peak. Choose: shower or pedicure. Drive to nail salon and pick an OPI color that references our honeymoon spot. Relax in the massage chair. Realize I forgot to buy a garter. Call lovely bridesmaid and ask her to pick up one for me on the way—any color, any style.
Pack up all the vehicles. Caravan up the mountain. Pull into Big Bear Village. Run into North Pole Fudge Co and pay for 160 Caramel Apples. Be astonished by the generosity of staff who offers free delivery. Wonder how sick I actually look. Fiddle with my oily hair. Walk out of the shop and into the crisp fall air. Smell fireplaces going. Smell pine trees. LOVE MY LIFE. LOVE THIS DAY. LOVE MY FIANCE FOR THE LAST DAY.

As another warm and balmy summer begins to fade into a crisp and temperate fall, I thought I’d take all you readers back to the peak of spring here in Southern California. This turn-of-the-season wedding was so special for a number of reasons: 1) the bride met me when she was a bridesmaid in another wedding I coordinated last year. I love direct contact referrals like that!; 2) the photographer, John of John & Joseph Photography, was an out-of-town star I had always wanted to meet; 3) it all took place at Castle Green, the stunning and historic site I wed my own sweetie back in 2005! We were already off to a fabulous start for this event. ![]()
Nisa and Aaron live in Chicago, where they are both physicians. The physical distance coupled with their busy schedules meant we did a lot of coordinating via phone and email. I plan many Southern California soirees for out-of-towners and am always happy to be the “in state” liaison for these couples. It was especially easy in this instance due to my familiarity with her venue.
Right from the start, Nisa was drawn to rich, deep colors like eggplant, fuchsia and burgundy.

… is not making them dress like this:
Okay, Star Bridesmaids! This is your cue to skedaddle if you happen to be reading today.
Peace. Sayonara. Hasta la vista. Ciao.

The song To Sir, With Love is from the soundtrack of a movie of the same name. Released in 1967, we knew that the song would bring back feelings of nostalgia from the older crowd and introduce the younger to a classic favorite.
To Sir, With Love is a tribute to a teacher and mentor who has made a deep impression in the lives of his students. Although it is sung from a female student to a male teacher, we felt that its meaning transcends gender and the student-teacher relationship. We meant it as a thank you to our families and friends for being such an important part of our lives.
To Sir, With Love
Those schoolgirl days of telling tales and biting nails are gone,
But in my mind, I know they will still live on and on.

this necklace!

I realized I didn’t have time to order necklaces online and see which ones worked out, so instead I hit up a local boutique and spotted this cool owl necklace. It’s similar to one of my Etsy inspiration necklaces, so I scooped it up. The cashier was nice enough to find me a longer chain so that it’s compatible with my locket. I like how simple the combo is (the necklaces won’t take away from my dress!), while at the same time it’s a bit quirky.

Hi, Bees! When Pengalicious brought up the idea of a series talking about blogging a la Weddingbee, I was so excited. As several other bees have written… Weddingbee can be a life changer.
Let me start at the beginning.
Way back in October 2008, I had just started to plan my wedding and felt a bit overwhelmed. My family lives in Texas; I live in Chicago… Out of necessity, I was planning this shindig largely on my own and I didn’t know where to start. Several of my friends had recently wed, and unanimously, they all said “You HAVE to read Weddingbee, it’s the best.” One of my friends said it was the only wedding blog she read because the others were so negative and intimidating for an average, normal bride with an average budget.
Well, I took their advice, and I. Was. Addicted. As we all know, once you discover the ’bee, that browser refresh button gets a lot of use. All of the bloggers were so entertaining and had their own personalities. Some were great at DIY, some were so insightful, some were downright hilarious. I loved it! I was SO hooked, that I decided to see if I could become a bee myself…
I started a blog for - let’s face it - the sole purpose of becoming a Bee.

I’m there. I’ve hit the point where I look at my to do list and think, ‘yikes!’ I turned my back on you for one second and you tripled in size! My finals ended Saturday and so my brain power can now be 100% unleashed on to the wedding (outside of work hours, of course!).

Suddenly all the things I planned to do are now must-dos. No excuses. I must decide on the veil. I must order those darn flowers. In the evenings, I no longer have to study so I must work on my DIY projects and stop dreaming up new ones.

I’m stuck. I just can’t seem to find a pair of earrings that wants to work with my accessories, that I like, and that feels unique. In short, I’m looking for a pair of earrings that isn’t necessarily bridal. That said, I also want a pair of earrings that is bridal. Now you’re confused, right? Me too.
Here’s a snapshot of my accessories as they stand now (the floral, silk belt from J.Crew is still pending until I can try it with my dress):
