Sparkling in the Spotlight

September 30th, 2009 @ 6:08 pm by Mrs. Star

Like many other brides before me, I just love the look of a sparkler send-off. I love the drama (of course!), and it makes for such a perfect end to a classy, city light-filled wedding.

So I bought some sparklers off of eBay. But they looked pretty drab, in all their gray loveliness, so I made cutesy little tags to accompany them:

Belly Band

September 30th, 2009 @ 5:34 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

Normally I avoid anything with the word “belly” in it. But, I love invitation belly bands! They are so adorable to me, and a perfect way to wrap up all the important paper in an invitation. I plan to use them for our save the dates to keep the picture magnet on the invitation. Here are some samples of belly bands:

Picturing the Rhyme

September 30th, 2009 @ 4:42 pm by Mrs. Stiletto

We are of course waiting for our fabulous photographer to give us our full disc of wedding photos, but we were lucky enough to see a big blog post from her this week! Since I’m sure the bees who have gone before me would encourage me to wait until I have all of the pictures to then decide how to do my recaps, I shall force myself to wait!

But…

That doesn’t mean I can’t share with y’all my “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”. I didn’t have nice pictures of everything before the wedding to share!

Without further ado…

Something Old

My earrings and necklace were made from vintage chandelier pieces. Aren’t they gorgeous?! Swoon. I can’t rave enough about the fabulosity of Precious Meshes. I also had lace from my mother’s wedding dress as a something old, but I want to wait to share pictures of my bouquet, so you’ll just have to wait for further recaps!

I’m also an English major with a serious obsession with alliteration and rhymes. While I’m not keeping America safe, I’m training for half marathons and the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Or moving for the third time this year. Or baking. Or wedding crafting. Or crying about wedding planning. All the while, I’m getting myself into Lucille Ball-esque scrapes and making Jim Carey-esque faces. Our big fat Czech/Baptist/Jewish/Italian wedding is a combination of vintage eclectic, DIY, and little spoonful of sugar from our Event Coordinator. It’s going to be a Norfolk flavored wedding with the verve of an only-daughter-blow-out bash!

Our Heroine Makes a Choice

September 30th, 2009 @ 4:17 pm by Mrs. Lamb

You may remember that I left our heroine under a spell of self-doubt and inability to make a choice. I am obliged to tell you that there is a happy ending.

Our heroine built her courage and returned the darling pearl shoes, setting her heart on the gorgeous shoes.

Our Heroine Makes a Choice : wedding shoes Shoesc

She is happy to report that her J.Crew Mary Janes were bought on eBay, and with shipping cost, a mere $34.94. The attached shoe clips, which make all the difference, were purchased on Etsy for a total of $12.00, bringing the grand total to a magical price of $46.94. Not too shabby!

Sadly, there is a twist of fate in her fairy tale, the story is not yet over.

I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.

I Read Something Silly Today…

September 30th, 2009 @ 3:14 pm by Mrs. Parfait

I came across a peculiar article in the September issue of Marie Claire. Its title? The New Trophy Wives: Asian Women.

The author, Ying Chu, asks Asian women who are in relationships with white men, ”Why be a target for headline comparisons to concubines?” She continues, “It’s as though these Western men are hungry for a piece of that mystical Eastern formula … This is a common experience among Asian-American women. They’re dating a white guy, and they may not know if it’s a fetish thing.” Sigh. There’s more.

She cites the marriages of prominent Caucasian men to Asian women, stating, ”But after two or three failed attempts at domestic bliss with women of like background and age, these heavy hitters sought out something different. Something they had likely fetishized.”

I don’t know. Is it okay to assume something like this?

Floral Alternatives: Part Two

September 30th, 2009 @ 2:49 pm by Mrs. Dachshund

As a sequel to my previous post, in which I wrote about paper flowers and shared inspiration, I’ll continue to share my ideas for alternative, DIY flowers… focusing today on flowers made of fabric!

I’m not sure where it was that I saw my first fabric flowers. Etsy, maybe. Those little organza flower hairpins have been popular for quite some time, after all. Anyway, I love the whimsical, DIY feel of colorful fabric flowers!

These colorful blooms made with patterned quilting fabric have so much character! Only a few flowers make a big statement. The sweet little vases play a large part in the role; but with eight months to go, thrifting/eBaying/antiquing them would be easy peasy.

Floral Alternatives: Part Two : wedding crafts decor diy flowers 12 1

The taller arrangement would be lovely on our guestbook table, and I think the smaller vases would make very pretty centerpieces. These would be great projects for any fabric leftover from our napkins.

Mrs. Ramen, Phoenix Age and Occupation: 26, Optometry Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Industrial Designer Engagement Date: January 3, 2009 Wedding Date: December 19, 2009 Venue: Phoenix Art Museum About Me: I'm an SF-born, Seattle-raised girl, transplanted to Phoenix where I'll be getting married, and planning all the way from Orange County where I go to school (yes, it feels as crazy as it sounds). I loooooove Yogurtland, am slightly very obsessed with all things paper, am heavily addicted to wedding blogs, deeply desire a puppy, thoroughly enjoy cooking, cry when I watch (almost all) movies, thrive on solo car-karaoke, can't stop being sarcastic, am neurotic about taking pictures of almost everything I eat before I eat it, and aspire to travel the world. My super-talented fiance and I are attempting to DIY a majority of our massive (~350 guests) "clean & modern, yet romantic, but completely unexpected, with a teeny dash of vintage" wedding, stay within our not-so-massive budget, and somehow get a really luxe (but still fun!) look/feel at the same time. In music terms (since we're both really into music) think Coldplay meets Motown meets Kanye meets Sinatra.

I'm a full believer in the "Life is Short," mantra - and therefore, eat lots of dark chocolate. I'm a Geographer by degree and nerd by choice. I cook to the sound of French and Portuguese music even though I speak neither. I love road trips, camping, hiking, and capturing life through the lens of my camera. About Mrs. Espresso

They come few and far between. Those moments when your family and friends are healthy… happy. When you can see everything in life for the blessing that it is, rather than the job, errand, or line on the To Do list that’s calling. When life is, in its purest form, good.

This was one of those moments.

Table Settings

September 30th, 2009 @ 1:20 pm by Mrs. Frozen Yogurt

I love the long table, and I’ve seen it at several weddings lately and really want to steal the idea. However, our wedding will have round tables, just like a lot of other weddings. There is nothing I can do about this, so I have to let it go, BUT then I stared thinking, ‘wait, the rehearsal has somewhat long tables!’

So my idea has not been crushed. :) Take a look at my inspiration from Sunday Suppers:

It’s been awhile since I wrote about my bouquet-making adventures. In the first installment, I told you about my mock trial run. But a lot has happened since then. Aren’t they fabulous?!? :D
