How Our Flower Girl Picked Her Dress

September 2nd, 2009 @ 3:51 pm by Mrs. Dew Drop

Back in April, I paid a visit to sunny (but decidedly not hypoallergenic) Coppell, Texas. I was there paying a spur of the moment visit to my flower girl Z (and, okay, the rest of her family, too). Z was very anxious to talk to me about what her “little dress” would look like. She thought it should have butterflies on it.

I wasn’t quite sure of my ability to find a flower girl dress with butterflies on it, so I convinced her that petals were just as good. Luckily, this was not too difficult. I just had to show her the dress I was talking about.

This one:

Everything was going my way—cute dress, approval from almost four-year-old, etc., etc.—until I tried to buy the dress. The store didn’t carry it anymore!

And I couldn’t find a dress with turquoise petals anywhere.

Here’s where a less stubborn person would give up and get a different dress. As you may have already guessed, I am not that less stubborn person. I kept looking (and looking, and then of course, I looked some more) until I found a similar dress.

Here’s what it looks like in person:

I like it even more than the first one. I hope Z does too!

How did you decide what your flower girl was going to wear? Did she give you any pointers?

Our girls told us they wanted to look like princesses and wear crinolines. I was happy to indulge their fantasies!

Mine offered to wear her Halloween costume from the year before (she was bride). That coversation started with “So, Aunt Amanda, I’ve been thinking…”

That is never good. :) Gotta love sassy 7-year-olds with a mind of their own!

That’s a super cute little dress! We didn’t have children in our wedding party, but I would love a dress like this if we had.

I love the tulle on the second one! Adorable. My flower girls told me they want to wear “party dresses,” so probably almost anything goes. My only thought so far is that they should have dark colored dresses with bright sashes, because my gals are messy eaters. :)

wow, good job finding a lookalike! How did the prices compare? that’s such a cute dress. We’re not having a flower girl (every baby born in my family since 1990 has been male, no joke), but cute dresses like that make me wish we were!

My flowergirl is wearing that exact same dress, except with orange petals and waist flower. We found it new on ebay for $50!

I know someone’s daughter who is wearing that dress in red this fall! Apparently it gets excellent marks in twirling!

that is so cute! i might actually get it for my own flowergirl! i do have a question: on the website there are 2 blue color choices for the flower and petals — is the picture shown on your post the “aqua blue” or the “sky-blue”?

@completelyrandomsally: That is too funny!

@melodicsighs1: The second one was about $10 cheaper. No complaints from me on that!

@KMSull: That’s great to hear. I was hoping the dress would be good for twirling. :)

@mkds2010: It’s the aqua blue.

@tea: I thought it was pretty cute that she knew what she wanted to wear too. Although I should have realized she would–she’s very opinionated about clothes!

Precious! My flower girl is only 2 1/2 at the moment, so she is growing quite a bit…I am going to have to wait until a few months before the wedding to figure out her dress I think!

great choice. turquoise is an fresh look this year, and if you look in the tulle in the back there is a little opening where you can add more flowers or change the petals to a new color if you want to reuse the dress for another event ;)
