We're young, driven and madly in love. Together we're pursuing our wildest dreams including our biggest undertaking yet, a vintage retrospective wedding filled to the brim with DIY madness. I have an unnatural attraction to cake, a passion for blogging and a love of good design. While I might be an overly obsessive creative with too many ideas and nowhere to put them, Mr Lightning is my biggest fan and I can't wait to make my true love mine.

Keeping It Lighthearted: A Poke at the Wedding Industry : wedding humor Wedbaby Source

I’m interrupting my normal DIY broadcasting to bring you a deliciously wonderful read by UK author, Imogen Edward-Jones.

Wedding Babylon follows on from a series of really great books, many of which I have already read. I stumbled across this new edition a few days ago and have already made some headway through the chapters. In fact, I have been so engrossed in its pages that I’ve been slacking on the DIY front!

However, I have to say that with the wedding fast on my heels, I really needed to get myself out of the seriousness of it all.

This book really hit the spot and even made me giggle out loud quite regularly (Mr Lightning is reading one of the Jeremy Clarkson books right now as well, so it must be quite entertaining to see us both giggling in bed, each with our own amusing pieces of literature.) The book is an insider’s look (with true stories and name changes) at just how ridiculous the road to matrimony can be.

So much has gone wrong this week, and it is enough to get even the most peppy of brides down. But I know the show will still go on, and ultimately that is all that matters. On a positive note, my birdcage veil appears to have survived the South African Postal Service and is waiting patiently to be collected at the mother of all post offices downtown. I’m going to try pick it up first thing in the morning!!

Do you have any great wedding reading recommendations?

I am reading “What No One Tells the Bride,” by Marg Stark. It’s about the transition into “newlywed-hood” and its been reassuring that a lot of what I am feeling is normal. It’s pretty honest that once your married, its not going to be a picnic in the park, but will take work. You have to take some of it with a grain of salt, but it’s nice to hear that I’m not the only one feeling the way I do (as in sometimes, ready to rip my hair out!)

That book looks like it would be pretty funny, I’m definitely going to have to find it now :) I actually can’t think of any wedding related books that I’ve read.

I’d love some other recommendations as well! I love any book that can poke fun at itself…sounds like a good one!

Another great read is “One Perfect Day: The selling of the American Wedding.” Not so funny, but really interesting. I can’t wait to read this new one though. Thanks so much!

Looks like a funny book–maybe a good honeymoon read?
