Mrs. Mouse's Picture
Mrs. Mouse, Austin Age and Occupation: 25, Attorney Fiance's Age and Occupation: 31, Civil Engineer Engagement Date: December 19, 2007 Wedding Date: September 2009 Venue: Barr Mansion About Me: I just graduated from law school and will be taking the bar, getting married, going on a honeymoon with my guy, and then trying to figure out what I'm going to do with the rest of my life. I was born and raised in a small East Texas town, but I'm no country girl! I'm obsessed with British accents, fantasy (including Harry Potter, of course), and classic rock. My fiance and I consider ourselves both music and beer snobs--but every once in awhile we love to hear a crappy band and drink a cheap brew or two. We're planning an eco-friendly, casual, English garden affair for the end of summer, and we can't wait for it to get here!
About Mrs. Mouse

There are so many projects that I’m in the middle of right now that I can’t wait to share with you guys. For now, I’ll let you in on all of my “somethings” that I’ve gathered for the big day.

Not the actual ring, but it looks similar to this.

Something old: One day a few months ago I was at my mom’s house. She was giving me an old tin to possibly use in my wedding, so I started cleaning out all of the stuff in it. I found a delicate little ring with a row of diamonds across the top. My mom had never seen it before, but she assumed it had belonged to her grandmother—my great-grandma. We’re still not sure how old the ring is or what it symbolized, but my mom now wears it every day. I asked if I could borrow it for the wedding, and she happily obliged.

Something new: my kick-ass wedding dress, made by the fabulous Sarah Seven.

Source

Something borrowed: A Nu-bra, from a friend who got married last year and wore it with her wedding dress. TMI? Oh well.

My locket, with the teeniest photo of my dad inside

Something blue: Mrs. Perfume helped me to come up with the idea of replacing the gold chain on my locket with a blue silk string. I ransacked a local craft shop, and the closest thing I could come up with was some sparkly, pale blue embroidery thread.

So I guess I’ve got all my bases covered.

Are you participating in this tradition? What are your “somethings”?

I didn’t do “something borrowed”. Instead I lent a bracelet to one of the bridesmaids and we called it reverse-borrowed and decided that was good enough!

something old: my mom’s original wedding set from 37 years ago!
something new: my veil
something borrowed: my mom’s wedding set
something blue: my shoes and my garter

I might try to come up with something else for my something borrowed so I don’t have to use my mom’s rings for both…

haha I don’t blame you for borrowing the Nu-bra those things are like 80$ and you would likely use it only once

Yes, I did the old/new/borrowed/blue too - my grandmothers ring (a gift from my mom the day of the wedding) / my dress / my girlfriends ring / a vintage brooch from Mrs. Perfume (she saves the day again!)

We’re opting to buck most wedding traditions. I guess we’re just rebels. LOL We really wanted a small, Sunday afternoon, tea party type of wedding, but unfortunately it was VERY hard to come by and very expensive! We ended up settling with a LOT of things. In an act of rebellion (and let’s face it - spite) we decided to eschew as many “traditional- you HAVE to do this” wedding customs as possible. Some traditions are fun, but I don’t feel like they are going to make/break the big day.

Best wishes!

Careful with the Nu-Bra! I wore one (borrowed as well lol) to my senior prom, and all the sweat from dancing made it slide down onto my stomach! TMI, maybe, but it might be worth noting.

Still, I ducked to the bathroom, rinsed it off and stuck it back on. Made for a good (albeit embarrassing) story to tell my date… now my BF!

I want to do this tradition too but haven’t figured everything out. I do know that my “something borrowed” is going to be my grandma’s rosary.

Old: My bouquet was wrapped with the hankie my grandma edged with her beautiful tatting (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatting) and gave me years ago. It’s a tradition in the family.
New: Wedding dress
Borrowed: Mom’s diamond tennis bracelet
Blue: garter

Old - I’ll have the pearls that my mom wore when she got married wrapped around my bouquet and I’ll wear my grandmother’s pearl bracelet
New - My dress
Borrowed - The garter that my mom wore when she got married. It has a little pocket that contains two lucky pennies, one dated 1979 for when she got married and one dated 2009 for me.
Blue - My shoes
