About Mrs. Gloss

Good Stock…

September 3rd, 2009 @ 4:55 pm by Mrs. Gloss

While I’m waiting, sometimes not so patiently, for our wedding photos to be processed by the lovely Erica Lyn, I cannot help think about what I will do with them. Our photography package does not include an album (although we obviously have the option of purchasing one), so I have a number of options to consider. We could do a Blurb/MyPublisher-style album; the quality is decent and the price really cannot be beat. But then I see the professional photographer albums with their really thick, lay flat pages. I !start drooling and think it would all be worth it! ;)

Enter Good Stock.

While they are not cheap, their books are completely swoon-worthy and archival quality. You can even match the fabric spine to your wedding colors! After searching both their website and blog, it seems they will do most anything you can imagine to make your book perfect for you.

Are you going to tackle your own album or let the pros do it for you? Are there any high-quality publishing sites that you’d reccomend if you’re not purchasing your album through your photographer?

That’s a good thing to start thinking about…we don’t have a book as part of our package, either, but I think it’s a worthwhile keepsake =)

I wish I had the $$$ to let the pros do it, but I’ll probably go DIY. I made a book using Blurb once, and I thought it turned out well. Maybe we’ll splurge on a pro album for our one-year anniversary :)

We decided against getting an album with our package (couldn’t afford it and we are both designers). I have used blurb several times (did our guestbook this way) and the quality was pretty great as long as you select premium paper. My big issue with the big designer looking books is that I feel I would always be worried about it getting messed up (because it was so much money). Doing a blurb one I would be less worried (b/c I could always order another one) and they make great Christmas gifts for relatives!

We did our guestbook through blurb and the quality was wonderful. You can check it out here:

This is great information! I’ve been holding off because I’ll be doing DIY but wanted to get pro quality. Would you say that this is a pro quality product?

I went with the professionals… photography was something I really chose not to budget on (and will have to budget on most other things because of it), and I’m hoping it will be worth it! We got one album for ourselves and a smaller parent album for each of our mothers as a gift to them. I just know that if I left it to myself it would never get done and it would look awful…

thanks for sharing! I’ve been looking for something nicer/high quality that blurb for the wedding pics–this just might be it. (we don’t have a photographer album option at ll)

Thanks for sharing those. We have our photos and eventually plan to do our own album, but haven’t really figured out how yet.

We’re going to wait and get an album for the pros on our one year anniversary. I really think they’re worth every penny for the quality and durability you get back.

I have been ordering books from shutterfly and I’m always happy with the quality. I do feel rather limited in layouts sometimes. If you have a Mac, you might try iphoto books. I have ordered several calendars through them and the quality is excellent.

Check out mpix. They make a moderately priced photo book with super thick pages that looks similar to the pros. I haven’t seen any in person. The only thing is that all the pages are matted - just a border around the edges but I’m not sure I like that. But the books are around $100-150. I know a lot of pros use mpix products.

I’ve been holding off on this as well because I’d like to get close to professional quality by DIYing it.

Good Stock has awesome options and I would love to get my albums done through them. We’ll see if it is still in the budget…

I am also trying to figure out a (budget friendly) site I’d like to use. I’ve been looking through the bookstore on Blurb — you can preview the first 15 pages of wedding albums! It’s given me some neat ideas.
