Mrs. Poodle's Picture
Mrs. Poodle, Santiago, Chile/San Bernardino, CA Age and Occupation: 27, Industrial & Web Designer Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Firefighter & Mountain Patrol Engagement Date: February 25, 2009 Wedding Date: January 2010 Venue: Mr. P's Grandparents’ Ranch About Me: I’m a Chilean girl who's crazy about nature and swimming. I enjoy carving, drawing, reading and sewing; I drool over computers, fabric, pretty paper, purple and patterns. To me, chocolate should be one of the seven wonders, right next to lemon pie. I never thought an exchange work experience program was going to change my life forever, but while working in California, I met Mr. Poodle, and ever since my days are better and brighter. We are two goofy souls that, after finding each other, couldn’t help but want to be together forever. It has being a long and sometimes hard road, since we have to deal with such a long distance between us, but we are now facing the last stage of our Fiancé Visa, and soon we will be together. You know the best part? We will be married! So I’ll be blogging from Chile until just a few months before our “green and purple” wedding.
About Mrs. Poodle

The sewing frenzy is ON!

I figure that since I’m asking for your advice on the dress I’ll wear to “make it legal“, I should start on the pending projects I have in the sewing department so I can physically be able to sew my “other” dream dress.

If you remember, I showed you all my MOH’s dress not too long ago. After I posted about it I, realized that I had failed to mention one little detail I was attempting to conquer. I wanted my MOH’s dress to be REVERSIBLE!! how cool would that be? Of course, she was excited about the idea too, as she would have the purple I wanted as one dress, and the purple she picked (a much darker one) on the other side as dress number 2! Here is a little peek of my MOH’s dress and a close-up of the inner fabric color and texture.

{ I really liked the contrast of the different colors and textures of the fabrics }

But now, on to the dress story I wanted to share!

This is Poodle sister! smile017 She is a 15-year-old girly girl, crazy over the Jonas Brothers, and one of my best friends. She means the world to me, but when it comes to designing a dress for her, she can be a pain in the butt. Like any normal teenager, she changes her mind probably every day. Um… OK, I do that too, so I should not complain! LOL

{ Poodle sister and me at her middle school (Educación Básica here) graduation }

Anyway, we probably looked at 50 different dresses so she could get an idea of what she wanted, and in one month she changed her mind 6 times. So even though I knew that she might change her mind again, I started cutting fabric with no turning back. We started with the bottom of her dress. She wanted pockets and a different feel to what I did with the bottom of my MOH’s dress.

My Girls' Dresses - Part 2: BM Sister : wedding bridesmaid dress diy Vestido08 vestido08

{ For the bottom I cut two big circles, folding the fabric and leaving one color 2″ longer }

I sew everything like she wanted and moved on to the top. As usual, I used newspaper to make my pattern and measure it on my sister.

My Girls' Dresses - Part 2: BM Sister : wedding bridesmaid dress diy Vestido09 vestido09

{ I measured and played with the newspaper and tape to shape the desired form }

My Girls' Dresses - Part 2: BM Sister : wedding bridesmaid dress diy Vestido010 vestido010

{ Then I cut the fabrics to the newspaper pattern. I also made a little piece to tie the center with. }

My Girls' Dresses - Part 2: BM Sister : wedding bridesmaid dress diy Vestido011 vestido011

{ I pinned everything in place to sew it easily . On the left you can see the details of the bottom part. }

I sewed everything together really quickly, so by the time Sister Poodle was out of the shower she could not change her mind!

My Girls' Dresses - Part 2: BM Sister : wedding bridesmaid dress diy Vestido012 vestido012

{ Here’s the first fitting. I still needed to sew the details on the front. }

I cut Sister Poodle’s face out of that picture because she was not happy with the way the dress fit her.

A little behind the scenes - While I was figuring out the dress and sewing like a crazy woman, guess who  was on my lap the whole time!?? CURLY! Every time I made him leave, he would wait until I had to sew again and jump to my lap.

My Girls' Dresses - Part 2: BM Sister : wedding bridesmaid dress diy Vestido013 vestido013

{ There’s no way to make him leave when he’s comfortable! hehe }

I finished the front, sewed the straps to the back, and forced her to take her pajamas off to really get a feel for the fit of the dress.

My Girls' Dresses - Part 2: BM Sister : wedding bridesmaid dress diy Vestido014 vestido014

{ Second fitting and FINALLY, a happy face!!! }

After the second fitting, she loved it!! I still need to iron it, but I really like the way it looks. smile017
Happy BM = happy bride!

{ Final dress! Two done, two to go! }

Now the dress is done, but I thought we could spice it up a little bit by adding a sash with some little flowers on the waist. So in order to convince Poodle sister that this idea could work, I had to show her the flowers I wanted to use. Trying not to burn my fingers like I did with my hair flower, I created 4 of these flowers in different sizes.

{Sealing - sewing - ready! }

This is the story of the second dress so far. I still need to convince my sister we can do something else to the dress, but I’m happy with it for today. I got her to like the dress, and I’m happy with that. Mission accomplished!!

I could really use any input or ideas. What else would you add to this dress?

seriously.

you never cease to amaze me with your amazing talent. and you and your sister are utterly gorgeous! and can i add just one more time that you have the cutest pup in the universe?

i don’t know if there’s much to add to the dress, as it already looks fabulous, but a sash or flower belt couldn’t hurt if she wanted more jazzing up =)

Miss Poodle, come teach me your mad sewing skills. Seriously, I am so impressed with your creativity and talent!

What about adding a cool brooch or something in the center of the bust?

Fabulous dress! Love the neckline, and your sister looks great in it. I don’t think it needs anything more. If you’re just dying to make her some kind of accessory, you could make a matching purse, but that’s just if you want to make more! Once she is wearing a little jewelry and some cute shoes, she’ll be dressed to the nines. Nice work!
