No Rehearsal, But…

September 3rd, 2009 @ 11:06 am by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

While we aren’t having a rehearsal for the wedding, it doesn’t mean I’m going to give up the excuse to celebrate. Rehearsal dinner, here I come!

IMG_72601

My parents are graciously throwing us a rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding for the members of our wedding party, as well as for close friends and family. We wish we could invite our out-of-town guests too, but that would mean the whole guest list would be coming to our rehearsal dinner. And it’s just not in the budget.

But just because we’re keeping it small doesn’t mean we’re going posh. Location? Hernando’s Pizza Pub!

At first, I was skeptical. A pizza place, mom?

But then I went to visit, and it is adorable. It looks like a little Swiss chalet and the inside is practically all brick. Except for the ceiling, which is completely ensconced in dollar bills.

I had to taste the pizza to be sure. I lived in Italy and have very high standards when it comes to pizza. (Note: high standards and pizza in the United States don’t usually do well together.)

But it was delicious. Thin homemade crust with fresh mozzarella and mushrooms. I even liked the tomato sauce (when I was a kid I used to pick up the cheese, wipe the tomato sauce off, and put the cheese back on before eating it).

My favorite part about Hernando’s? The beer comes in Ball jars. I can’t think of a better way to drink a Hefeweizen the night before the wedding…

Where are you having your rehearsal dinner? Will it be casual or fancy?

That looks like a super fun place for the rehearsal dinner. We kept ours low key with a party at my sister’s house.

I totally agree with you on the Italy/US pizza divide. Sounds like a great place for a rehearsal dinner.

If you’re in Boulder or Denver for an evening, try out Proto’s Pizzeria. Best pizza I’ve found in the states… and I studied Italian, too, so I know your standards, girl.

That’s awesome! We’re also doing our rehearsal dinner at a pizza place, and the beer comes in these gigantic schooners. Should be a good time :)

We’re having our rehearsal dinner in a pub, so it’s pretty casual. I just couldn’t see us having it in a fine dining restaurant, it’d be more formal than our wedding!

Very cute! Are you still calling it a “rehearsal dinner”? Ours will be very casual too- all our bridal party is immediate family, and there are a BUNCH of kiddies, so anything fancy would be silly! Best wishes!

I loved our rehearsal dinner venue. It was maybe my favorite part of the entire wedding experience after the actual getting married part. We did it on the lake at this beautiful house.

There is NOTHING wrong with eating your pizza that way, Miss Cowboy Boot! I STILL do!

Or we just order it without sauce from the get-go. My Maids are convinced that my FI is the one for me, since they’ve never known anyone else to not like pizza sauce and neither him or I ate it before we got together…LOL.

I love the casual rehearsal dinner! We will be having a bbq at my parent’s house with Jerk Chicken and other Caribbean fare - and reggae music to top it off!

Sounds delicious!! I’m not sure yet how ours will go, my future in laws will be footing the bill on this part, so it’s kind of up to them!

That sounds fun! Who doesnt like pizza?
I dont know where we are having it yet - I want it to be a Mexican fiesta at this place locally. Or the sushi lounge. My fiances parents, who may be throwing it, are not so well versed in different types of food. So we shall see…

What a cute rehearsal dinner place! P.S. I’m pretty picky about my pizza too, although I never lived in Italy, I just hate icky crust and bad sauce ;-)

Right now we’re planning a really fun/casual RD at a famous bar/pub in Indianapolis, the Slippery noodle. It would be just for wedding party/immediate fam, but within walking distance of the hotel for OOT guests so they can come join later.

I’m insnaely jealous of your pizza place. I too am a pizza snob (growing up in Jersey and studying aborad in sicily will do that to you) and wish there were good pizza places here!

We’re not doing a rehearsal, but we are having pre-wedding festivities the night before.
We’re hosting the out-of-towners in our hotel suite for pizza and beer, then walking from the hotel to a cute little christmas festival that just happens to take place the day before the wedding. All guests are invited to join us at the festival to get to know eachother beforehand.

Excellent! I love pizza (I am from Chicago and we grow up on great pizza) So, I like you, living in Italy (soo lucky) am a bit critical since until recently LA’s pizza pretty much sucked. Now it is a trendy restaurant thing as are hamburgers. Fine with me.
Casual only means more fun, in my book. :)

Mmmmm pizza! I like that it will be a casual and fun time for you! We are going to have to have a rehearsal brunch, since someone else is using our venue the night before our wedding…so hopefully for dinner that night we will be able to plan a fun, laid back dinner for everyone to hang out!
