Movin’ on Up!

September 7th, 2009 @ 2:41 pm by Mrs. Star

Sorry to have been a little less active around the hive for the past week or so! Mr. Star and I have been moving apartments and it has taken quite the toll on us, especially with just over a month until the wedding! I definitely lifted some things on moving day that I shouldn’t have (like one end of the air conditioner and some large IKEA pieces) and totally pulled something in my back, too!

We had intended to move in the spring of next year, once wedding fever had died down and things were less crazy, but we have been having a dispute with our landlord over some serious maintenance issues (don’t get me started on how long we’ve been forced to sleep on the couch because of it) and we got him to agree to let us out of the lease before things escalated.

Lucky for us, we got a seriously spiffy new place! We’ve moved from a fourth-floor walkup with a view of the alley, to this:

And did I mention it has five closets (up from ONE!), level floors, more square footage, an ice maker, and a brand new kitchen and bathroom?? Asmuch as I loved our first place, two out of the four kitchen drawers didn’t open. Period.

Even though it was unintentional, we’ve ended up getting what is pretty much a newlywed home! It’s really exciting to get a new place right as we’re getting married because it feels like even more of a fresh start to a whole new life.

As I’ve been griping about having to move so close to the wedding (hello, stress!), many of the bees have consoled me with the fact that it would have been much worse to move AFTER the wedding and have to move alllll the wedding gifts, my dress, and so on. I see the logic in that argument, especially after how much stuff we accumulated just from my bridal shower. However, we did have to move 8 plastic bins and 6 or 7 big boxes full of centerpieces, ceremony décor, my veils, the mask-favors, and more, so it kind of feels like a wash at this point.

What do you think – if you moved around your wedding, do you think it was easier to move before the wedding, or after?  How did your new married home feel different from your old “dating” home?

So glad to have you back, Star! The new place looks great. I’m sure it’s going to look fabulous once you’re all moved in. Maybe you can give another video tour on BeeTV one night? :)

Congrats! The view looks amazing!

FH and I are moving about four or five months before the wedding. We figured it would be better to settle in BEFORE all the hustle and bustle of the wedding. And I think part of it was having room for wedding gifts when they start coming in too!

Congrats on the move! I just moved from NYC to the Netherlands to be with my Dutch boyfriend (now my fiance) and there are so many things that I want to change about our apartment!

I think it is great to move BEFORE the wedding. We got engaged right before we moved in together and its great to be able to use the engagement gifts in our new place. To think that these guys would have to sit in boxes for months until we got to a new place would be heartbreaking!

Gorgeous! We recently bought a house and moved in July. It was earlier enough for us that we hadn’t started accumulating wedding things yet really, but remodeling and buying a house while also planning a wedding is stressful!

nice upgrade! i have no experience on this but i would think it’d be nice to move beforehand. sure there is the added stress of organizing a move along with wedding planning, but at least you’ll get the chance to acclimate and get used your new digs and when you get back from the honeymoon, you can relax into your new place and not have to worry about packing and moving!

great place! i’m so happy for you two.

we moved into our new place, in a completely new city, on june 27th and we got married on august 29th. even though the move was stressful, as was having to shlep all of our wedding stuff from new jersey to our new place in dc back to new jersey for the wedding, i’m glad we moved when we did. all of our gifts have been delivered to our new place, and it would have been a pain to have to move them too.

We are moving the end of this month. And even though it is six months out the searching for a new place (we also had issues with landlord and I refused to stay) and now packing and planning the move it has taken a lot of my focus off of the wedding. When I realized how much I have been putting off I freaked. So I cannot even imagine one month before and all the things you have going on! I hope you had lots of good friends to help you with the move!

What a cool apartment! We lived together beforehand, so we were lucky not to have to deal with moving stress around the time of the wedding. Good luck with everything!

Congrats on the new home! We’re doing very much the same. We’re moving to Europe one week exactly after the wedding and right now, as we’re packing everything up together, it really does feel like we’re beginning our new life together and will have our first new home together. Living together has been lovely and it’s even nicer that we’re doing all of the preparations for our new home together too.

NOT going to lie, but my FI and I have had similar issues with our leasing office and maintenance. We have had to sleep on the couch numerous times because of it, but are not yet in a place to move again (although we are thisclose to doing it). LOVE the view in your new place!
