All Natural Raw Honey Favors

September 8th, 2009 @ 9:23 am by Mrs. Mouse

One week before the wedding my MOH, my mom, and I decided to tackle the honey favors. It was a total assembly line, and the process went very smoothly.

My mom filled the test tubes with honey and corked them.

MOH Deniz dipped the corked tubes into a bowl of beeswax that we melted on the stove using the double-boiler method. The beeswax acted as a the perfect, natural seal for these test tubes.

She then left the beeswax to cool by sticking dipped the test tubes into a container filled with rice, for stability.

I was the last step in the assembly process—I cut out twine and used it to tie the tags I made a few weeks ago onto the test tubes.

Here’s a close-up of the finished product.

Are you going with homemade edible favors for your wedding? What are some logistics brides should consider?

I am about 70% sure we’re going with edible favors. There is a small flee mart in the town that were we are getting married. One vendor has the most delicious roasted almonds. So, I am thinking we can give roasted almonds in a little bag to our guests.

how cute! your guests will love them. i was wondering how you made the tags–did you print several of them on larger paper and trim them down, or…? thanks!

Those look awesome!!! I really like edible favors, because then it’s not something that is just going to get left behind, thrown out, or collect dust once they get home.

so cool. does the tag tell guests it’s honey? I’m not sure I would figure that out right away if there isn’t a bee or hive or some sort of hint but maybe in person, it is clear.

I love honey, but I have a question. Did you sterilize the test tubes before putting the honey in them? Do you have to do this step first or can you just wash them?

Hmmmm…makes me want a cup of tea now!

we are doing test tube favors too - but we are filling them with reeses pieces!

Can I ask where you bought your test tubes? I couldn’t find any inexpensive glass ones, so I had to stick with plastic.

Those are so cute, we’re doing favors that are ‘of food’ but aren’t food.
