Remember way back when? When I had lofty plans for re-creating Lauren Alane’s cutie-patootie felted birds cake topper?

Consider this project DONE, suckah!

Please forgive the crappy photography! I just discovered photobooth :) - and no tengo tiempo!

It took me a couple of tries, but I finally finished a pair of birdies I was happy with!

Mr. Bear Cub is obviously the taller red birdie! He always wears red, plus he’s a ginger ;) (I love me some red hair - can’t wait for the cute ginger babies one day!). My little birdie is actually a very light lavender color! Ha! I totally <3 the lavender.

Special thanks to Miss Poodle for supplying me with the correct wire for their legs! No hablo the Spanish well enough to find the right crafting knick-knacks in my town. ;)

I’ve still got enough time to dress up the bridal birdie a bit! What do you think, should I go for a little hair flower? Maybe an über-tiny, über-cute bow in her “hair”?

How did you put your cake topper on your cake? I was thinking of just sticking the wire legs into the buttercream!

So cute!! And you should totally add a hair flower to the bridal birdie. That would be adorable. :)

these are SO CUTE! a hair accessory would be adorable : )

Unless you’re sticking the majority of of leg length into the cake make sure you test out your birdies in a buttercream-iced cake before the wedding to ensure that they won’t topple over! buttercream can be tricky.

I love them! Definitely affix them to a small base… we stuck our birdies directly into the frosting, and they didn’t stand up that well… the boy bird ended up getting frosting all over himself!

A little flower would be so cute–

Also, you may want to try to fix a straight piece of wire to the bottom of each bird foot to anchor it into the top layer of the cake– you may end up with fallen birds otherwise.

Or fix them to a ‘branch’ that could hold them into place on top of the cake (maybe a chocolate pirouette cookie)–

So freakin cute! I wanted to do something like these soo bad but DF was having no part of it, lol. I agree with a tiny hairbow or accessory and second mcnetn3’s idea of making a type of branch to hold them in place. Congrats!

very very cute! Hairflower, bow, veil, necklace … something dressy would be cute for the girl birdie! And yes, a base would be a VERY good idea for these little birdies!

Those are soo cute! I think a little veil would be adorable!

What about hot gluing (or some other way of attaching) the birds to a stick or two to put on the cake? One stick might not balance well, maybe making a very slim X with two sticks would provide a more solid base.

These are really cute!!! You did an amazing job.

For those of you who want birds on your cake but aren’t nearly as crafty, Michael’s has ceramic birds that are really cute and/or pretty, depending on which you pick, for a couple of dollars.
