Cover Up That Bear Cub Bum!

September 9th, 2009 @ 12:42 pm by Mrs. Bear Cub

Bear Cubs are a bit shy - this little Bear Cub doesn’t know the first thing about lingerie!

It doesn’t help that certain other Bear Cubs also don’t know a thing about lingerie - a Ms Bear Cub, in particular, needs to find “sexay” bum-cover-uppers STAT!

Luckily, in this forest of Oregon called “Stumptown” (the trees became stumps? Oh bother. At least there’s good coffee honey.) there seems to be a preponderance of cutesy lingerie stores!

Oh Baby
has gotten great reviews on Yelp!

Plus it’s located within walking distance of another Yelp crowd-pleaser, Lille Boutique:

Aerie by American Eagle is quite cute, too - and definitely nicer on the wallet! The thing that’s confusing this little Bear Cub so much is that her mister is really more of a sports bra kind of guy Bear Cub.

Patagonia definitely has some cute sports bras:

But $35 for a sports bra? And $20 for undies? Hmmm… it’s all so confusing! (Plus that cute green is all sold out in the undies! Pooh.)

Do you ladies know of some relatively inexpensive unmentionables of the sporty variety?

While I’m in Portland next week (NEXT WEEK!!!! :) ), I’ll try to hit up these two local lingerie shops! The only thing I don’t know is if I should go alone or not. Do you think it’s better to go lingerie shopping with a gal pal, or solo?

Have you looked at Athleta or Title 9? I don’t know if they are as cute as what you are looking for but they have really nice stuff and sometimes really good sales.

I’m a solo lingerie shopper, because I know what hubs likes best (unless he accompanies me, which is rare.
I think it’s more fun to shop for sweet things for your new husband by yourself.

I bought pretty simple things for the most part because Mr. LL isn’t a frill type of boy either.

either one is fine. in fact, at proper lingerie stores [i say this as if i go...my experience has been at vicky's and nordy's] the salesperson has come in to check the look and whatnot, make sure the bra fits like it’s supposed to. so in case you’re not comfy with the idea of flashing yourself in front of a trusted gal pal, that’s an option!

You could also do freezer paper on some inexpensive Fruit of the Loom Sports Bras. I think you can get a three pack for 10.00 at Walmart (not the most romantic store) :-).

Then you could put whatever you wanted on them and freezer paper stenciling is super easy and fun. Plus then they would be totally personalized.

I usually go by myself, but moreso because I take forever to decide on what I want. When I am seriously shopping, I want to make sure that no one is waiting on me who I don’t mind making wait. That adds up to my mom and my husband, so if I am going shopping for things to surprise my husband with, I go solo.

@joanlindsay: haha at first I thought you meant fruit roll-ups, put in the freezer in the shape of a sports bra!
hmmm…. maybe that would be a good idea! haha

I tend to go by myself since I’m not going to model it for a gal pal anyway….and I second Athleta & Title 9. You’d have time to have it shipped to Portland so it would be there ready for you to try on when you get there.

I LOVE Old Navy undies! They cover your whole booty and are super comfy :)
If you’re looking for something a little more fun (but covers the whole booty) I’d try Honeydew. They sell them @ Nordstrom, but I’ve found them @ Nordstrom Rack and Lohmans too!

I was just talking about this with the Mr. the other day, because I was telling his Mom to pass along that I want no lingerie at my showers. I’m a sports bra and cotton panties girl myself and I was asking him if he would even like the frilly stuff and he said he just wanted the little tiny boy shorts, when asked about a top he just said ‘no thanks’. But I have to say those patagonia ones are adorable. Target has some C9 sports bras in cute colors, but I don’t know about their undies, they certainly wouldn’t be a matching set.

I like going shopping for that stuff alone, but it’s fun with friends! If you’re feeling unsure and uncomfortable, maybe you should bring one friend or sister/FSIL.

I have seen that Federicks of Hollywood has some nice sales online! Like… $10 for a sheer babydoll number? Now of course the sizes are hit or miss… but that sound preetty reasonable for some sheer fabric that doesn’t stay on for too long ;)

@Miss Moonbeam: HAHA, “no thanks”, too funny!
from what i hear, it seems like most guys don’t understand pretty lingerie, bc they just like the sexy stuff (or nothing at all)…
but buy some pretty girlie stuff for yourself if you like it, i’m sure he’ll appreciate it!

Have you heard of Backcountry.com or SteepandCheap.com? Backcountry is the mother site of a whole bunch of others (incl. SteepandCheap) and they have great deals on all sorts of outdoor gear, including undies. Their customer service is awesome (they helped me find a jacket last season when I was being super-picky and canvassed all of their other child sites looking for me) and their selection can’t be beat.
