Mrs. Ramen's Picture
Mrs. Ramen, Phoenix Age and Occupation: 26, Optometry Student Fiance's Age and Occupation: 24, Industrial Designer Engagement Date: January 3, 2009 Wedding Date: December 19, 2009 Venue: Phoenix Art Museum About Me: I'm an SF-born, Seattle-raised girl, transplanted to Phoenix where I'll be getting married, and planning all the way from Orange County where I go to school (yes, it feels as crazy as it sounds). I loooooove Yogurtland, am slightly very obsessed with all things paper, am heavily addicted to wedding blogs, deeply desire a puppy, thoroughly enjoy cooking, cry when I watch (almost all) movies, thrive on solo car-karaoke, can't stop being sarcastic, am neurotic about taking pictures of almost everything I eat before I eat it, and aspire to travel the world. My super-talented fiance and I are attempting to DIY a majority of our massive (~350 guests) "clean & modern, yet romantic, but completely unexpected, with a teeny dash of vintage" wedding, stay within our not-so-massive budget, and somehow get a really luxe (but still fun!) look/feel at the same time. In music terms (since we're both really into music) think Coldplay meets Motown meets Kanye meets Sinatra.

Creative Proposals

I’m a biter.

Creative Proposals : wedding diy Nail Bi

Yes. It’s the truth. Somewhere on Weddingbee, many many moons ago, I saw a DIY craft that one of the bees did to ask her friends to be her bridesmaids (I forget who). I thought it was a GRRREAT idea. So I did it, too. With my own little spin, of course. I bought the accordion book kits (~$5) from Paper Source (AKA, a girl’s best friend, AKA my mothership), and some pretty paper from the Paper Studio in Tempe, and got to work!

Creative Proposals : wedding diy Mar09

I pretty much followed the directions from PS, but you can do this on your own, too - you just need your accordion folded paper, and 2 cardboard/chipboard covers that are slightly larger than the folded paper. You cut out the pretty paper a bit larger than the cover boards, and then use special paper paste to glue them to the covers, taking care to fold the corners well (like wrapping a gift - the directions are really confusing on this part), and get all the air bubbles out.

My supplies… (this is the journal kit from PS, using the same technique)

I highly recommend using a bone folder to get really nice, flat creases and tight corners

I then attached a ribbon to the back panel, and then used the same paste to affix the covers to the pages. I chose a different ribbon for each girl, depending on her favorite colors.

Next, I set to work putting pictures and little decorations onto each page, outlining my relationship with each girl and our friendship adventures. On the last 1-2 pages, I wrote a little note telling them how much I valued their friendship and support in my life and relationship, and asked them to be my ladies! (Of course, I had excitedly asked them over the phone/in person much earlier - yup, that’s me, always jumping the gun.) I then personalized the covers with their names…

Ta-da! My finished products (please excuse my craft-desk-chaos…)

I felt a HUUUGE sense of accomplishment once these were done. The hardest part was filling the books. You could probably knock out at least 3 books on a Saturday.

I love it!! Now I’m thinking I should do something more formal, like you did! This looks like a fun project and I’m a huge scrapper too!

Oooh those are pretty! My ladies are all the “we assume we’re bridesmaids, no need to ask because you don’t have a choice” type, but since I am big into papercrafting I made them all home made cards “officially” asking (and giving their titles- matron of honor, maid of honor, bridesmaid). I also made them all “bridesmaid” tee shirts.

I believe Mrs. Cherry Blossom did the scrapbook thing for her BMs. It was before she became Miss Cherry Blossom. Here’s the link:

Those are very cute!! I remember seeing the original post awhile ago too and loved it then as well.
I was like you and jumped the gun asking them right away….so I figured it would be a little silly to ask them “formally” too.

But I have been thinking about doing this as part of their gifts as a thank you.

I did little cards to ask my girls, but I was thinking about doing a similar book as a little “after wedding thank-you” with photos from my showers, bachelorette party, and wedding. Silly idea or worth the time?

I didn’t know people did these cute things until after I asked my maids. I’ll just have to give them supercute gifts. Those are great, btw.

I love them! I made scrapbooks for my bridesmaids, but wish I knew of papersource and their accordian books before making them. They loved them. I made a couple pages with pictures of us in the past, then a page saying what they mean to me and why I want them to be my bms and then asked them, then I made a list of top ten reasons to be my bridesmaid and made it unique for each girl, then I added a page with photos from our engagement party and left blank pages to fill in for all of the upcoming wedding events.

I’m actually using the accordian books for soemthign else, so this post was super helpful on covering the chip boards.
