His Ring

September 12th, 2009 @ 1:20 pm by Mrs. Cowboy Boot

At first, I was wary. Was I really going to order a ring from iweddingband.com? The name itself made the website sound cheesy. But after searching around online for better prices, I never found them. I also scoured the internet for reviews of the site, and all were glowing. So, I bit the bullet.

Enter: Mr. Cowboy Boot’s 18k yellow gold, 5 mm, half-round wedding band. It arrived in the mail a few days ago (about a week after ordering it) and it’s lovely. The best part? It was $254, and Mr. CB loves it.

Mr. CB is a simple guy. His father has a similar ring, and I think that was his inspiration. In fact, he is so connected to his father that Mr. CB has a tattoo of his father’s handprint on his back, left shoulder. His dad, a potter, made a glaze of his hand so the tattoo has all of the fine lines, like tiny rivers, that weather his palm.

So, while Mr. CB is inspired by his father, I was inspired by Mrs. Lightning. If you remember, she surprised Mr. Lightning with an inscription on his ring.

As I posted before, our wedding falls on the night of the Harvest Moon. We only found this out after picking our first dance song: Harvest Moon, by Neil Young.

What did I put inside Mr. CB’s ring? Our wedding date, and the lyrics from our song: “On this harvest moon”.

I mentioned to Mr. CB that his ring was on its way in the mail and that I had gotten a surprise engraving. He was not excited. He said that he probably wouldn’t like it, and that it reminded him of a cheesy promise ring or friendship band.

But, then, the ring arrived. He probably thought I was going to write something cheesy like “A + I 4ever”. Lucky for him, my creative side was on the upswing the day I ordered the ring.

And, as it turns out, he loves it.

Where did you get your ring? Did you test out an unexpectedly awesome website? If so, share!

My FI found his ring on eBay — as he had surprised me with my engagement ring, he laughed when he finally found his wedding band because, he revealed, “finding one for me was a lot harder than yours!” haha…

What a creative and meaningful inscription, Ms. CB! I’m happy Mr. CB came around…it’s funny he was wary at first.

We have the same inscription on our wedding bands that my grandparents have on theirs. I’m hoping the tradition will continue with our kids. We’ll see. ;)

Aww that’s sad he said he wouldn’t like your inscription! But I’m glad it turned out otherwise!!

And thanks for the “extra boost of review” for iweddingband.com. Will check it out.

That’s awesome. Did you give him a little “love tap” when he responded not so kindly to the engraving the first time? haha. I woulda! Glad he liked it in the end!

He got my rings from Ebay, and I ordered his ring from http://www.limogesjewelry.com He got a nice titanium ring (and they engrave all their rings for free!). His ring in total was about $26.00! He wanted Titanium, so hey! I engraved:
Semper Amemus 5.8.2010

That means “Forever Love” in Latin, and that’s our wedding date. I’m keeping the inscription a secret until the wedding day, and I might just burst. I hate not being able to tell him everything!

Forget the ring, let’s see the tattoo!
We got both the cheap fill-in and the real one in Vegas. How cliche is that? He wanted a very thin one, so no engraving was possible. But much to my delight he wears it on the correct hand which he did not do in the years past pre-leslie period. :)
Bands are fairly standard, so you were safe with a site — I have even seen nice ones at the Grove in one of those carts!
I adore my engagement ring, despite no romantic backstory. But once in a blue harvest ;) moon, I imagine fireworks..

Is that dark spot a reflection or part of the ring? My fiance just saw it and liked it a lot.

I will admit being wary of ordering ours online, for some reason I felt the need to see it, feel it, and test it out before I purchased. I just checked it out and they do have some wonderful rings though!

@Megan B: It’s just the reflection in the ring. The ring is a simple gold band. You can also get it in a more matte finish which I prefer, but Mr. CB likes the polished finish.
