Rain, Rain, Come and Stay?

September 14th, 2009 @ 11:55 am by Mrs. Chick

There’s something so annoying to me about sunsets. I’m not sure if it’s the aggressive way the sun beams into your eyes when you’re trying to drive, or the amount of Houston pollen and smog it seems to lift up, but something about it always makes me pray for rain. Don’t get me wrong, I do NOT want it to rain on our outdoor wedding day, (You hear that, rain gods? NO RAIN on our wedding day!) but I wouldn’t mind a couple of decorations to simulate rain. I love the two decorations below because rain and clouds are a bit dark in nature, but the way they look are so cute and sweet!

From the Etsy shop of Timeless Paper:

Rain, Rain, Come and Stay? : wedding decor 12.jpg

These are $1.00 each. I think I would like them better with just one cloud. What do you think?

Rain, Rain, Come and Stay? : wedding decor 21.jpg

From the Etsy shop of le Petit Papillon. A bit pricey at $20, but surely these can’t be that hard to make? We’ll see.

I can envision these little mobiles hanging off of the sides of a tent. If we don’t end up using a tent, where could I put these?

isn’t the first one, on the glass, is supposed to represent orchids — not clouds?

@sleepylittlesailor: i agree, looks more floral than a cloud.

how big is that cloud with raindrops? For $20, I would also look at trying to DIY it =)

@sleepylittlesailor: OHHH! Yes I see now. I’m retarded. But if I DIY them I can make them into clouds…

Miss Chick- If you’re thinking about DIYing those clouds, I have TONS of white felt that I’ll never be able to use. Two yards of it, I think, but it’s really wide.

I’d be happy to send it to you if you’d like : )

@Jennarationnext: Hi there! That is so SO generous of you! I’m not sure if I’m making these yet but if I do I will definitely take you up on your offer! What were you making with the felt, if I may ask?

@Miss Chick: I was going to make an Eve costume (I was trying to talk FI into us going as Wall-E and Eve for halloween)… But I’m going with a different plan now : )

I had to laugh when I read this! Ever since I moved to Houston a few years ago I’ve had a strict “no driving west between 5pm and 6pm” policy! The way the roads are set up it’s impossible to see a thing during sunset! Houston has given me a new appreciation for rain.

i think the felt pieces would be pretty simple to recreate. at least, by some standards. haha. i think that’d make a cute mobile. i swear i saw something similar around here on the ‘bee.

@Honeybird: Yes! So glad someone else feels the same way! I really think it’s a Houston thing. I used to live in Tucson and I remember really loving sunsets! Damn you Houston pollution! :P

The paper clouds would definitely look better with only one cloud … and the felt ones would be WAY easy to replicate … if you don’t use a tent … could you maybe incorporate them into your centerpieces? Or maybe string them across the ceiling? Or make a garland of them against the wall?

Hanging from trees would be cute, too, if that was an option.

You gave me the best idea for our name cards! I was at a loss as to what to do at our tables… I just drafted my own version of the airplane found in TimelessPapers shop. She has some incredible ideas- I think the shrimp cocktail placecard was ingenious!

They could easily hang in some trees. So pretty.

Hi. The top photo is my creation from my Etsy shop. It is an Orchid, not a cloud.
